Chapter 19 My Life Will Never Be Normal
Laura POV
There is someone at my door. They are trying to open it. I hold my fairy light and wait. "Luther!" I scream, hoping it is him.
I hear fighting begin again. "Luther," I scream out again. I hear a crash, and then something hits my door. "LUTHER!" I cry out.
The door opens, and it is not Luther. It is Selene. There is fighting behind her, and I hear Luther. Selene is coming toward me. "Please do not hurt me!" I scream at her.
"I am going to kill you, bitch!" Selene screams at me as she runs toward me.
"Please no! I am pregnant!" I scream. Selene stops for a moment. She smiles at me with a wicked smile.
Luther and Geroge are fighting just outside the door of my room. I am screaming for my life. I push a fairy light from my palm and strike her in the face. "Get away from me!" I scream.
George sees Selene trying to hurt me. He runs to help me. He pushes Selene away from me. "You will not hurt her," George says. "She was nice to me; leave her alone," George backs his mother into the corner.
Selene begins stabbing George. "Stop!" I scream.
Luther and Drake rush into the room. "Help George!" I scream at both of them.
Luther grabs me, and Drake makes way for us past Selene and George fighting. Luther runs with me out of the cottage. I am crying and screaming. Luther sets me down outside the cabin.
"I am going back in the cottage to kill them both. I want you to run. Run back to wolf territory. Do not stop until you are out of the fairy tribe lands," Luther says to me.
I shake my head. "You do not understand. She is controlling him. He is harmless," I protest.
"He killed the council; he killed your parents, Laura," Luther says.
"Because of her. He is your brother, and he needs your help," I protest.
"Run, Laura," Luther says to me.
Drake and Luther go back into the fairy cottage. I start running. I run until I see Emily. I stop and hug her. " Are you okay, Laura?" Emily asks me.
"No, Yes, Maybe. I do not know," I answer her.
"Let's get you out of here. The boys will be fine; we need to get you out of here," Emily says.
"I do not want to leave without Luther," I say to her.
Emily takes me by the hand. "I promise he will be fine," Emily says to me.
I walk with her to the edge of the fairy tribe lands. We wait for hours. I am terrified something is wrong. "They are fine," Emily says.
"I think we should go check on them," I say.
"No, they are coming. Luther needed time to grill his mother. He wants answers from her. I did not let up on her," Emily says.
"I hope she tells him everything," I say.
Emily shakes her head. "She will tell him nothing, but it is okay. This will all be over soon," Emily says.
"I hope so; I just want to move on and rebuild and have a normal life," I say.
"Your life and Luther's life will never be normal. It will always be chaotic. You have responsibilities to a fairy tribe and a wolf pack. It will not be easy, but the two of you can do it. Plus raising babies," Emily says.
"Babies?" I question her.
Emily reaches over and touches my stomach. "Oh, yes, babies," she says with a smile and a laugh.
"I need to tell him," I say.
"He questioned me hard about what I told you," Emily says.
"Did you tell him?" I ask.
"No, besides, I figured you wanted to confirm with the fairy doctor first," Emily says.
I sit staring out into the field, waiting for Luther. I look back to Emily. "Are you sure I am pregnant?" I ask her.
"Yes, one hundred percent positive. Your kind, it is easy to tell when you are pregnant," Emily says.
"What do you mean?" I ask her. Emily laughs. She takes my hand and pulls at my fairy light. It hurts as she pulls it from my hand.
"See, your light, see the glow is different," Emily says.
I look at my fairy light. She is right. It is majestic. It is not the normal white light that glows. It is glowing with multiple colors. I remember my mother telling me about this when I was younger. I smile as I look at the light. I can only imagine what kind of grandmother and grandfather my parents would have been to my child or children. Now, these babies will have only Luther and me, no grandparents. It makes me sad thinking my mother misses this. I begin to cry.
"Did you not want to have a child?" Emily asks.
I wipe the tears from my face. I smile as I look back at her. "Yes, of course, I want a child with Luther. We are still so young. I have no idea if this is something he wants," I say.
Emily looks toward the fairy tribe lands. Drake and Luther are walking toward us. They both look beaten and tired. Both wolves are covered in blood and ash. Emily opens the door to the truck and gets out. "Drake!" she yells as she runs toward him.
I get out of the truck and run behind her toward Luthers. I run straight into his arms. He holds me tightly and leans down to kiss the top of my head. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" I ask him.
"No, I am fine. Drake is fine. Selene is dead," Luther says.
We walk toward pack territory. As we get almost to the truck, I realize he said nothing about George. "Wait, what about George?" I ask him.
"He killed Selene. I did not kill him. Only because you were right, none of this was his fault. She controlled his every move. She used him. He has not been in the world much and is almost like a child himself. I am not sure what we should do with him," Luther says.
"He is your half-brother, Luther. You should love him and help him to become a good man," I say.
Drake and Emily walk ahead of us. We stop. "He killed my father. He killed your parents and the council. Can you forgive him?" Luther asked me.
"I know it is crazy, but I do not blame him. I blame your mother. We need to put the blame where it belongs," I say to Luther.
"I do not know if the pack will accept him after everything he has done," Luther says.
"Where is he now?" I ask Luther.
"I left him at the cottage," Luther says.
"I have an idea, but first, we need to talk," I say to him.
Emily and Drake make it to the truck and begin to holler for us to come on. "We can talk later. Will he be okay out there by himself for now?" I ask Luther.
Luther looks back to the cottage. "I think so," Luther says.
