Kiara
"Why are you pacing around? Sit." Maria's voice jarred me from my trance.
"I have to pace around Maria. I can't sit. I feel like if I sit even for a second, I won't be able to think." I held my hands on my hips.
I sighed and raised my hands to fan my face as I felt heat from nowhere engulf me. When I walked in, the office was as cold as fuck, but every corner now seemed to be burning hot.
Where was I going to go?" I asked myself as I still paced around, walked to the window, and overlooked the garden where Alpha Maseno seemed like he was convincing Sony about something.
I wanted to run to Sony because he was the only person who seemed like he would help me in this situation. "Yes, I'll definitely talk to him. After all, he's the only person Alpha Maseno listens to." I said to myself.
"Maria, why are you talking to yourself? Come and sit, please." Maria sighed at her desk.
"I am thinking Maria." I turned to face her. "I can't give birth, so that means I won't be able to fulfill the end of my bargain. Alpha Maseno will throw me out the very second he finds out about this. I have to find a place to go."
"And who said you couldn't meet the end of your bargain?" She asked for my shock while taking off the pair of reading glasses she was wearing and kept then inside their navy blue case.
She shoved her hand in her blue jeans pockets and walked to me. She leaned against the wall on her left side, crossing her left leg over the other.
Pulling her hands from her pockets, she crossed them under her breasts and looked at me, waiting for my response.
"But you seemed worried just now. The way you looked at me, it's like you were pitying me." I told her.
"I don't know what you are talking about." She shrugged and then turned to follow my gaze. Alpha Maseno and Beta Sony seemed like they were fighting. Maseno grabbed his hand, but Sony yanked it away.
"Don't they seem strange?" Maria asked from my side.
"I don't know, and honestly, I don't care." I responded, letting my own worries occupy me.
"You are perfectly healthy, and we will start this process on your next period. When is it?" Maria asked while going back to her chair.
I turned to look at her. "I am healthy?" I asked, and she nodded. "But, oh my God, will I get to keep my end of the bargain?" I asked in disbelief.
She nodded. "Well, how are we going to do this?" I asked, and she shrugged. After some time, she said, "I'll go and give the good news to Alpha Maseno first." She carried her maroon notebook.
When she reached the door, I ran to grab her wrist. "Are we okay, Maria?" I asked her.
"Mhh," she hummed. I wasn't convinced, though. "If I have done or said something you didn't like, just tell me." I pressed on with the conversation.
"You haven't, Maria; now let me." She pulled her hand from mine.
I looked as Maria walked away from me and headed to the garden where Alpha Maseno and Sony were sitting. It seemed like they had settled whatever conflict they were having because they were no longer arguing.
"Please look back, please look back." I chanted as my gaze returned to Maria's disappearing figure.
Usually, she would turn to look at me and flash a smile, but today she didn't.
"Did I say something bad?" I asked myself while biting my nails. We were okay, and then she changed. I watched her through the window, and I saw her handing over the maroon notebook she was holding to Alpha Maseno and then explaining something to him.
He nodded as a satisfied smirk curled on his lips. I went back to the bed and laid on my back as I waited for Maria. The door was pushed open, and I sprung from the bed, thinking it was her.
"Are you expecting someone?" The person.
"I am not?" I responded as I stepped backwards to the bed.
"Really? Just now when I walked in you looked happy. You were even ready to jump to whoever was walking in but frowned when you realized it was me." He grinned.
"I said I wasn't expecting anyone. And yes, I was coming to open the door not to jump on whoever was walking in. I frowned after realizing you were already in." I responded and then bit my inner cheeks.
Why was I explaining myself to him? It's not like he's the alpha or something.
"More lies." The figure chuckled. "Anyways, the only reason why I am here is because I want to know why you are lying to everyone and saying that you forget your memories. What are you hiding?" He asked.
"I am not comfortable talking about this, Dr. Kedeva, but once I am, I will tell you. Not only you but everyone else." I said this while swinging my legs on the bed.
"I hope the day comes." He smirked while sitting on the chair. "How did your check-up go? Can you have a kid?' He then asked.
"How can I respond to that? You, of all people, know this is confidential. It's between a patient and a doctor." I raised my brow at him.
"Of course I know. But don't forget, I am a doctor too." He smirked.
"Yes, you might be a doctor, but not my doctor." I said this while sitting upright. I saw him opening his mouth as if wanting to say something, but he never got to express what was in his head because the clinic door was pushed open and Maria walked in, followed by Alpha Maseno.
"I heard the process will start in a week's time." He said this after asking Dr. Kedeva to leave.
"Yes Alpha." I nodded while starting at my feet.
"Good. You need to take care of yourself. And yes, I'll arrange a personal chef for you and a new set of clothes since your body will undergo changes once this is done. You'll have a bodyguard as well, and Maria will always be by your side." He told me, and his gaze stuck on my face.
I nodded. "I don't need any bodyguards, Alpha Maseno. I am always in the house." I reminded him.
"I know, but still. Just in case." He responded. "If you need anything, I'll be in my office, or you can send Maria to me." He said this and turned to walk out of the office.
"And yes," he turned, releasing the door bolt and dropping his hands on his side.
"I know you have a life beyond this, but I don't want to see you roaming around with your boyfriend or whatever. Don't have sex with him too because I don't want people to spread rumors. So, tell him not to get any closer to you until after nine months."
"Wait, I don't have a boyfriend." I called out at him, but he was already gone.
"He doesn't think I have a boyfriend, does he?" I turned to Maria to see if she had any clue about what Alpha Maseno was talking about, but she shrugged.
I sighed. "Maria, what's wrong with you today? Are you finally bored with me? This is not your usual self. You are always cheeky and smiley, but today you seem different."
"Is there anything you are hiding from me, Maria?" She asked. My heart skipped a beat.
"Why? Do you think there is something I am hiding from you?" I asked her.
"You are the one to respond to that. Is there anything you are hiding from me?" She asked again now through gritted teeth, as if she were angry.
"No, there is nothing I am hiding, Maria. Why would you think so?" I asked her while swallowing the painful lump that formed in my throat.
I felt really bad lying to her, but there was no way I was going to admit that I hadn't forgotten my memories. I know Maria to be a righteous person, as she is always against lies.
If I were to tell her the truth, she'd ask me to tell Alpha Maseno. Maseno is already aware of whom I was running from, and if he comes to know that I haven't forgotten my memories, he'll want to know the reason why I ran away from Benna.
Telling him the reason why I was running away from him will reveal more of my secrets. My own dark secrets were worse compared to Alpha Benna's.
"Well, if you are not hiding anything, it's alright. Just go back to your room and get some rest. Make sure you keep yourself well because the process needs to find you as healthy as fuck." She dismissed me from her clinic.
I put my flip-flops on and walked to my room. I could hear my heart drumming wildly on my chest. I was having a bad feeling from inside.
I passed through Beta Sony's office to see if he was free, but I found him with Alpha Maseno, probably discussing the kingdom's issues. I went to my room, telling myself that after half an hour I'd ask him to take me out for a cup of ice cream.
"Maria," someone called me. I sprung out of bed, startled. I had thought I had closed the door behind me.
"Doctor Kedeva." I furrowed my brows at his lack of manners. What if he had found me naked?
"Pardon my manners, but we need to talk, Kiara." He grinned as a way of telling me that he had figured out my real name. That left me worried—what if he found out much more of my dark secrets?
"I am busy, Dr. Kedeva. Can't we talk later?" I asked him politely, trying to hide the irritation pressing in my voice.
"Does Alpha Maseno know what you mean to Alpha Benna?" He asked instead.
I sighed. "I don't know, and honestly, I don't care. It's not like I want anything to do with Alpha Benna anyway." I said this while slipping under my warm bedsheets.
"I know you don't want anything to do with Benna, and that's why you are here. But what if he knows that this is your little hideout? Or what if Alpha Maseno knows what you mean to him and what you actually are?" He gasped while holding his mouth.
He was trying to scare me.
"Well, it would be bad. But he doesn't know, does he?" I smirked at him.
"But someone knows. And if this person knows something, it doesn't take long before Alpha Maseno knows." He came to sit on my bed.
"I suppose this person is you. And I'm wondering. If you know who I really am already, why don't you go and tell him? Or are you perhaps afraid that your little secret will be revealed?" I smiled at him.
"What secret? I don't keep secrets, unlike you." He rolled his eyes, but I didn't miss the panic pressing into his voice.
"Well then, go ahead and tell him who I am. Don't forget to tell him what I mean to Alpha Benna as well." I told him while turning to face the other side of the wall.
I heard him clicking, and then standing from the bed. He walked to the bedside table and grabbed the file I had left there and perused through it.
He chuckled and then scoffed.
"Can't believe you agreed to this." He said in disbelief but I ignored him. After going through everything I had kept there he silently walked out of my room after mumbling a good night to me.
After I was sure he was gone, I went to the door and locked it from inside. "Should I tell Alpha Maseno who doctor Kedeva is really is?" I thought while sitting on the bed.
I knew if he did he wouldn't believe me that easily. If I were to give him the only proof I had I will end up revealing my own identity as well.
I know that I have nothing to do with that identity because my mother made sure I wasn't associated with anything to do with it but will Alpha Maseno believe me?
I hope Dr. Kedeva won't rant me out." I thought inwardly.
