Kiara
After breakfast, I went to Dr. Maria's office. I had been dying to know why she wanted to see me after such a long time; thus, my long and lean legs took me to her office in just a minute.
I didn't knock. I just barged in because I knew she wouldn't have any problem with it, but to my surprise, she was nowhere to be found. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and made a phone call to her, but it was never received.
I left so many messages asking her if she had changed her mind because I was late when she wanted me to her office, but they were never answered, even though it clearly showed that they were read.
Letting out a deep breath, I paced around, sitting on the couch, eating the juicy apples on the table, and watching some movies on my phone, but she still never arrived.
"Doesn't she have friends? She must be out hanging with them. There is no need to work your brain out thinking about this." My wolf, Raika, said this from the back of my head.
I nodded and said, "Right, friends." I walked out of her office, closing the door behind me, and made my way toward Dr. Kedeva's office. They sat together sometimes, holding their meetings and discussing stuff about medical devices, which I had no idea about.
The walk to Doctor Kedeva's office wasn't as quick as the one I took toward Maria's. My feet felt heavy, and I had to drag myself over there. My heart had never accepted that man. Chills run down my spine whenever I see him, and it was that weird smile of his that I found more chilling.
Up until now, although he was Alpha Benna's little spy, he hasn't done anything bad to me, but I still feel fear gripping me whenever he is around me. I have tried so many times to look at him in a positive way and believe that he can't harm me, but I can't deny my heart, or can I? It's my heart that wants me to be super cautious around him; it's my heart that has always urged me to run away from him, and I can't refuse it.
I knocked at the door and waited for permission to get in. The wait seemed like forever. He was so silent—no rustling of papers or whacking of files on the table—and I almost spun around and walked back to my room, afraid that I might interrupt an important meeting.
Maria is already mad at me for something I have no idea of, and I didn't wish to fuel her anger. I knew how much she despised getting interrupted and that, at this moment, I couldn't afford to do that. "It's because of the meeting; that's why she hasn't responded to my text messages or answered my calls back." I thought as I spun around to go back.
“Come in.“ Doctor Kedeva's deep voice, which always froze my innards and made my legs wobble in fear, filled the air. Strange! It was always Maria who answered the door, even if it was Doctor Kedeva's office.
Slowly, I pushed open the door, my heart pounding in my chest. The room was dimly lit, with a faint smell of antiseptic hanging in the air. Doctor Kedeva sat behind his desk, his piercing gaze fixed on me. I swallowed hard, trying to steady my nerves before speaking.
“Can I help you with anything, Maria?“ He asked when I hesitated to say whatever had brought me into his office. I heard his voice from afar, though, because my eyes were darting around the office, scanning and hoping to see a sight of Maria, but there was no sign of her, only the empty chair across from Doctor Kedeva.
I snapped back into reality when I realized something.
Weird! He didn't call me by my real name, nor did he have that mischievous glitter in his eyes, which he always had when he saw me. My heart trembled slightly as I began to suspect that something was amiss. Perhaps this wasn't the same Doctor Kedeva I knew, or maybe Maria had told him something that changed his demeanor towards me.
"Did he tell Maria that I haven't forgotten any memories and that I have been lying?" I asked my wolf, who scoffed.
"If he has, what does it have to do with him calling you Maria? He would have called you Kiara instead." My wolf's response only deepened my confusion. It seemed that there was more to this situation than met the eye. I pondered over the possibilities, and a sudden realization struck me: perhaps there was another reason behind Doctor Kedeva's peculiar behavior, something entirely unrelated to Maria or my supposed lies.
"Maria, can I help you with something?" His voice jarred me from my thoughts. I composed myself, took a deep breath, and nodded. “I am looking for Dr. Maria."
“She might be at his office," he responded, tore his gaze away from me, and returned his gaze to his laptop.
My brows unconsciously narrowed at his strange behavior. No teasing, no threatening, just getting straight to the response! That was unlike the doctor, Kedeva, I knew. It was no secret at all; something was eating him up.
"Are you okay, doctor Kedeva?" I found myself concerned for him. I noticed woryy etching on his face clearly that there was truly something bothering him up.
He shifted uncomfortably in his chair and looked up at me, a nervous smile replacing the worry on his face. "I am okay, Maria. Since when did you start caring about me?"
“Well," I shruggled, "let's say just now. I couldn't help but notice your discomfort, and that's why I asked.“ I forced a smile on my face and continued, "But if you are okay, I will take your leave, doctor Kedeva.“ I smiled again and walked out of his office.
I walked around looking for Beta Sony since I couldn't see Maria anywhere. The last time I saw Sony and hung out with him was... Oh, my god, I didn't realize that it was that long. So long that I couldn't recall when.
I hurried down the hallway to the library because that was where he liked staying. The whole place was silent, as if no one was left in.
“Weird.“ I muttered, shook the bad feeling off me, and opened the library door to step in. The library was always nosy because it wasn't only the people from the pack who came in to read but students too. Libraries were supposed to be silent, but this one was the opposite. People often came there to catch up with their friends rather than read and do research.
“Sony.“ I called, but all I could get back was the echo of my own voice. “I should go and look for the librarian.“ I thought, stepped into the library, and skipped down the aisle towards the librarian's office. Yes, this librarian didn't have a desk, but a whole soundproof office with a bed, chairs, and all the essentials he would need to make himself feel at home.
My eyes scanned as I skipped by, but Sony wasn't anywhere around the shelves and tables reading, so I assumed he might be there at the libabarin's because, after all, they were buddies.
I stood to take a breath because it was a long way to the office. The library was so huge that if you were to randomly walk in there without the librarian to show you the way, you may end up going round and round for a day or two until you reach the exit.
I was so aware of it, though, thanks to Sony, who made sure that I marked every way in that huge library. After catching my breath, I ran to the door and knocked.
“Is there anyone in?“ I asked when the dead silence still welcomed me. A feeling like I was being watched washed over me. I twirled around when I felt a presence behind me, but I found none.
The hairs at the back of my neck stood, causing me to swallow hard and look around, fear gripping me like a second skin.
“Hello. Anyone there?“ I asked and knocked again, hoping that someone might respond. A bird squeaked from the ceiling, and because I was caught off guard, I screamed, tripped on my leg, and fell on my rear end.
“He..llo.“ My voice broke and beads of sweat formed on my forehead when I saw a shadow-like figure moving around.
I quickly rose and moved backwards, silently so as not to alert the shadow figure, which seemed to be backing me.
My heart thumped wildly, the sweat forming on my forehead dripping and clouding my eyes. I palmed my mouth so as not to release those scared whimpers that were stiffening in my throat.
“Kiara. Kiara.“ A whispered sound echoed all over the place. Tears, which I had been blinking away, found themselves down my cheeks.
“Kiara. Kiara.“ The whispers increased. The shadow figure, which I thought was backing me, started to move forward. I twirled around and did what I did best. Run.
More shadows came from nowhere, blocking my path and trying to catch me. Goosebumps filled my skin, and my legs wobbled with fear, but I didn't allow the fear to weigh me down.
“We have been through much worse than this, and we finally escaped. These can't defeat us too.“ My wolf did what she did best. To encourage me and propel me forward.
I kicked off the shoes off my legs and started taking the many aisle-like pathways in the library, which I was sure the shadows had no idea of. More darted in the walls, coming from the tiny space in the ceiling and making the entire library seem like it was set on black smoke.
The bird that squeaked earlier was indicating to me that the library wasn't a safe place, but I failed to understand it.
Because the whole library looked all smoky, I couldn't see forward anymore. The dark shadows surrounded me, trapping me in the middle.
“Kiara. Kiara.“ Their whispers increased, causing me to feel nauseous.
“What do you want with me?“ I asked them. My intention was to distract them. They didn't answer me; it's like they knew my intention.
They came closer and closer, causing the space they had left for me to decrease. After a few seconds, they all grabbed me and started pulling me to where God knows.
“Help! Help!“ I screamed with all my might, hoping that someone might hear me and help me. “He…” I coughed, my voicebox failing to utter a single word.
“What the hell have you done to me?“ I opened my mouth to ask them, but I still couldn't utter anything. I closed my eyes, accepting my fate. I felt tears streaming down my cheeks as I believed that I was never fated to be happy.
The two months I had spent in Alpha Masno's mansion were well spent, and I couldn't ask for more. I never thought that I would one day get a princess treatment in my life.
“Let's not be greedy. It's better if we accept our fate.“ I whispered to my wolf.
Suddenly, a loud shriek echoed throughout the library. I raised my head to look above me and gasped. A large bird, whose possibility of flying into the library seemed impossible, capped its wings above us.
“Is the bird taking me out of here?“ I asked myself while looking at it in fear. It looked at my face, acting as if it were about to peck my head, but shriked so loudly that my ears rang when I trembled with fear.
It clapped its wings again, and golden-like smoke began falling. The smoke didn't hurt me, so I still looked at it, wondering its intentions.
Painful screams filled my ears, forcing me to tear my gaze from the bird and look around me. The shadows were screaming, melting away the moment the golden smoke came into contact with them.
In a short while, none of the shadows were left. The bird shrieked again and disappeared.
“What the hell just happened?“ I asked myself, looking around, only to meet the horror of my life.
