Like a pest, pestering me
I sighed, keeping Owen’s letter in my pockets, and opened the door.
A beaming Gusev greeted me, his same old robe and wide grin, flashing his dazzling teeth at me were evident.
He went inside the room without waiting for my invitation and looked around, pacing back and forth as if a supervisor was checking his employee.
Shouldn’t he be hiding as the sun is up now? people are everywhere, and how did he even get here without the people wondering about his appearance. “It’s broad daylight and you walk around, showing people that you’re a vampire.”
He shrugged, “I guess I’m just that dazzling for them.”
He made himself home as he sat by the bed and looked at me. “I managed to get rid of the enemies last time. Don’t you want to compliment and thank me?”
I sighed, he’s the same as always.
“Thank you for helping me, Gusev,” I said, a bit against my own will but still saying it.
He smirked, “You’re welcome, anytime, my juice box.”
“What about Darian? Did you kill them all?” I couldn’t help but ask and he shrugged.
“I regret to say this but no…I killed his subordinates, but he was tough to fight with, but I managed to injure him enough to stop him from seeing you for a while.”
I nodded. Of course, Darian is an alpha. No matter how I say that he’s a bit weaker compared to Alpha Magnus, he is still powerful enough to not be killed that easily. He’s a tough opponent next time. I have to be stronger when the time comes..
He then looked around, “You were alone? Where’s that other wolf you’re with?”
I pointed at the letter, “He left.”
His mouth formed an o in shock, “He did? Wow….that’s selfish of him knowing you’re in a tight spot now.”
“He has his own reason, Gusev.” I defended and he raised his hands up in surrender.
“Alright, alright, if you say so, I didn’t come here to argue with you.”
Standing up, he then inhaled my scent, closing his red eyes as he did so, “It’s your smell, enemies are coming after you because of your sweet scent.” His expression was seriously looking at me, “You need to hide it.. and the way to do that is to be with me.”

I raised my eyebrows, “Are you doing that because you just need a reason to stay with me?”
“Yes, I just couldn’t leave you alone. Remember, they’re after you.”
“Then so be it. Let them come, Gusev. I want to face it head-on.”
Gusev shook his head, “You’re really stubborn, eh? I’m the one offering to help you here.”
“I appreciate it, but leave. I didn’t leave the pack just to be treated like a kid.”
He sat on the floor stubbornly, and pouted, “I won’t leave. I’ll call my best friend Magnus if you won't let me tag along with you.”
I sighed, “Don't you have something to do? Like, suck other humans' blood?”
He shrugged, “I have been roaming around this world for centuries. I’ve seen enough, but I love your blood.”
I massaged my temples, feeling like I’m talking to some kid. “Why are you and your best friend both obsessed with my scent and my blood? Leave me alone.”
At that, he instantly stood up and held my cheeks, “So Magnus had a taste of your blood already?” He asked with widened eyes and pout, “How lucky, wish I could do that too.”
I scrunched my nose in disgust, “No thank you.”
“So why did you leave him exactly? Like what is the reason?” He started to butt in, minding my business now and I glared at him.
“Scram off. Stop minding other people’s business.”
He chuckled, “Alright, I won’t ask again, but with the way you react, it seems that it’s a bit serious….I kind of get the gist of it..”
He then grabbed a knife and quickly wounded me, and drank some of my blood.
I watched in horror at him doing that. “Consider that as payment for protecting you.”
I instantly withdrew my hand from him, “You could have asked for permission properly.” I snarled.
“Oh, I apologize, I was just tempted to your blood.” He answered. “But fine, If you still won’t let me stay with you, then I’ll stalk you around and will update your mate.”
I gasped, “Why do you think it's fun to poke into other’s business.”
He suddenly turned serious, “You’re a mess. You don't have a direction now. Tell me, what’s your plan? Where will you stay? Do you have money to hide within humans? Everyone is after you.”
I gritted my teeth, not because of how stupid I am but because of how right he is. He is hitting a good point. And my stubborn ass and huge ego.
“I’ll apply to work to be able to fend for myself. I can handle myself.”
He looked at me straight in the eyes, sensing if I was true to my words. When he was sure I wouldn’t back down and was talking seriously, he gave up.
“Alright. Fine. I’ll let you on your own now.”
As soon as Gusev left, I went to the nearby coffee shop and tried to apply to work.
I found out that humans need some papers and requirements in order to work. Trying to find a way, an old woman just in time was strolling along the streets and offered to make the paper thing called a birth certificate and she input a fake identity of mine.
I applied to the coffee shop again and was hired. Since I was adjusting, I made a few mistakes but I was a fast learner so it took me only three days to master everything. From making the drinks to washing dishes to cleaning the shop.
The owner even praised me for doing well. I guess humans tend to live the same as us. Except for the part where we tend to live longer than 100 years. How could they enjoy life the most with that short amount of time in this world? But still, put a smile on their faces?
They’re weak and fragile…but still wake up every day to live.
Living with humans also made me aware of how similar they are to us. They have various emotions, they have fear, fear, love, and compassion. There were also those who betray, lie and kill, like some of our kind.
I guess in every creature, there would always be good and bad. No one is perfect. No creature is better than the others.
A year had passed and I was so used to living like this working my ass off to support myself and somehow, no enemy had attacked me, which is opposite to what they all warned me about.
Maybe it was really the best decision to live with the humans.
I was assigned to take out the trash when I heard a low howling from outside. It sounded kind. Checking it, I saw a lone kid sitting by the wall beside the trash can, his stomach growling as he closed his eyes and stifled a tear.
I kneeled down, but made sure to keep a distance so he wouldn't get scared of me, “Hello there, kid.”
The child looked up and I was shocked to see how silver his eyes were. His hair was blonde and he looked like he was around 7 years old…Smelling him, I instantly knew he was the same as me. He’s a werewolf too. But abandoned?
“What are you doing here, child?”
