Chapter 79 MYSTERY 102
When all other methods kept failing, Pastor Sheddy confronted Sobrina after church one of the Sundays in frustration. Sobrina had turned around to leave as she usually did after every service.
"Hey, Sister", Pastor Sheddy called after her.
"Hey sister Sobrina", he repeated when she didn't turn around. Sobrina turned and saw him in total amazement. He had announced before the closing prayer, that some group of people should wait after service to see him, and that he would be with them after a brief discussion with a sister. She didn't know she was the sister he had been referring to.
"Ah, Good afternoon Pastor. I didn't know you were calling after me", Sobrina responded with a smile.
"Yes I was, aren't you Sobrina Malcolm?",
"I am of course", Sobrina responded, feeling a bit alarmed. He had never used her last name.
"Come with me, we need to talk", Pastor Sheddy led Sobrina towards the outside of the small building.
"Do you remember the question you asked me few weeks ago, during the Single and Married program?",
"Errrrrrmmmm, I'm not...",
"You said, Pastor do I look like I am mad to you?", Pastor Sheddy interrupted, cutting her off. Sobrina was now fully alarmed.
"Look, let me tell you. You are a true child of God. Leave Pastor Melvin alone. Stop sending him text messages",
"Wow, how did you know I send him text messages?",
"I personally asked him to be reporting to me now",
"And this is how you take it? Did I say anything wrong in the texts?",
"Look he belongs to my sister, he even visited Bosgon last week",
"The only time he came to this city was when we all met at the restaurant few months ago",
"Look woman, leave him alone and stop coming to my church. You are not my sheep", he shouted, with fire in his eyes.
Sobrina had seen that weird action before - his sister had confronted her back in Gracedome - and she wasn't going to take this nonsense a second time.
"Look, Pastor Sheddy tell your sister, it is impossible for her to reap where she didn't sow. I won't leave Pastor Melvin for her, and I think someone needs to see what you are doing", Sobrina responded in disgust, and ran into the building to bring a witness.
When she returned, Pastor Sheddy was gone. She searched around and found him talking to a group of people at another corner of the building. She dragged the young man she'd taken from the auditorium towards him.
"Sobrina this is my sheep", Pastor Sheddy began as soon as he saw them. "This lady confronted me, she told me that Pastor Melvin is her husband", he continued. "She also rained insults on me, and said how the Holy Spirit had revealed many things to her about my church", he concluded.
The man Sobrina had brought was one of the old members of the Fellowship, who now lived with his wife and son in Bosgon. He was also a close friend to Pastor Melvin, and now a serious dedicated member of the underside community of the christocentric family. Therefore the name and the whole affair wasn't strange to him.
Unknowing to Sobrina, Pastor Melvin had even informed the man about his intentions of getting married to Pastor Sheddy's sister.
"Is that so Sobrina", the man gently questioned.
"He's lying sir, he actually confronted me and said I was mad, and shouldn't come to his church again. I only brought you here to witness this", Sobrina responded, thinking she was in a sane environment.
Pastor Sheddy lost his anger and tried to grab Sobrina. Sobrina ran out of the building towards the buststop, where a police check point was located. She introduced herself to one of the Police men, and informed him briefly about what was happening.
The Police man followed her to the church, and warned Pastor Sheddy never to lay a hand on Sobrina, no matter what.
Sobrina arrived home later that day feeling victorious. She found that the door to their apartment was ajar, and the padlock on the protector was locked, but not in the way she'd left it before leaving. The keys to the padlock was also lying on the open concrete floor, as if someone had left the house in so much hurry.
It happened that Pastor Sheddy had made a call to the men watching Sobrina's house from an uncompleted three storey building nearby, after Sobrina had left him and the other man briefly, before she returned with an armed Police man.
"Is anyone in that house?", he had questioned.
"No sir, nobody don return", the leader responded in Pidgin.
"Good, go in and wait for Sobrina", he had commanded. Sobrina was no a stranger to the men by now. "She's on her way home right now. Kill her and make any other person a collateral damage", he had commanded.
"Yes sir", as he ended the call.
"It hasn't gotten to this", the other man Sobrina had left with him had been pleading, when Sobrina had returned with the Police man.
"Oh yes it has", he had been saying when he had seen the new arrival.
He had called off the attempt, after Sobrina and the Police man had left the church premises. The would-be assassin had left in a hurry - after retrieving the note from under the sofa as Pastor Sheddy had directed - thinking Sobrina was returning with the armed Police man.
Sobrina carefully entered her home and made sure nothing was missing.
"Did anyone return while we were in church?", she questioned everyone, one after the other, later when they returned and no one agreed they'd returned to the house. She reported what she had found on returning, and everyone agreed that they would stop leaving their keys around the house.
Sobrina also texted Pastor Sheddy, "so this is how desperate you people are, what a shame for a grown man such as yourself and who claims to be a pastor to be fighting over a man. Well, I will keep attending church at Saint's Perfection", she wrote.
"I wanted to help you, but I've seen you are beyond help. Leave Pastor Melvin alone you witch", Pastor Sheddy responded.
Pastor Sheddy gave up on attacking Sobrina, and ordered Pastor Davies to enforce Pastor Melvin's marriage to his sister at once.
