Chapter 104 The Disgusted Bane
Bane Reed, good for you!
Bert drove away from the house in the sports car, then turned back toward the road, and after a while his eyes fell on the thin figure at the side of the road, who was walking slowly, and then with a deep, shallow pace.
Her right ankle was so swollen that she had jumped from the window and had fallen so badly that the way she walked now felt like she was walking on the edge of a knife. Each step was excruciating pain.
The wounds on her back had not been properly treated, and she had covered them with her clothes, so as long as she moved, the wounds on her back would be pulled by the clothes.
Bane was about to give up, but she had to keep walking, knowing that Norton and Sophie were waiting for her.
All her belongings were taken from her and she was locked up without food or water.
Jumping out of the window was the only way she could go, but she remembered the way to the Hall.
Just then a headlight fell on her. The sudden glare made Bane's eyes squint, and the next moment there was a screech of brakes and the occupants stepped down.
'What on earth have you been doing, Bane Reed?
The sound was familiar, and Bane paused. The headlights were out now, so she could see the man in front of her.
Bert Ron!
'How late it is! You don't want to come back? !"
Bert was about to scold Bane, but for a moment he saw the great discomfiting Bane looked, and then his brow tightened as well. "What do you look like? He didn't even know to send you back?"
Bert walked up to Bane, put his hands over Bane's shoulders, and looked straight at Bane with anger on his face.
The next second, a piece of software fell in his arms.
Bane was stretched to the limit, and leaned directly into Bert's arms, panting. Her ankle hurt, her body hurt, and her heart, too, felt stabbed by the knife.
The moment she met Bert, the pain and injustice she had endured all the way began to flood her eyes with tears.
Bert started for a moment when he felt Bane's tears, but quickly recovered and tried to push Bane aside, only to be held closer by Bane.
"Don't... Don't push me away!"
She must be ugly, the way she was, and he didn't want to be seen.
"Please, don't push me away... I need a break... Just a second really..."
Bert gasped for a moment at Bane's sobs. He did not push Bane again, but he said nothing.
Bane tried to stifle her tears, but Nussy, breathing for air, finally stifled them. She raised her head, looked at Bert's wet lapel, and whispered, "I'm sorry, I... I'll clean it up."
Bert looked at her and said directly, "What is the matter with you? Someone bullied you?"
Bane almost burst into tears again as she clenched her back teeth and said, "It's okay. I'm not being bullied."
Is he going to defend Ward Jonathan after all this?
Is that how you want to protect him?
Bert felt at once like a joke that he had come out to ask for her.
'Bane Reed, you lied to me!
'No, I haven't! Nobody really bullied me."
Bert croaked his mouth, a hint of mockery rose to his face, and he climbed directly into the car, seeing that she did not follow him. "Going alone?"
Bane quickly got into the passenger seat, but she was sitting in a strange position, with her back straight and not leaning down, looking very confused.
Bert felt a little strange, and said simply, "Don't put on your coat. Take it off."
It was summer and she was wearing a coat.
Then he dressed. "I'm not hot," he said. "Let's go.
"And you know the children are waiting for you? I thought you didn't know."
Bane pretended not to understand this sarcastic remark, and bowed his head without saying a word.
Because of this last bit of dignity, she wanted to keep it.
'Bane Reed! Take off your coat, I don't want to do it myself!"
Bane turned pale and said hoarsely, "Bert Ron, not here, I, let's go back..."
Bert went for a moment at Bane's words, and quickly caught up to them, and saw what they meant, and his face darkened.
He does take a great interest in her, but he's a man, not an animal! How could you do that to her when she was in such a mess?
What's more, have been touched by other men!
"You don't have to dress like that. I know you want to stop the trail. Go down, and if you insist on wearing it, then don't be my car."
He couldn't believe she would walk with her ankle so bad.
But he didn't expect it. Bane hesitated, opened the door, and got down.
Bert slammed the steering wheel hard, then pressed down on the accelerator and left without stopping for half a minute.
Seeing Bert go straight away, she could not help smiling bitterly, and shuffling along again.
She had resigned herself to the fact that she would give Bert her battered body if he wanted it. It would not be the first time, anyway, because she wanted to stay at the Hall, and there must be a price to pay for being near Sophie and Norton, so she did not complain about the injustice of the world.
But now she really can't.
Her wounds were all over her, and the sight of them would make her sick, and it would take away what little value she had left on the farm.
Bane's shadow lengthened in the moonlight, and she stumbled along the road, looking as if she might fall at any moment.
After driving for a while, Bert slammed on the brakes in a fury, and the car stopped in the middle, and it was some time before he turned the car around.
His face was sullen, he skidded to a halt in front of Bane, and then, ignoring anything else, he put Bane in the passenger seat.
She's Bert's woman, no matter what! Bane never wants a farm again! She's got to be locked up, if she's locked up.
If she's thinking about Ward Jonathan, he'll just break her leg!
"Bane Reed, you..."
He was about to say something when Bane's face went white and her eyes closed and her lips were bitten.
Bert began to panic. "Bane Reed! Wake up!"
