Chapter 20: At Home
Finally, we arrived at Constantine’s house. Since I didn’t pay attention to it before when the guards tied and took me to Constantine’s house, I took time to observe the house now. It was a middle-size home with a wood fence and broken white wall. I smiled at him as I poked his waist.
“What?” He asked while smiling back at me.
“Your taste in choosing the colors is amazing. I feel I have been at home already.”
Constantine circled his arms around my waist and whispered, “I’m glad you feel that way. Maybe instinctively, I know I’ll bring my mate here one day.”
He showed me to a small garden first. It had some big trees, a swing, and various lovely flowers. It surprised me as I thought I would find primarily red roses as it was common for people to grow red roses in their garden. Instead, they were all white roses, lilies, orchids, daisies, and snowdrops. I blinked as it was indeed unexpected.
When I lifted my head to stare at him, Constantine gazed at me too. “What?”
“It’s unexpected as you have all white flowers here. Why?”
“I had a frustrating dream about a mysterious woman wearing a white dress and the white petal flowers flying around her. She kept calling me, “Constantine, please remember me,” even though I could not see her face. I tried so hard to know the meaning of the dream. Yet, until now, I know nothing.”
“Why does it frustrate you to have a dream like that?”
“It’s the same dream. I keep dreaming about it once or twice a month. Sometimes, when I’m anxious, I dream about it more often. The most torturing thing is I tried to chase the woman a few times, but she disappeared each time I had been closer.”
I laid my head on his upper arm and hugged his waist with an arm. “Can it be me?”
Constantine said nothing but then kissed my forehead. “It’s possible.” Then he held my shoulders with both arms and took an arm’s length. His eyes squinted. “Can you help me?”
“Sure. What is it?”
“Walk to the middle of the garden, please. Just near those flowers.”
Obediently, I strolled near the flowers. The fragrance was outstanding. As if The Highest One wanted to bless me more, the cold wind blew, and I giggled as some flower petals flew because of the wind. It was like being in a dreamland. But then, Constantine’s words brought a lump to my throat.
“It’s you! Please, turn around slowly.”
I followed what he said. When I gazed at him, his eyes stared at me without blinking. Then he ran after me, grabbed me, and lifted me to his chest effortlessly as if I were only a feather.
“It’s you,” he said again. His eyes were now wet because of tears.
“Constantine?”
“You don’t know how happy and relieved I am to find you. Now, I won’t let you go. You are my destiny, Victoria.” He caressed my hair and kissed it. “I saw you in the visions. Then you haunted me in dreams. Now, you are here. It’s a sign for me to never forget you.”
I wiped his tears with my fingers, but my eyes were damp too now. “Maybe The Highest One finally unites us in this life.”
“For sure. Nothing will separate us again.”
I hugged his back and poured my tears on his chest. Could I ask for time to stop now? If I could ask for a perfect time, this was it! I sobbed hard until Constantine kissed my tears.
“Why are you crying?”
“Because I’m too happy. I’m afraid it’s only a dream.”
Constantine hugged me for a moment as he kept kissing my face. Finally, the tears ceased to flow from my eyes. Then I squealed as he lifted me and carried me to leave the garden.
“Where are we going?”
“Inside. I haven’t shown you around.”
He opened the door with a hand while his other arm still carried me. When the door was opened, we entered a hall. Then Constantine brought me to the living room. It was a simple but elegant room. Not much furniture inside, only two couches and a table were in the middle of the room. Then there was a rug on the corner and a small table next to the rug.
“Why do you place the small table and a rug there?”
“If I want to sit on the floor, I can use the rug.”
“The table? What is it for?”
“To write something.”
“Don’t you have a working room?”
“I do.”
I frowned as it was weird to see the rug here, but I asked nothing. Constantine let me sit on the couch as he walked to the connecting door. He opened the door. I could see another room next to the living room.
“Ready for the next room?” he asked.
“Sure.”
We visited his working room, dining room, bathroom, and finally, the bedroom again. This time I took time to pay attention to the details. His bedroom was minimalist too, only a king-size bed and cupboard there. Again, I was confused as there was another rug on the floor.
“You like the rugs so much, huh?”
“Yeah. Do you want to know the function?”
“Dry your feet after having a shower? Sitting on the floor when bored with your working and living rooms?”
“Nope.” He grinned, grabbed my hand, and pulled me until I sat on the rug. “We can try this rug from now on.”
“Hmm?”
“I always imagine that I can make love with my mate on the rug.”
I blushed as it was an exciting idea, but then suddenly, I remembered the living room’s rug. “How about the living room’s rug?”
His smile was broader. He was totally handsome when he smiled like that. “I haven’t thought about it. But after you said it, yes, my darling. We can try to use the rug too later.”
Constantine pushed me until I lay on the rug. He lowered himself to kiss my lips. I circled my arms to his neck and closed my eyes. If it were a dream, please never wake me up! I was at home already because I was with him.
