Mate Bond

Alaska POV

Alpha Kai holds me tightly. I know he is worried about the baby and me. I am not stupid. He has been a wild bachelor for a long time, and I am sure he is terrified by a mate and now a child. It is not just that. I have my own fears. For one, what if this is Finn's child? There is a possibility that I could be carrying either Alpha Kai or Finn's baby. Then what?

Alpha Kai pulls back from me. He looks into my eyes. I can feel his love, and I see his concern, but there is something else. What is it? What is he hiding from me? Maybe he knows that I am worried about the baby, or to be more clear, and maybe he knows I am afraid the baby is not his.

"Our mate bond," I whisper.

"What?" Alpha Kai says, looking confused.

"I do not hear you in our link," I say, confused and unsure of what has happened. I could hear him up until he left for a run, and now the link is gone.

"Did you reject me?" I ask him.

"No, why would you say such a thing?" Alpha Kai growls. He gets up and moves away from me quickly.

"I know you love me, but maybe I am too much for you. Maybe all my problems are too much, and now there is a baby," I say softly. I begin to cry. I try to stop it, but it keeps coming. My emotions are all over the place, and I feel.... FUCK I feel rejected by him.

"I would never turn my back on you," Alpha Kai says.

I watch his hands and his body language. There is something he is not telling me. "I accepted you as my mate, and you are the only one I want. I know you are upset about Finn, but I was only trying to be there for him. He saved my life, Alpha Kai. All I wanted to do was be his friend," I say.

Alpha Kai begins to storm out. He stops in the doorway. "It is not easy for me to see you with Finn. He was your lover, and it hurts," Alpha Kai says.

He walks out, leaving me crying and upset. I move toward the side of the bed and try to get up. I am supposed to stay in the bed, but I need to talk to Beta Bailey. I need her advice.  She is the only one to whom I can tell my concerns, and that will understand. Anyone else in the pack, even Doctor James, will think I am a whore. Maybe I am a whore for falling in love and in the bed of Alpha Kai. Maybe I deserve all of this.

"Did you hear about Kim?" a voice whispers in the other room. I creep toward the chatter. Kim was one of the she wolves that fucked my mate before he became faithful to me.

"No, tell me," the other voice says. The other girl giggles, and then I hear someone behind me. I turn to see Beta Bailey.

"Let me help you to bed," Beta Bailey says. I shush her and continue to listen.

"You do not want to find out this way. You should ask Alpha Kai," Beta Bailey says.

At the moment, the words ring out in a whisper. I did not want to hear the words, but I already knew the minute I could not hear my mate in our bonded link anymore.

"Kim fucked Alpha Kai in the woods, and now she is being banished," the voice whispers.

I want to scream and cry, but instead, I say nothing. I look at Beta Bailey and stare at her. "Did you come here to tell me?" I ask her.

Beta Bailey shifts around uncomfortably. "It is not my place. Alpha Kai should tell you himself what he did. He said he was going to tell you, but I can see he did not keep his word," Beta Bailey says.

"No, he did not," I say.

I stand in the hallway for a moment. What did I expect? Did I really think the playboy Alpha would change for me and become a husband and a father? Was I ever stupid?

"Can you take me to Finn? I will be staying with him," I say.

"He is in the hospital with round-the-clock care. You need rest," Beta Bailey says, pointing me toward my bed. I will never get in that bed that I shared with Alpha Kai again. I am done with him and his games.

"Then the hospital would be the best place for me since I am on bed rest. Take me to Finn! NOW! And do not tell Alpha Kai where I am," I growl.

"I cannot lie to my Alpha, but I will take you to Finn. You are right; a hospital is a good place for you to be," Beta Bailey says.

I turn to the bedroom and stop before entering. "I do not want anything I have here. I still have things in Finn's cabin. I never want to smell Alpha Kai or see him again," I say. I turn away from the bedroom I shared with Alpha Kai and start walking toward the front of the pack house.

Everyone is watching me. The entire pack knows I am pregnant, and my mate slept with a whore. I hold my head high as I walk out of the pack house. Beta Bailey is behind me to escort me to the hospital.

As I get into the truck with Beta Bailey, a strong arm grabs me and turns me around. "Where are you going?" Alpha Kai asks me.

I am so angry with him. I slap him hard across his face, releasing every drop of anger I have inside of me onto him. "I never want to see you again, and you are nothing but a man whore. You lied to me! I hate you!" I scream at him.

I get into the truck and slam the door. Alpha Kai does not retaliate; instead, he stands there looking at me. "I love you," he finally says as Beta Bailey puts the truck in drive, and we drive away.
