Chapter 20

Quinn and Belle understood right away and left me with Nixon. Though Quinn was a bit reluctant. She was giving Nixon the stinky eyes. He only brushed it off with a smile before bringing me to a quieter place.

“I admire the fact that you have loyal friends.” He was starting a conversation to obviously gain my attention but I remained silent and just followed where he wanted to talk. “I noticed Quinn giving a look not to mess with you.” He forced a chuckle.

I stopped. He followed suit. “If you want to talk here, the floor is yours.”

“Kur-”

“Kura.” I stiffened, hearing the new voice. I slowly whirled around to the source.

Shit.

There he was. In all his glory. Scowling.

“You know someday that eyebrow will be the bridge of your modern world.” I teased sarcastically.

“What the fuck are you wearing?” He was stomping his way towards me with a look that says I am dead. Ah, I just bring out the filthy side of his mouth.

He reached for my arm with a strong grip and pulled me towards him. “I don’t appreciate other men looking at your breasts.” He then peeks at my back. “And your back.”

“Let her go. You’re hurting her.” I rolled my eyes.

“Stay out of this.” He warned through gritted teeth. His eyes narrowed as he assessed him.

Without any warning, he dragged me away. I didn’t have time to see Nixon’s reaction or even say anything. Nile was hell bent on pulling me away.

He let me go when we arrived at an empty room. He slammed the door shut obviously in rage. I twisted my wrist left and right to numb the pain.

“You know that hurt.” I stated rather nonchalantly.

“Who was that man?” His hands rested in hips in frustration. “Don’t even lie to me. I know how he looks at you.”

I sighed before forcing a grin. “He’s the past and you’re the present. That’s what matters.” I answered in a high pitched tone sarcastically which apparently gave away the meaning. He didn’t look happy with my answer though.

“What does it matter really? We’re over.”

“It’s not over unless he stops looking at you like that.” He exclaimed, taking a step forward. His rage was always one step ahead. If not, more. “Who was he? Tell me clearly. Spell every fucking letter, Kunoe. Don’t make me do something that you will regret.”

“You’re always like that. Always threatening me when you don’t get what you want.”

His arm suddenly snaked around my waist, pulling me towards me. I could feel the warmth in his hand pressed against my back. “I hate what you’re wearing. I hate that other men could see your body. I hate that you’re ravishing tonight and I’m not the only one who sees and thinks of it.”

I smirked sardonically. “How would you know? Did you talk about it with other men?” His hold tightened even more. Our chests pressed against each other, squeezing my two globes.

“I heard them talking about you. I heard every adjective they thought of you. Those wings that I thought I was the only one who could see.” His hand that laid on my back, rubbed my wings with affection. His other hand travelled to my face, pressing his thumb to my lips, sliding down towards my neck. My hooded eyes stared at him in awe. “Don’t leave my side tonight. Never. Ever.”

He brought down his lips to meet mine. Drunk from his confession, I kissed him slowly and passionately. I feel his hand cupping my breast. “These breasts are mine.” Squeezing the globe erotically.

“You are-”

The door suddenly opened. I jumped in surprise and pushed him away immediately. He staggered but he was still full of composure.

"Son…" A woman's voice pulled me out from my daze. We both turned to the source simultaneously.

The woman who looked to be in her fifties, with long dark hair and slanted brown eyes, was watching me intently. Her Asian descent was very obvious. Her red lips pressed in a thin line. There was a tall man behind her who seemed to have the same age with her. He was old but his face and build was handsome. With greying hair and grey eyes, nose carved perfectly like his strong build. His face was familiar and looked to be… like the older version of him.

I glanced towards Nile who only stood still.

"Son, what are you still doing here?" He voiced out. "The party is already in full swing. This is the best time to propose a toast." I stilled awkwardly when the older woman kept her gaze at me. Her eyes reminded me of Nile a little.

Before Nile spoke, the older man’s eyes took a glance at me. I stilled even more.

“Of course, dad.” Obviously, he is the father and this woman is his mother.

“Who’s this woman you’re with, Nile?” His father took a few steps forward to take a good look at me. His grey eyes were scrutinizing me. His wife did the same. It was silent for a while before anyone spoke.

Our mouths opened at the same time to speak but I managed to beat Nile to it.

“Hi. I’m Kura Kunoe, one of the directors of Runner Studios who handled your company’s event.” I offered my hand for a handshake. Fortunately, Nile’s father reached for my hand and shook it. His scrutiny turned into one with an impressed look. I guess it’s the fact that no one can deny that Runner Studios handled the event splendidly. For the short amount of time I was here, it has been quite a talk of the night.

“Nicholai Veselov, Nile’s father and this is my beautiful wife, Sara.”

“A pleasure to meet one of Quinn’s partners.” Sara said while shaking my hand. “I’ve heard so much about you from her. Honestly, it sounded like you’re the reason who made her company more successful if you just hear her talk about you.”

My eyes widened, surprised at her revelation. Quinn actually said that? I’ve been idle for more than two years now and laid my ass off with big events. I’ve been sitting behind the desk and monitoring productions. This event was like my comeback.

“Thank you.” She still had a straight face which made me doubt if she really was impressed with me. Her eyes were still studying me and I’ve never felt so caged right now. It was as if I was afraid to disappoint her. Does she normally give off air like this?

“Son, it’s time to go.” Nicholai urged his son. Nile turned to me and offered his hand.

“Nile.” His mom suddenly called before I was able to take his hand. “I’d like a moment with Miss Kunoe.” Nile shifted his attention between me and his mother before nodding and leaving with his father.

The two finally left, leaving the door slammed shut. Sara sauntered towards me. For a woman, she was pretty tall. It may be the difference in our heels but we’re pretty much at the same height.

“What is your relationship with my son?”
