Jacob and Dana?!
How often do snakes meet? Rachel wondered. And grudgingly she admitted that Jacob looked as good as ever and Dana glowed under his gaze yet she couldn’t shake the anger of betrayal. Jacob and Dana.
Thankfully they hadn’t seen her yet so she hurriedly look away only to plant her face in Nate’s suit. Her makeup left a stain on the black material.
“God, I’m so sorry.”
He was carefully wiping the dusting of her powder off. He cast her a side glance.
“I just saw my husband,” she confessed. The night was about to get worse with the both of them here. Her fingers trembled as she helped him clean the suit and just then a flash went off.
“Rachel Rivers is your divorce finalized yet?”
Rachel started to hide her face from the pesky reporter in a pink flowery gown. Nate pulled her even closer and glared at the woman.
“You should ask Jacob Henderson over there too, shouldn’t you?” he growled. The woman’s eyes sparkled with interest as she scanned the rooftop and saw Jacob and Dana posing for a camera. At that moment Jacob looked up and locked eyes with Rachel who couldn’t look away fast enough.
“Fuck he’s seen me.” She held on to Nate tighter. Where was Larry anyway? He was supposed to be guiding her in the right direction. She had her small camera ready in her bag, she had her notepad and pen, what she needed were her courage and a drink. She was suddenly getting the urge to slip down that alcohol-induced path again.
Nate’s hand moved to her shoulders. “Excuse me I hate to leave you at a time like this but I have to go.”
“W-wait…” Rachel panicked. Jacob was making his way toward her. Dana had noticed her too. “Let me come with you.”
“You can’t,” he replied harshly. She looked up at him, his expression was strained. “Don’t use me as a shield, Rachel, if your ex-husband is an asshole you tell him so.” He bent to kiss her shoulder. “Find a seat I’ll be with you shortly.” Then he winked. “I still have the remote.”
And just like that he left her cold and alone ready to face two nemeses. She watched him go off to the other side greeting people as he walked. Then he stopped in front of a suited burly man with a bald head, spoke in low tones to him, and pointed towards her. The man nodded and glanced at her. Was that his security? It never occurred to her but it made sense that as a young billionaire, he would have detailed security blending in with the shadows to keep him safe.
No time to think now. Jacob and Dana were only a few feet away.
“Rachel?”
It was Jacob who spoke first.
Rachel drew in a breath to steel her nerves. Then she turned and smiled.
“Oh…you.”
He laughed. “You look…sexy,” he said, his eyes perusing her boldly.
Her skin crawled. “I know that. You still haven’t served me the divorce papers. What’s keeping you so long?” she tried to sound bold and unbothered.
“Hm,” his eyes hadn’t left her body. He was bold and annoying and she felt naked with his eyes undressing her like that. “Maybe I might reconsider.”
“Over my dead body!”
“You don’t mean that…”
“Actually,” Dana butt in glaring at Jacob. He smiled down at her like the slippery, deceitful sonofabitch he was. “He will be serving the papers soon.”
Rachel turned her gaze to her as if she was just seeing her for the first time. “Oh, you’re with Dana. I didn’t see YOU there. I didn’t know you were into men with limp dicks and silver tongues. How long have you been together?”
“Huh…”
“Six months now.”
Six months! Way before she caught him with Gabby which meant the idiot had been cheating on her for so long and she knew nothing about it.
Dana saw her reaction to the news and smiled even wider. She looked different like she had a few face jobs done that weren’t quite healing. Rachel swallowed back her envy – no not envy, she couldn’t be jealous of a snake. She was angry at them, angry at Jacob more for lying to her and deceiving her for 4 years. Wasted years.
“And what about Gabby, I presume you know about Jacob’s little affair with her which the both of you used to my disadvantage, tarnishing my image and lying like the little cowards you are?!” her voice was beginning to rise with her anger. A few people were beginning to stare and Dana was already looking uncomfortable. But Jacob on the other hand still believed the world was at his feet with that smug look in his eyes.
“That was a small fluke in character, nothing money couldn’t solve. Your money of course, but if you would just stop this childish charade of yours and this…thing you have with Nate Madden of all people, I can take you back.”
Both she and Dana gasped at the effrontery. “Excuse me?” Rachel said finally. "Over my dead body and as for Nate, what I have with Nate is none of your business. As yours isn't mine," she cut Dana a mean eye.
“Jacob we need to go, I think you’ve had enough to drink,” Dana suggested, her face red with embarrassment. Her hand was firm in Jacob’s and she tried to pull him away but he wouldn’t budge. He released her for a moment to come close to Rachel and his voice dropped.
“What are you doing with Nate Madden?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“I think it is, you’re my wife after all.”
Rachel took a step back. There was a look in his eyes so uncharacteristic of him that scared her. At just that moment a slight vibration set off inside her.
Nate.
Right now?!
The pulse was low, warming her pussy. She squeezed her legs together hoping it would stop but the intensity increased slightly. Her fingers clawed beside her, her nails dug into her bag as she tried to regain control of herself.
Jacob saw the look in her eyes and misinterpreted it. He smirked. “You never could resist me could you?”
“Jacob that’s enough.” Dana tugged him back. His hands went around her shoulders and she leaned against him rewarding Rachel with a smug look. “Stop joking around with her or she might believe you actually want her back.”
“I wasn’t…”
“Shut up, that’s enough,” she interrupted him. “And as for you Rachel, you had it all and I had to have it too. Sorry it had to end this way. And be careful, men like Nate Madden don’t like used…”
“Miss Rivers,” a deep firm voice said behind Rachel. She looked back and recognized the burly security man Nate had been talking to. “Come with me, please.” He took her arm and led her away after shooting sharp glares at Jacob and Dana.
Rachel could have kissed him for the interruption. Nate setting off the vibrator inside her had taken her courage to speak, all she could do was try not to roll her eyes back as her pussy walls quivered. Thankfully the pulsing stopped. Why is he doing this?
“Thank you,” she whispered to the man.
He nodded with a surprisingly sweet smile. “Mr. Madden’s chief security. You won’t see me around very often but I will be seeing a lot of you. My name is James.”
“Thank you, James.”
“It’s my duty. Mr. Madden has prepared a seat for you.”
He took her through the crowd of people still talking and drinking waiting for the first display of the new fashion lines. On one side cameras of different sizes were set up to capture the clothes to be displayed for various magazines.
“If you don’t mind, James, I am supposed to take some pictures and interview some of the designers for my articles.”
“No problem, Miss. I’ll be watching you.”
Nothing creepy, Rachel thought. She had thought Nate would prepare a front seat but was caught by surprise when James led her to a private seat at the back with another chair reserved for Larry. She couldn’t even see the stage from where she sat.
“Are you sure this is the seat Nate kept for me?”
“Positive ma’am.”
