Chapter 7
ALEXIS
It was a very quiet afternoon since no one was home, or at least that was what I thought since there wasn't any noise coming from any of the rooms. It felt wonderful. I enjoyed having some peace and quiet once in a while since there were usually people always coming and going.
I smiled softly and continued sewing the pieces of cloth together. I was making a stuffed animal for a newborn pup, who was born just a few days ago. His parents were going to have his ceremony in a few days, where they thanked the Moon Goddess for blessing them with a pup and announce his name to the pack. It was a small ceremony, but it was a big deal for the pack.
For them, it was welcoming a new addition, a new pack member who would fight beside them in the future.
"Alexis, do you have a bobby pin?"
I jumped and nearly pricked myself with the needle, "Jesus Boston, you scared me."
He raised an eyebrow and smirked, "Aren't you a werewolf? Where's your hearing? I literally stomped down the stairs to annoy Hudson."
I put the needle down and turned to look at him properly, "Hudson's in the house?"
"Yeah, he locked himself in his room and won't say a word. That's why I was trying to annoy him. Anyway, do you have a bobby pin?"
"Why?" I asked, narrowing my eyes in suspicion. He didn't even have that much hair to use a bobby pin.
"I want to unlock his door so I can see what he's doing. My guess is that he's jerking off or something."
There was a stunned silence. I was dumbfounded by his blunt answer, but he didn't even seem fazed. He acted like this was normal.
"Come on, Alexis. He's a twenty-five year old virgin. He needs some way to release."
My mouth fell open even more, "Are you serious, Boston?"
Thankfully, my wolf didn't know what to make of this new information either– half of her was still in shock, the other half wanted to do something about it, which in this case meant she wanted to mate with Hudson.
Boston shrugged, "It seems reasonable enough. How else was he supposed to satisfy his needs when he didn't have a mate? He obviously wasn't going to sleep with a random she-wolf."
I smiled slightly and went back to my sewing.
It was good to know that Hudson was a virgin. I really respected him for that and so did my wolf. Sadly, many wolves didn't hesitate to sleep around if they didn't find their mate in the first six months after they turned twenty. According to them, their wolves would "feel a need to be intimate with someone" which didn't make sense at all since I had never felt the urge before.
Then again, I wasn't interested in another relationship. I just wanted my mate, so maybe Hudson felt the same sentiment.
"Boston, what are you doing? You are supposed to be helping Beta Mitchell organize the new pack warriors."
Boston snorted at Matthew's statement, "Beta Mitchell postponed. He had to babysit his heavily pregnant mate for a while."
"Wait, why are there new pack warriors? Didn't new ones get recruited just three months ago?" I asked, butting into the conversation.
Matthew sighed and sat down on the barstool next to me, "Hudson and your dad decided it would be best for the packs to recruit more warriors since there have been more rogue attacks than usual lately."
"I don't get what those rogues want. We had no issues with them for years and all of a sudden they start attacking random packs. There isn't even a pattern," Boston muttered, stealing an apple from the fruit bowl.
"Has anyone asked the witches about this? Perhaps they know something," I said.
"Hudson's father went down to one of the witches in the south. But she apparently didn't say much and sprouted some shit about the Moon Goddess's blessing and something gold."
I froze with my needle in mid-air, "Gold?"
Matthew narrowed his eyes, "Yeah. Is something wrong?"
"No, not at all," I swallowed hard.
Everything was wrong with what the witch said.
"Does my dad know about the witch?" I asked worriedly.
Matthew didn't seem to believe that everything was alright, but he let it go thankfully, "Not really. Hudson and Alpha Horris have only gotten around to talking about alliances. Your dad is still hesitant about forming one with our pack. But I'm sure Hudson will inform him of everything once the alliance is confirmed."
I nodded and turned my head back to my sewing to avoid eye contact with Matthew.
"That reminds me. Aren't you supposed to go into your heat today? It's been two days since you met Hudson."
I groaned quietly, "Yes. I'm just hoping it comes soon so I can get it out of the way. I hear the heat cycle is worse than getting your period."
The heat cycle was a lot more painful from what my mom told me. It lasted three days, but those three days were hell. The first day, the she-wolf would experience severe stomach cramps and an unbearable desire to mate. If the she-wolf didn't mate the first day, the second day would be even worse. She would have a massive migraine and even more stomach cramps, not to mention a severe throbbing in her private parts. And if the she-wolf didn't mate on the second day either, then she would basically be passed out on the third day from exhaustion.
A lot of she-wolves didn't experience all three days because they would mate on the first day, but my mom had to go through all three days the first time. My dad was injured when she went into her first cycle so they couldn't mate.
"I feel sorry for she-wolves. The Moon Goddess is ruthless."
I nodded in agreement. The only reason the heat cycles existed was so that mated couples would have children faster. The Moon Goddess wanted the wolf species to grow larger.
Suddenly, there was a stab of pain in my abdomen and I immediately hunched over. My body started feeling feverish as a wave of nausea ran over me.
"Shit," Boston said, jumping up from his chair, "You're going into your heat."
"No shit, Einstein," I gasped out, gripping the counter as I felt the sudden urge to hurl. The cramps were starting to get stronger.
"Alexis, we have to move you upstairs. Your scent is changing. Soon there will be a crowd of unmated wolves standing in front of your door. You have to move now," Matthew snapped, trying to pull me up.
I let out a shaky breath and stood up, flinching at the pain that took over my senses. My wolf started howling and shaking her fur out. She was starting to feel the desire to mate.
"Alexis, you're not safe around us. Our wolves are stirring," Boston said quietly, closing his eyes that were slowly darkening. I started to make my way to the staircase and quickly mind-linked my mom, "Mom, please come home. I'm starting my heat cycle."
She replied a second later, "Sweetie, go to your room and lock yourself inside. It's not safe for you to roam the house. I'll be there in T-5."
I began climbing the stairs slowly, trying to resist the urge to lean over and let my breakfast back out. As I reached the top stop, there was a loud roar from one of the rooms.
My eyes widened as I stared at the door where the roar came from.
Shit.
It was Hudson's room.
Suddenly, there were rapid footsteps behind me.
"Alexis, lock yourself in your room now! Hudson is going to go bonkers now. He caught your scent," Boston said, racing down the hallway to Hudson's room.
I nodded and moved as fast I could to my room, before locking myself up.
This was going to be so hard.
