Chapter 23: Visiting the Hurricane Dawn Pack
The next day, Nate and I prepared to visit the Hurricane Dawn Pack. My father gave Nate a trunk of gold and jewelry as his dowry. We had breakfast first at our father’s house before leaving.
“So, Nate, have you thought about what you will do when you meet Lisa?” my father asked.
Nate stopped his fork in the air and then put it on the plate. “I will tell her honestly that I intend to build a real family with her.”
I whistled. “I want to be there to see her face.”
“Cameron!” my father warned me. “Honesty may be a good strategy, but you will need more than that to win her. Have you thought of what I said to Cameron?” Then he glanced at me. “Cameron, have you told your brother about what we talked yesterday?”
“I did, but Nate refused.”
My father let out a long sigh. “My son,” he patted Nate’s shoulder, “your mate with Lisa is important for both of you and both packs. If you fail, we may need to go to war.”
Nate was quiet. He only stared at the table.
“I’m sorry to give you more pressure, but as much as possible, I don’t want our packs to battle each other. Our new alliance with them is still fragile. I don’t think it helps much with Cameron’s back off from the agreement.”
I gulped. “I’m sorry, Father.” If I only I could know about Victoria faster, this problem wouldn’t happen.
My father raised his hand, asking me to stop. “You don’t mean it.”
“I do. I don’t want to give trouble to our pack.”
“Yet you won’t leave Anna for our pack.”
Nate shook his head and immediately came to my rescue. “Father, we have agreed I will be Cameron’s replacement. I will try my best to do it. But if I have done everything and it doesn’t work, I may consider your suggestion.”
My father blew his breath and nodded. “Good son! I dislike asking you to do it, but if it’s the only way for the good of all, why not?”
Nate glanced at me. I understood what he thought as he talked through the mind link. ‘Let’s go, Cam.’
I nodded a little at him. “Father, Nate and I will go. Give us your blessings to Nate.”
Nate kneeled before my father. Then my father put his hand on Nate’s head.
“I pray the Highest One will grant you success in the mission. But above all, I wish you happiness and peace with Lisa. Go now!”
Nate bowed his head. “Thank you, Father. I won’t let you down.”
Then both of us left our father’s house. Nate said nothing from the time we left. Instead, he put the dowry trunk on the baggage of the car. Two warriors waited for us. One drove our black limousine, and another opened the door for us. Four warriors drove in a black SUV in front of us, and another four drove the identical car behind us. These cars were bulletproof and specially designed to be silver-proof too.
It was a peace-treaty visit to the Hurricane Dawn Pack, but we could never be too careful. Other packs could attack us. If it didn’t go well, it was more likely that Lisa’s pack could start the war by attacking us. So, it was better to be overprepared than the opposite.
Nate said nothing, and his face was gloomy. His forehead creased, and he sat straight. I patted his shoulder, and it startled him.
“What?” he asked.
“What are you thinking?”
“Everything.” His forehead was wrinkled. I knew we put a lot of pressures on his shoulders.
“I haven’t thanked you properly for doing this, Nate. Thank you so much.”
Nate smiled, and he was more relaxed. His mouth was less stiff. “You are welcome.”
“I know it’s a big sacrifice to you to mate with Lisa. Considering she isn’t someone you will choose yourself.”
Nate shrugged. “It’s not a big deal. Eventually, I will have a mate too. Though a political marriage has never crossed my mind, I’m glad I can be useful for our pack.”
“If you think she is too much for you to handle, let me know. We will cancel it.”
“No. I can do it. Lisa will be mine, and it’s about time for her to accept it.”
I grinned, and we didn’t talk about anything afterward. Finally, we arrived at the Hurricane Dawn Pack after an hour. The guard recognized our pack’s symbol in the flag placed in the front of our cars. One of them approached us, bowing. Our driver opened my window, and the Hurricane Dawn Pack’s guard walked to talk to me.
“Greetings!”
I nodded. “Greetings. I’m Beta Cameron Black from the Wild Wolves Pack. This is Delta Nathanael Thorn, my brother. We want to meet Delta Lisa Shadow.”
The guard nodded and then returned inside. After waiting a minute or two, the guards opened the gate, and our cars entered the pack. The drivers parked our cars in the guest parking area. Then our driver opened the door for Nate and me.
“Do you need me to bring the trunk, sir?” the driver asked Nate.
Nate shook his head. “No need. I will bring it by myself.”
We walked to a large house. A butler opened the door and asked us to wait in the large, white living room. The Shadows’ house was impressive. With two large windows and an antique door, a high-quality table, couches, and an expensive red carpet imported from abroad, I could bet anything that Lisa might demand more.
Nate put the trunk on the table and sat next to me. We waited for almost an hour. I sighed because of the necessity to wait for a long time, as we might have come here for nothing. It was a waste of time. But then, before I could say anything, the door opened, and a blonde woman with blue eyes approached. She wore a sexy golden dress, revealing her cleavage and voluptuous figure.
Nate and I stood. Then I said, “Lisa, thank you for having us though we came unexpectedly.”
Lisa said nothing at first. Instead, she glanced at Nate, who stared at her too. “Who is this?” Her lips curled a smile.
