What is Marcus up to

I look into his eyes. "I want you," I say as he holds me.

My want for him is unreal. I would love to be with him in every way, but I do not think I can right now. "I want you," I repeat as I bury my head into his chest.

"You have no idea how badly I want you, but not just sexually, Kayla. I want to be yours in every way. I want this to work," Alpha Maximus says.

He holds me in a way that makes me shiver. My body tingles and aches for him. "We will be together soon," I say.

"Do you really want to leave here?" Alpha Maximus asks me again.

I already answered his question once, but I think he is afraid I am leaving this pack because of fear. "Yes, I want to start a new life and forget every little bad thing that happened here," I say. His hand brushes through my hair. I am so close to him.

I look up into his eyes, my chin buried in his chest. "Kiss me," I whisper.

He leans down, takes my mouth, and kisses me. The sparks of our mate bond feel healing. Every touch from Maximus makes me want to be his in every way I can possibly be his. "I want to be as close to you as I can without judgment from everyone here. It feels like they all do not want us together. I feel ridiculed. Take me away from here today, please," I beg him.

"You can hand over the land to my Beta Al. He would honor the land and the legacy," Alpha Maximus says. He touches my chin. "You and I can leave immediately after Beta Al takes over."

I nod. "That is what I want. I want nothing more than to be your Luna. Are you sure you want someone broken?" I ask him.

Alpha Maximus looks upset. "You are not broken, and I never want to hear those words come out of your mouth. You are amazing, Kayla. You are my mate, my future wife, and Luna. You are not broken. You are perfect," Alpha Maximus says.

Snap. A twig snaps in the distance. "Someone is coming," I say.

"Go, I will catch up. I want to see who is listening to us and watching us," Alpha Maximus says.

I take my wolf form and begin running toward the house. My heart feels full and happy. I hear something or some wolf howling. That is not Alpha Maximus. I wonder who would be so interested in a conversation between me and Alpha Maximus. I also want to know why no one wants him to be happy.

I run toward the house, thinking. There are so many things I want to know about Alpha Maximus and his family. I did not know Soran as well as I thought I did after all. It seems there are a lot of secrets on this land, and to be perfectly honest, I do not want to be a part of any of these secrets or lies. I had heard from a few people that Soran had a bit of a temper, but I had never seen anything but kindness from him and his family. Still, why did this family send one son away and treat him like garbage? Do I want to know the truth, or should I let it go and focus on building a life with Alpha Maximus?

I stop in front of the house. I can see two new she-wolves standing in the doorway of the house. I step up onto the porch. "Kayla?" one of the women asks me.

"Luna Kayla," I respond. I believe I earned the title.

"Sorry. I am June, and this is my sister Jana. We work for Alpha Marcus. He sent us to check on you and make sure Alpha Maximus is acting appropriately. I mean, you are aware he has a past and a dead girlfriend incident that haunts him. We do not want anything to happen to you, Luna," June says. She twists around in an odd fashion.

I smile at June and then turn to smile at Jane. "I appreciate you coming. Is Alpha Marcus with you?" I ask June.

"No, Luna Kayla. We are here in his place to check on you. I believe I already said that," June says sarcastically.

I lean into June. "Well, then you can get off my fucking porch and tell Alpha Marcus to go to hell," I say. I go into the house and slam the door, locking it behind me. June pulls at the door.

"He is crazy. He will hurt you just like he did Nancy. Be careful, Luna Kayla. Be very careful," June screams through the door.

I hear growling coming from outside and then screaming. Alpha Maximus! I rush to the door to see Alpha Maximus and a wolf I do not recognize fighting. The two women are trying to get into the house, but I will not let the two bitches inside. For all I know, they are working with the unknown wolf.

"Let us in!" June screams.

"NO!" I scream back at her.

Within a few minutes, Alpha Maximus manages to subdue the white wolf. He does not kill him, but the wolf is not moving. "Friend of yours?" he asks June and Jana as he walks past them.

The two rush over to the wolf to check on him. I open the door for Alpha Maximus. "We need to get the hell out of here, Kayla," Alpha Maximus says.

"I do not care what happens to this place. If your Beta wants it, then it is his. Otherwise, just get me out of here," I say. Alpha Maximus nods and pulls me to him. He kisses my forehead.

"I will gather my men and Beta Al. You pack anything you want to take, and we are out of here," Alpha Maximus says.

I rush up the stairs to grab a few things. Everything I am taking with me fits in a small bag. I do not want a lot to remind me of this horrible time in my life. I want to move on and be free from this place and this nightmare.

"Kayla," Alpha Maximus calls to me. I hear his heavy boots coming up the steps.

I step out of the bedroom with my bag. "I am ready," I say.

The two of us go down the stairs, waiting for me in the living room is Beta Al. "Do you want to be Alpha?" I ask him.

He looks puzzled. "Yes, Kayla," Beta Al answers.

"Then it is yours," I say. I grab Alpha Maximus and pull him out of the house. His wolves are following as I am dragging him away.

"Calm down. You are safe," Alpha Maximus says.

I hear wolves howling as Alpha Maximus, I, and three of his wolves get into one black SUV. I hope we are safe. I lean back on Alpha Maximus. I already feel relieved as we drive away.
