Chapter 57
“I’m afraid I have to ban you two from coming here.”
Colton said as I sat down on his kitchen island. He was preparing breakfast and was almost done. Kura was still upstairs, taking a shower.
“Did you know that you two were so quiet last night that I thought you'd gone home?” He said sarcastically.
I admit I was embarrassed. We weren’t really discreet last night especially when Kura screams really really loudly.
“Strange though. I thought there was an earthquake last night.” He added.
I covered my face with my hands seemingly rubbing them but actually I was extremely embarrassed.
Shit.
I just can’t control myself around that woman. I think my morals are thrown straight through the window whenever I’m with her.
Is this what she meant about some character development when actually I feel like I’m already losing my sanity?
“Morning.”
“Oh, here comes the partner in crime.” Colton didn’t hesitate to throw another remark for us.
“You’re a jerk.” Kura commented back as she sat down on the stool beside me. She scooched closer towards me and removed my hands from my face and kissed my cheek.
“Love, you’re losing your touch.”
She glared at him instantly. “Colton, don’t start. I really have a bad headache right now. Don’t make me throw remarks about your sorry ass.”
He raised his hands in surrender. “Anyways... “ He set the final plate down and sat right across us. “I’m glad you two are okay now. Rose was pretty sulky when we left yesterday.” I hid a smile but Kura was glaring at him immensely.
I placed my arm around her waist as we started eating. My phone rang in the middle of breakfast. It was work reminding me that we have a board meeting today. My dad is here too joining us so I have to be present. I had to leave Kura here. I couldn’t let her come with me knowing she has problems to resolve here. I’ll come here straight away once the meeting is done.
“Are you sure it’s okay to leave her here… with no bodyguards or something?” Colton asked in concern.
We were standing at his door while Kura was waiting for me standing with her arms crossed against my car. I was wearing his clothes for the meantime so I have to go home first and change before going to the company.
“I trust you to take care of her.”
He didn’t hide his surprise. “Damn. I think I’m gonna cry.” He waved his hand to his eyes as if to drive away the tears starting to fall. But then he started to look at me seriously. “What about that psycho?”
“He’s been taken care of.”
He raised a brow. “Why didn’t you tell us?”
“It’s a long story. I don’t think it’s my place to tell you.” He knitted his eyebrows in a frown. I turned to look at Kura. He followed my sight.
“Something bad happened, huh? And she didn’t want to let us know so we won't get worried.” I didn’t answer. “Typical of her.”
“I gotta go. Take care of her, alright?” Once I got his nod, I walked towards my car where Kura was patiently waiting. As soon as I was near her, she opened her arms for a hug.
“I already miss you.” I muttered against her ear as I embraced her tightly. I made sure to inhale her scent, locking it in my senses.
She chuckled. “I do have the effect.”
As soon as we let go, I gave her a long kiss. She was the one who could hardly let go, deepening it as the seconds go by.
“Kura… stop.” I said reluctantly. I need to control myself or else I’d be tempted to stay and make love to her until the break of dawn.
She placed her head on my chest, seemingly hiding her face.
“I’ll come back once the meeting is done.”
She raises her head. Her face was pink. She looked like she was wearing makeup. She looked so beautiful. It’s testing my control.
“Don’t be ridiculous. I know you have a lot of work to do. You’ve been putting it off like a procrastinator.” She teased.
“Those are one of the things that are only second to you. You should know by now that you always come first.”
She was silent while staring at me. I didn’t know what was in her mind.
“I…” She trailed. She gulped before she continued to speak. “I’ll wait for you.”
We kissed one more time before I finally left.

Kura
“Can I say something?” Colton asked while leaning against the door of his entrance.
I stopped in front of him while rolling my eyes, expecting another crazy comment from him.
“I’m going to say this again. I’ve never seen you like this- like ever.” I was surprised at his serious comment. He’d been teasing us almost nonstop during breakfast.
“Is that a bad or a good thing?”
He grins. “It’s the greatest thing that ever happened- ow!” He yelped as I smacked his arm. “You are seriously the most violent person I’ve ever met.”
I raised my brows when I saw him suddenly looking solemn. “What?”
“Your stepmother and I talked yesterday.” I looked away out of instinct. “I figured if you didn’t want to talk to her, I should. I didn’t mean to pry, Rose, just because of random curiosity. I wanted to know for you.”
“I know.” I sighed. “And I understand. I know you always do things for me.” I pouted while looking down at the ground.
Somehow when he pries on my life, I never get angry. I’m like an open book to him. He is as well to me. I don’t remember the last time we fought over something like minding our own business.
We help each other. That’s because we treated each other as more than best friends. He is my brother and I’m his sister. If Hana was here, we would’ve been a trio. But that was something inevitable. We’ll never know what’s ahead of us.
I always hope and pray that regardless of having a partner in life or not, he’s happy. And that’s all that matters.
Colton explained to me that indeed my father wasn’t doing well. He had been sent to the hospital a couple of times this year. It was either a heart attack or hypertension. It was because of stress and insomnia. Silena told him that he wishes to see me and she hoped that I’ll come to visit even if it’s only for him.
She vaguely mentioned that he’s been thinking about me before his health went from bad to worse. It sounded like karma though. He literally kicked me out and now he’s thinking about me.
“She said that he saw you in a magazine and since then he’s been wanting to see you.”
“Oh, that shit again.” I grumbled. It was the same with that bastard. I shouldn’t have allowed them to publish my pictures.
I sighed before speaking. My mind had now decided. “I’ll come see Alexander later.”
Colton was surprised with my answer. “Do you want me to come with you? Wait- I’ll come with you. Nile’s going to skin me alive if I leave you.”
“No. It’s fine. I want to do this on my own.”
“Rose-”
I shook my head. “I want to have a one-on-one with my father, Colton. I think this… ends now.”
He looked at me apprehensively. “What about…”
“It’s alright. If it’s to ease your mind, I’m going to turn on my GPS so you could track me. If you feel that something’s wrong, you know what to do.” I said as I playfully smacked his arm.
He gave me a small smile as he nodded.
