Chapter 100
Catherine ---
‘You told Clair she has four pups she is carrying. Since when do you know how to count?”
Tabitha ---
“I don’t know how to count, but I do know it is more then two.” I hold up my two fingers to show Catherine.
Catherine ---
“Something tells me the picture machine isn’t going to work”
Tabitha ---
“Why do you say that?”
Catherine ---
“Because it didn’t work the last time they tried that on Clair.”
Tabitha –
“Yep look, it won’t turn on, you were right. Well that is a letdown.”
Doctor –
I am sorry to have to admit this, but I have old, outdated, and inoperable equipment that needs to be replaced. There are a couple of options that we can choose between.
1. "Prince Xander takes you to the hospital next door, which is much more modern than ours, or wait two more days until I can have a new sonogram machine delivered here"
A. One of the benefits of this argument is that it allows us to take a look right away at how many pups we have and to examine their health.
B. The con to this is that you are very pregnant with multiple pups and I would rather you stay in bed vs. traveling to the next hospital.
2. We can wait for delivery of the sonogram machine. The benefit is that you stay in bed. Because we are not sure how many pups you are carrying, at this point in your pregnancy, it is probably wise for your health.
The con is that we can’t see how the pups are faring. We can’t see how many pups you are actually carrying."
“Clair, your highness what is it that you would like to happen?” I asked trying to get her to thinking again. Ever since she had awakened she has laid there in fear. I see her eyes actually start to think, I see her sneak glances towards prince Xander. I hear her reply almost as if it were a whisper, “When do you think the pups will be born?”
Taking Clair’s hand, I explain to her, that I am pretty sure has around 6 pups. This means that she could have the pups soon, the question is do you want to chance going to another hospital and having your babies on the road?
Clair looked like she was having a conversation with herself. I took this chance to ask her about her wolf and how Catherine was faring through this?
“Clair? Have you been talking to your inner wolf Catherine?” Clair looks at me with wide eyes, that answered my question in itself of yes.
Clair ---
“You mean the voices in my head aren’t me going crazy?”
Doctor –
I laugh as I listen to a flabbergasted Clair who not only a few minutes ago could not talk above a whisper, and now she has found her lungs. Clair actually replied in a normal voice pitch. What is funny is she didn’t make any gasps when I told her she might be having more than 6-pups. I certainly felt the Prince tighten up when I said that.
Prince Xander ---
“When will she be able to come home? I will make certain I have someone watching her day and night. Also why do you think Clair is carrying so many pups?”
Doctor ---
“Yes your highness, she certainly can go home, she is much better. I just want to make certain she is made to stay in bed. She has too many pups she is carrying to be running around. Now the old Clair didn’t listen to anyone and did as she pleased.” I look over at Clair. “I am not trying to offend you, your highness. Couple this with the fact that Clair you were in a coma all week and had the strong hit to the head. Well, to keep Clair and the pups healthy, they need to stay in bed.”
Clair –
“You won’t have a problem with me, this Clair (Me) doesn’t want to leave my room. It frightens me not to know anyone around me. You will not have an issue with me.”
Doctor ---
“My concern is, when your amnesia is no longer. When you remember everything and you become yourself again. What then?” I sigh, “I guess we shouldn’t worry about tomorrow and get through today. Just make certain that she is in bed and that she sees a therapist every day, of course sees me, and that Clair you start to talk to people around you. We need to heal the whole you, not just the physical you, but the you that lies inside of you.
Xander –
The truth is that at this point she does not remember me, so to say that it doesn't hurt would be a lie. The next thing that I decided to do was to arrange for her mother to come over and hopefully this would help bring back my Clair. Clair's amnesia was tearing both my wolf and I emotionally to pieces as we cried silently together in the heart of the night. In the end, all we want to do for our dear Clair is to lay next to her and hug her until she is relieved of all of her pain. Then, as soon as her mother shows up and Clair is moved into our suite, we are ready to proceed. As I leave her mother in charge, I leave to go to my father's house to talk with him.
I walk into my father's office and see Michael, my beta, my lieutenant, and a couple of council members. Now it's time to start thinking about how we are going to capture the rogues on pack grounds and fortify the weakest areas of pack land.
What I didn’t expect was that they wanted to use Clair as bait to lure the traitor out. The whole table of men is quiet as I take my seat. The men look a little skittish as I can tell that none of them want to tell me what is on their minds.
I hear the doors open and I look up and see my sister standing there. She closes the doors and sits next to me. I am guessing they were awaiting my sister to break whatever news they needed to break to me. They know just how big my alpha wolf can get, he is the largest one around, even larger than my dad's, who is still the king.
Sighing I know I am about to get angry. This is when my sister takes my hand in hers, and she cautiously starts speaking.
Xantara –
I take a deep breath and hold a tranquilizer in my hidden hand. He must understand the good of the pack and the kingdom.
“Xander, you can feel my pain as I say this. I am your twin and we have always had a special connection. This kills me inside that I am even suggesting this, however, we cannot let the packs continue to suffer with kidnappings and killings. We need to find the mole in the Royal Pack because there are security breaches everywhere. This way we can once again be secure and in a position to help the other packs under the King and the Queen.”
Xander ---
I could feel exactly where this conversation was headed, and I couldn’t listen to this. I needed some time to think, so I morphed into my wolf and broke through the doors and out of the castle towards the forest. I needed to find another way.
