The sun was already shining slightly through the dense trees when I opened my tired eyes and looked up at the sky.

My back ached from that hard forest floor, but I ignored it and just hoped my little one had at least slept better than me.

Full of anticipation for her sweet face, I turned to the side and wanted to hug her, but I reached into emptiness and immediately felt this huge panic rising in me.

My wolf growled so loud and menacingly that even I was startled and immediately looked for my feet to look around frantically, but no sign of her. Even her smell was nowhere to be found and my heart threatened to tear at that moment.

She really got on my nerves, even though my wolf kept making me imagine her naked and sweating underneath me, but then I threw him out of my mind anyway, which unfortunately became more and more difficult.

"What feelings?" I wanted to give her back disinterestedly, but suddenly I felt my body heat up slightly at the sight of her and my hands were already starting to sweat.

"Why are you looking for someone to run away from you?!" she yelled behind me, really pushing my patience to the limit.

"She didn't flee from me, just from the situation! I know her!" I retorted, annoyed, really hoping I was right about that. Aria still wanted me, right? I mean, she couldn't help it, I always marked her...

Caught in my thoughts, I suddenly realized that someone was still missing and I stopped so abruptly that Yasha ran into me and I could just hold her so that she didn't land on the ground again.

"Where's Juniper?" I asked her and looked at her intently, but she just shrugged and grinned. It occurred to me bitterly that Juniper would kill Aria so Yasha could have a clear run at me, but they were wolves. They knew that if my marked mate passed away, I would die. Yasha wouldn't risk that, would she?

"I don't know," she pulled me out of my thoughts and I immediately let go of her to continue walking into the forest.

"How did you actually know Aria-"

"Don't talk about her!" I instructed this nuisance and in the next moment felt a strong draft of air behind me, which also carried a smell that made me growl loudly.

"Vampires," I growled, wanting to turn to Yasha, but suddenly she was gone. Just gone... Disappeared... as if swallowed up by the face of the earth...

"Yasha?!", I shouted loudly and turned several times around my own axis, because slowly I really started to panic, where one girl after the other disappeared without a trace.
