Chapter 81 DREAMER
Sobrina had been sitting quietly in church that faithful morning, studying her Bible. It was the custom of Saint's Perfection to do so during church service. Their Sunday routine was a quite different one, it started with prayers and when the prayer section ended, came the moment when everyone is asked to sit down and quietly study their Bibles or Word notes - a book used for taking down important facts during Pastor's sermon - for about thirty minutes, before the commencement of other church activities.
Sobrina had been studying 1 Corinthians 13, trying to give herself all the godly reasons, with which to keep loving her man in the midst of numerous uncertainties.
She'd had two dreams that morning before church, the first was where she saw herself and Miraya exchanging blows over Pastor Melvin. She defeated Miraya, and Pastor Melvin hugged her, congratulating her. He was very happy and also gave Miraya some kicks of his own, where she lay on the ground in pains, before they left the premises hand in hand.
The second was where she saw herself in a gathering. It was as if she was attending a youth summit or conference. Pastor Melvin came to her and called her aside.
"Soby, I have a question for you",
"What question, Pastor Melvin?", she had responded. He had been going down on one knee, putting his right hand in his pocket, when Sobrina ran away in shock.
She ran towards the ladies rest room and entered in, she came out after she'd steadied herself, and there he stood, outside the entrance to the rest room.
"Soby, why did you run away from me?",
"I... What... What were you trying to do?", she stammered in response.
"Look Soby, I've known you my entire adult life. We've been through hell together. We've grown together, and now we've arrive together. Soby, nothing will make me more happy than to have you spend the rest of your life with me", he had said.
She had bursted into tears and had helped him stand. He had gradually bent on one knee while making the speech. She hugged him, and they began to weep in each other's arms.
"I thought I wasn't good enough for you", she murmured.
"Oh Soby, that's because you're looking older right now. Don't worry, I understand you've been through a lot. With time, you'll refresh and shine forward. And you will always be good for me", he had responded.
He also gave her a beautiful glittering diamond engagement ring, and they walked hand in hand happily into the youth gathering.
Sobrina had awoke with a smile.
All the while this man had been tormenting Sobrina, saying one thing and doing another, or murdering her from behind, and smiling in her presence, up to the time he'd deceived her in the night, and broke another news the following day in front of Pastor Sheddy, and after she recovered from the brief madness, Sobrina never stopped texting Pastor Melvin - there was always something to text about - once in the morning and once before bed. She texted him about every single occurrence in her life, hiding nothing from him.
She had also happily texted him that Sunday morning, about the second dream before she left for church. She saw the dream as a sign that God was answering her prayers and bringing her heart's desire to fruition. She also used one of Pastor Melvin's pictures - the one he had taken for her, during one of his visits to Lagunde, and had sent it with the a message, "for you and my unborn children" - as her little cell phone's screen wall paper. She had done so because she didn't want anything to stop her from loving her man. She advised herself that there were years when she had wanted to leave him, when she had done everything in her power to break the relationship, but he didn't allow it. Therefore she wasn't going to leave him now.
In fact, she had gradually developed the attitude of monitoring him on social media, using different accounts, and contacting any lady she thought was fixated on her man, warning them to let him be. Just like he had done to her for many years.
She thought it was what needed to be done right around now, when he seemed to be the one trying to leave her. She also contacted Miraya after her brother - Pastor Sheddy - began to make Saint's Perfection hell for her. When ever he finished dealing terribly with her during church service, she would go home and rain insults - in retaliation - on Miraya through text messages.
It usually made Pastor Sheddy mad, but he had decided to be more careful, since after the warning from the strange Police man.
She finished studying her Bible that morning and opened her cell phone, she scrolled through her pictures, just trying to be busy before the church activities for the day, started. She didn't notice when Pastor Melvin and his new wife walked into the church gathering.
She looked up from her cell phone later, and decided to look around her surroundings, she was shocked to find him in their midst. She had been dreaming of the day she would go to church to find him there - Saint's Perfection was the only Christocentric church in Bosgon.
She smiled happily before she noticed there was a lady standing beside him, who was putting on exactly the same Ankara attire he was putting on.
"Please rise", the song leader was saying.
She stood and took a better look at who the lady was, and to her greatest amazement, it was Miraya.
Sobrina felt like a Boiling water had been poured on her head, she tried but couldn't control her emotions.
She decided to pick up her cell phone and gently walk outside. Some of the ladies who were well informed about the situation, who had also attended the traditional marriage over the weekend, were watching her carefully, laughing in their minds. Of course, they were well grounded members of the underside of the church, also known collectively - cutting across states, regions and gender - as Christocentrism or Men in Christ.
