Chapter 44
Colt -
Besides watching over my Peace Wolf pack, Calden and Collin were also helping to support my pack.
Although the title of our pack was Peace, it was more cowardice than peace on our part. My sister was in danger, so I had to get her out of harm's way before I could stay and fight. It was for this reason that I agreed with my parents to sneak out with her.
During that raid by rogue wolves and dragons, I lost a lot of my friends. The only choice I have is to go back to my pack and my brothers can help me, but it is my pack, and it belongs to me.
The other day I had been checking in on my pack members on the lands that belonged to my dad's pack. Helping them to find the supplies they needed for their families and assuring them they would have a place to call home when they returned.
Priority one was rebuilding our packhouse, followed by each home in our little pack. Finding out the Princess was my mate was quite shocking to me. What would she think if she was the Luna of a small pack? Her whole life has been about enormous packs, big titles, and big spending accounts. Is she even interested in becoming my Luna?
What are the chances of her rejecting me? Back in the castle, she was definitely not pleased with me being her mate. My wolf was sad to see the princess run away from us. To him, it was like she rejected him.
Parker, my wolf, whimpers in the back of my mind. My heart breaks for him, because the rejection hurt me as well.
Xantara -
Once I saw I had a mate, I ran to my room. I don't even know why I was so scared. No, I wasn't one of those girls who felt devastated about not finding their soul mate. Without a mate, I am quite happy; I go where I want; I do what I want when I want, without having to answer to anyone.
Although she may be my best friend without having to answer to anyone but my wolf, I also view her as a nag. There have been many men I have slept with. I have been so independent, what should I do? How should I tell my boyfriend? It's not fair to reject my mate. It may kill our wolves.
My best friend, who was also my omega, was busy putting my clean clothes away when I opened the door to my suite. I grabbed them from her and asked, "What are you doing?" I don't want you to be my servant, you are first and foremost my best friend." I take the clothes and put them on the bed.
Cora —
“Woh! Xantara, get yourself together! I love putting away laundry!" I laugh, holding up one of Xantara's oversized bras next to my smaller breast. This had Xantara laughing. Xantara lay face down on her bed in the pile of clean laundry.
Xantara —
"Cora, you are too weird. I guess that is why I love you, my bestie. Tell me, Cora, do you really like being mated? I mean what is so special about being mated. I have been just fine without a mate! I am happy this way, right? Don't I look happy to you, Cora?”
I sit up in the center of my bed knees crossed and pat for Cora to take a seat. Cora’s eyes look perplexed like she is trying to solve a complex mystery from a crime scene. I am watching her as the cogs in the wheels of her brain are set in motion. I also think she is discussing this with her wolf Agnes.
Cora sits down on the bed slowly as she turns her head, screaming I think in jubilation. I was so startled I fell out of my King size bed landing on my butt.
Cora—-
“OMG! You have found your mate! Tell me all about him! Is he here in the castle? Are you going to live with him? Or is he coming here to live with you? Can I go meet him? Who is he?”
Xantara ——
“Listen my psycho friend, I have a boyfriend. Why would I want a mate anyway?”
Cora —
"You selfish little witch. Your boyfriend still has his mate to find, are you willing to sacrifice his mate as well as yours, and possibly kill everyone's wolves? Are you going to tell the Moon goddess she made a mistake without you even trying?”
Xantara—
I know all her words are true, I just became so used to my life, and I liked my life. I look at my dear friend Cora. I can see her frustrated with my reaction to my attitude about mates. I see her face soften, and she puts her hand on my shoulder.
Cora -
"Remember when you were required to take piano, and you fought it tooth and nail, but then one day you were angry if you missed piano lessons, in the beginning you had no clue that you would be so good at expressing your emotions through music.
We often become too complacent with the now and need to be pushed through the door that leads to uncertainty. We can give into our fears and never benefit from walking through that door because of fear, or we can become the person we are supposed to be and learn to overcome fear. It is up to you, Princess.”
Looking at Xantara, she is looking at her fingers that she is playing with. I take my hands and put them on hers. We have been friends since we could crawl.
"Xantara, we haven't just been best friends, but we are sisters. I will walk through any door with you. I am here and will always be here to be with you. Just give your mate a chance, find out who he is inside of his soul, his heart. I know you will do the right thing." Xantara hugs me, sniffling.
