Appointment
“Never ignore a person, who loves you, cares for you, and misses you, because one day you might wake up and realize, you lost the moon while counting the stars.”
I saw him staring at me with his alluring forest greens with such intensity that they literally caged my honey browns. My cheeks started heating up, no matter how much I tried I couldn't look away and I was shocked when I realized, I didn't even want to.
Our staring moment was interrupted by Alexander calling my name, "Rose," but the way Xavier held my gaze was so magnetizing that I wasn't able to revert back my attention. When Xavier himself looked away from me towards his son, I was finally able to look at Alex too, "Yes?" I asked.
"Can I stay here with you?" He asked, innocence reflecting in his honey browns.
I wonder why he hadn't inherited his father's eyes.
"Rose, can I?" He asked again, setting his hair off of his eyes.
Smiling at him, "Of course, if your daddy allows you to be here." I said, running my hand through his hair and setting them in process.
His gaze landed on Xavier who had an amused smile on his face, "What about your school today?"
"Today is a holiday, please Daddy I don't want to go," Alex whined like a little kid; well, he was a kid but behaved like a five-year-old.
Smiling a bit, I looked at Xavier, "Let him enjoy, and it's past his school time also." I spoke.
Xavier had his tough features on, but I could see the hidden amusement in his eyes, "Daddy!" Alex whined, again!
To which, Xavier held his hands in defense as he said, "Okay-okay! You win, but tomorrow. No arguments, understand?"
Alex nodded his head furiously, "Yes, understood."
Xavier and I shared a laugh, and then he asked, "So Rose tell me something about you," Xavier asked whilst leaning forward on the table as he crossed his arms and looked at me like he was genuinely interested in my life.
"I can't actually tell much since I don't remember most of my life," I confessed while grabbing my Rose pendant nervously. Xavier glanced at my hand tugging the pendant and smiled like he knew something that I didn't.
"You have amnesia?" He asked.
Nodding in reply, "For me, my life started five years ago in a hospital where I met Aiden, he told me I was in a car accident back in New York. Thank god he pulled me out before the car busted up in flames." I said, remembering the horrible day when he told me everything.
I shook my head to clear every thought and saw Xavier's eyes turn blackish-green in anger and his jaw clenched tightly while his hands balled up in fists by his side.
'Why was he angry?' I thought.
Breathing out, "Anyways, Aiden and my kid-" I was cut off by my phone's ringtone, pulling out my phone I saw Aiden's name flashing on the screen.
I looked at Xavier apologetically, who had mixed expressions on his face, "Hey… yeah... I'm waiting. Yeah... bye."
Ending the call, I looked at Alex, "Alex?" He looked up at me, "How about I meet you at your house?" I was a bit hesitant.
His features saddened, "You're leaving again?" He asked as his voice was low.
I don't know but every time I look at this child, I feel immensely attached to him. I even don't know what he had gone through, but I could never see him hurt.
Sliding my arm around his shoulders, I pulled him to my right side, "No, I have a very important appointment. After finishing it, I'll meet you at your house. Remember I've got a party to attend?" I asked.
Tilting his head, "You're coming?" He asked excitedly.
"Yes, I am," I replied in the exact same pitch. "Let me tell you a secret," I said, nearing his ear, "I don't miss parties," I whispered.
When I looked at Xavier, he indeed had his eyes on us, but his mind was lost in his own thoughts. I cleared my throat which caught his attention, "I'm sorry, I have to go… I have an important appointment." Informing him, I saw his expression change from lost to confused.
"Yeah-yeah... it's alright." And he chose not to ask any further questions related to which appointment I was talking about.
Fine enough.
I stood up from my seat as Xavier too stood up, "I guess I'll see you tonight?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck.
Nodding in affirmation, "You will." I smiled.
I heard the sound of a car honking, ``It must be Aiden…" I thought.
Glancing at Alex, I leaned down and kissed his forehead, "Take care, I'll see you tonight." I said to which he replied with a kiss on the cheek, saying, "You too, Rose."
"See you tonight," I said to Xavier and walked towards the exit.
Before pulling the door, I glanced back and found Xavier already looking at me with his hands in his pockets.
Why does he always have an expression like he wants to say something but he's holding himself back?
I smiled and turned around to leave, walking out of the café, I found Aiden's car parked as he waved his hand in my direction.
Reaching his car, I buckled myself while he asked, "How are you feeling?" Asked Aiden, looking at me.
"Fine, let's see what the doctor has to say," I said, shrugging my shoulders.
Aiden chuckled and started driving toward the hospital.
Soon we reached Dr. Sanderson's office, the lady doctor who handled my case five years back. Sitting patiently, I waited for my reports, "Ms. Clinton," I looked up from the magazine I was flipping absent-mindedly and stood up while keeping it back on the table.
"Dr. Sanderson would like to see you." He spoke.
Aiden and I followed him toward Dr. Sanderson's cabin and sat down in front of her.
"What's in the reports, Dr?" Aiden asked impatiently.
"There is nothing you need to worry about. It is very normal for a patient like Miss Clinton," looking at me, "you can take your medication whenever you feel pain." She smiled, handing me the reports.
When we were about to leave, Dr. Sanderson made Aiden stay back for a while and asked me to leave the cabin as she had to discuss something with him in private.
Nodding, I exited the cabin and waited for a while when Aiden came back with a look of anger, confusion, scared, stepping towards him, I placed my hand against his forearm and asked, "Aiden?"
"Let's go," he said, pulling off a blank face as he held my hand in his and pulled me towards the car.
"What's wrong, Aiden?" I asked again but this man continued to ignore my questions.
Sighing in defeat, I sat in the car silently till we reached my apartment. All along the journey, I saw him clenching his jaw again and again while gripping the steering tightly.
But the thing he said next made me more confused, "We're not going to the party tonight."
