Chapter 40

“Colton, watch out!” He automatically swerved the car away from the other. We both panted in fear and relief when he managed to evade the car safely.

“What the fuck, Colton! Holy shit!” I smack his arm with extreme force. I was fucking scared for a second. I thought I’m gonna die again.

“Hey, that hurts.” He whined like a boy.

“This car is fucking new, Colton, and you almost cause us an accident. You are a terrible driver!”

“What?” He laughs. “Hey, I was trying to cherish the moment you’re trying to make me feel. You shouldn’t be acting like that while I’m driving. I can’t focus.”

“So it’s my fault, dickhead?” I smacked him again.

“Hey! Stop it! I’m driving. Don’t want a repeat. And stop making an argument. I’m not Nile.” He turned to me for a small second when I wasn’t saying anything and looked at me a couple of times.

“Why are you blushing?” He frowned. “If you miss him that much, we can go back.”

“Shut up!” I hit his arm again, relishing his cry of pain.

After our unexpected excapade, we went straight to Runner Studios. We were right by the door of Quinn’s office when we heard arguing inside. Colton and I looked at each other and shrugged. I didn’t knock and just barged right in like I usually do.

My eyes widened when I saw Nixon. It was him who Quinn was having an argument with. The two froze when they saw me. Nixon had these desperate hopeful eyes. But I just felt anger towards him.

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

“Kura.”

I ignored him and directed my attention towards Quinn. “What is he doing here?”

She sighs. “He keeps begging me to see you. I guess now his prayers are answered.” She then frowns. “What are you doing out, Kura? I thought it’s pretty clear that you are not allowed to step foot outside.” She narrows her eyes at Colton who was right now responsible of me.

Nixon walks towards me in hesitation. He seemed to ignore everything when he saw me. His eyes were steady and had purpose that were only directed to me.

I guess I should give him a chance to talk to me. From the looks of it, he knew what happened to me. He looked really worried.

I sighed inwardly. Maybe I should give him a chance and talk to him. After all, he did worry for me. There was a coffee shop nearby the company so I took him there. I didn’t want to go far because of fear that Jacob will see me. At least here, a lot of people are familiar with me. We were their loyal customers since it was a coffee shop that was nearest to Runner Studios.

Colton was watching from another table afar, guarding me like a hawk. I think he’s taking his role seriously. He might become my bodyguard if he acts like that. Nevertheless, I truly appreciate his effort for me. I don’t want to experience being far away from them with no choice of meeting them ever again. My freedom was very limited and I was trapped inside that huge house. Something that I don’t want to experience like ever.

“Kura… are you… alright now?” He asked with hesitation.

I nodded as I leaned my elbows on the table. “I assume they told you about it and you joined the search.”

“I was worried but they avoided telling me who kidnapped you.”

I wasn’t really kidnapped. I went with him willingly but that doesn’t matter. Nixon shouldn’t care too much. But that’s the thing, I still care for him and it kinda hurts seeing him like this. His concern… and his hope for us to have a chance to get back together.

“Listen, Nixon. I am now safe and fine. That’s all that matters. I don’t want you to meddle anymore in my life.” His sad face still moved my heart but I have to do this. “We’re over.”

Fuck. I looked away when his eyes began to get glassy. His handsome face was red and sadness painted his visage.

“Kura, please. I still love you.” He grabs my hands in desperation, clasping it in between his. “I changed for you… so we could be together. Please… give us a chance.” He begged.

I resisted my emotion from getting out of my face. I need to be cold to him so he will let me go. “Nixon, I really don’t love you anymore.”

I tried to pull back my hands but he gripped his hold tighter. “No, don’t say that. That’s not true. I know you still have feelings for me. It may not be the same in the past but I know it’s still there.” He’s right. Deep down, there is still that something. It’s little but it’s there. “You could fall in love with me again. Please, Kura.” But I don’t want it to grow anymore. I want it to disappear… completely. “I will do anything for you. I will leave everything for you.”

Off guarded, I snatched my hands away. He was shocked at the sudden action but his attention was quick to divert to my scowling face.

“Stop there.” I scoffed, raising my hand with an open palm. “Do you think I would actually tolerate what you said or what you will do? I know what you meant by leaving everything, Nixon. Your position as the president, your family. I think you don’t know me at all. None of those things will make me happy. The consequences of that will only worsen a lot of things for us.”

He bowed his head in shame. “I’m sorry. It’s just… when I mentioned my family being against our relationship, you suddenly got mad and back out. I figured… you didn’t want that.”

“Yes, I didn’t want that but I didn’t want you to leave everything for me either. I’d rather give up on us than you giving up on your flesh and blood.” His eyes widened, surprised at my words. “I guess I just don’t love you enough. Perhaps you should find someone who deserves your love and really loves you back. I don’t think a half baked one will suit you. So please, give up and move on, Nixon, not for me but for your self.”

I didn’t want to hear what he’s gonna say so I got up right after my speech. Nixon quickly stood and grabbed my arm to stop me. “Kura.” I stood frozen when he aimed for a hug.

However, it didn’t reach me. Fuck was my reaction when Nixon fell on the floor hard. His head whipped swiftly to the side, blood dripping off his mouth. My eyes widened in shock. I was speechless. My eyes travelled towards the perpetrator who punched the living daylight out of my ex.

Fucking hell.
