Chapter 37

“What?!” I bellowed. “What do you mean cancelled?”

“Do you expect us to continue the wedding without you? What’s more that you’re in the hands of a psycho.” Quinn exclaimed.

“Shit.” I palmed my head in guilt. “I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.”

“What? Why would it be your fault? You did nothing wrong, Kura. In fact, you saved us by risking your life with that freak. Tyler and I agreed to cancel the wedding because we won’t be happy if you’re not there present at the biggest event in both of our lives.”

“Quinn has been crazy worried for you.” Tyler added. “I don’t think it would be a great wedding if we carried on. I was worried for you too, you know.”

I was touched at their confession and it made me release a small smile. “What about your family? Won’t they get agitated with your decision?”

Quinn shook her head. “We explained it to them and they understood. Dad wanted to help look for you but we decided not to let them interfere. We didn’t want to put their lives in danger.”

I released a relieved sigh. “Good.” I smiled at them. “Thank you. So have you decided for the next date of your wedding?”

The couple looked at each other before nodding and smiled. “Yes.” Quinn was the one who answered. “Three weeks from now. And… since you weren’t able to attend the dress fitting, Belle and I did the honor of choosing the dress for you.” She chirped excitedly.

“You were out for two days.” Belle chirped in. “At that span of time, they planned for the next date and Quinn and I made sure you have the dress as well.”

Colton looked at them almost in disbelief but he shook his head in amusement and spoke. “Everyone seemed to trust this crazy dude to keep you safe so they were positive enough to proceed with the wedding planning.” He nodded towards Nile. The person in question was, as always, scowling at him.

Everyone was seated in the two sofas placed between the room while he was sitting behind the desk. He was crossing his arms while listening to our conversation.

I resisted a smile. “I’m sure they do.”

It didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable and safe again. It felt like I was finally back. Not like earlier when I woke up, I still felt that burden that remained from Jacob Moore. As much as I want to resist the temptation of drowning in that fear and trauma he caused, I have to be strong and fight it or else everyone will worry. It already cost my best friend’s happiness.

Nile didn’t stay long with us during our little gathering. After all, he was still busy despite taking leave from work. He occasionally went out to answer calls until he didn’t come back so the rest of the hour spent with the group without him.

Since Nile was still absent, I walked them to their cars. I hugged and kissed each of them before they went inside. They all reminded me to stay here and keep safe since Jacob was still out there. Colton remained for a couple of minutes before following them. He was going to ride with Quinn and Tyler back to Runner Studios.

“Take care of yourself, Rose.” He pats my head like a brother to his sister. The smile on his face was small and held with little sadness. “I don’t want to lose you too.”

His arms extend wide to welcome me in a hug. I almost received his hug but he suddenly withdrew his hands in surrender, eyes rolled in sarcasm. “Alright, alright, you possessive freak.” Hen then steps back.

I whirled around behind and saw the culprit in question. He was crossing his arms with a brooding look like a fucking guard dog. My guard dog.

“Ugh.” I rolled my eyes.

“Later, Rose.” I heard Colton yelled behind me as he ran towards Tyler’s car. Their engines roared as both cars exited the property.

“Really?” I raised a brow. “He’s my childhood friend, Nile.”

“I did nothing.” I glared. “I was only watching from here.”

“You’re overbearing.” As I started to walk but didn’t stop before him. I intend to go straight to the bedroom. The sun was setting so I’m starting to feel tired.

“I am not!” He growled in denial while following me.

After dinner, I had nothing to do and Nile was working on his study. There’s a giant flat screen that was hanging on the wall of his bedroom. Actually it flips out when pressed a button on a remote and it flips back in and becomes a shelf with books and frames with pictures. So high tech. He is after all the owner of Veselov Industries so his entire house was pretty high tech as well.

I showered and changed- again, with Nile’s clothes. The fucker still didn’t get me my own clothes. If he wants me to wear his own clothes, I will surely wear different shirts every hour of the day just to annoy the hell out of him.

After preparing for bed- cause I know for sure I will doze off while watching a movie, I start searching randomly in netflix. I wasn’t fond of romance movies. They make me sleepy so I chose an action-adventure movie.

At first, I thought it was an animated movie but then it ended almost half an hour and there was a next episode choice. I realized it was a series. It was about one of Zeus’ sons who had a twin but the other with a different father.

The story was amazing and I got hooked up til episode four and fell asleep at five. The series wasn’t to blame though. I was just really tired. There’s still a bit of pain left from that night especially from my foot but not to the point where I can hardly walk.

Amidst my deep sleep, I felt an arm wrapped around my waist. Warmth spread all over my back, a leg tangled over mine. This managed to wake me up a bit but I let it be and continue to drift off.

But then his hand started to roam around my body. His hand went inside my shirt. It travelled from my belly towards the curves of my breasts. The other arm snaked underneath my body and wrapped around my waist tightly, pressing my body against his erasing any given space.

His lips started to skim my neck and shoulder. My eyes opened immediately with a roll, mouth opened with an o, almost releasing a loud moan. He then started to assault my neck with fervent kisses which I know for sure will leave a mark.

After kneading and tweaking each peak, his hand went down and inserted to his boxers which now became my shorts. I realized I haven’t been wearing any underwear since he’d been ignoring my requests for clothes. It was easier for him to access my sex.

And then a memory of someone woke me up from the trance. “Nile, wait. Stop.”
