Chapter 13 getting a promotion
“Look grace I have an offer for you, I fired my assistant yesterday and I need someone urgently to fill up the position. Do you think you would be game for this? Of course, the salary would be good, thrice what you make as a waitress a month, and then there are of course allowances.” By the time Alex was done, grace was looking at him wide-eyed. To be honest, this offer tempted her by a big degree, what with her baby coming. And they had house allowances and travel allowances, she would be a fool for declining such an offer.
Looking into his eyes and poker face, she was however sure that the offer had to have an underlying reason, otherwise, why give her such a job. Besides, working as a personal assistant to him, while still pregnant might be too much for her. She needed time to think this through before accepting. Making up her mind she requested some time to think. Alex had to shut his mind up before his mouth opened and ruined that opportunity. He would be patient and very soon, she would be there, writhing beneath him, her supple curves filling his hands.
She opened the door and moved out. Closing the door softly, she raced to the restroom where she stood and leaned on the door, taking breathing exercises to calm down. She had thought that she had somehow tamed her attraction to Alex but it seemed as though she was nowhere over desiring him. And then the sexy way he had smiled at her, his eloquence, his milky white teeth set against his chocolate skin. He looked handsome and then he had given her an opportunity to better her life. The only question would be whether it was possible to maintain a working relationship with him without getting blurred by her sexual desires.
She could think over this and maybe tomorrow, she would have an answer. She had to weigh the pros and cons. That night, she turned and tossed, weighing her options. she knew that if she wanted, she could do the job, be very professional while catering to her and her baby’s needs. But then, the thought of meeting those striking eyes every day, looking at her like she was the most delectable dessert on the table, could she bear it.
Coming to work the following day, saw a very determined and confident grace stride into Alex’s office. “Good morning sir,” grace said as she moved to occupy the offered seat. “Good morning to you too grace, I trust you have a positive answer?” Alex said as he fixed his piercing eyes at her. Gulping loudly, she aimed for a vocal yes, and was proud when her voice didn’t show the nerves she felt. Standing up, they sealed the deal with a handshake, while Alex commanded that she move to the upper floor, where she would be near his office.
After grace accepted to work as his personal assistant, Alex’s mind relaxed and he could now focus on the pressing issue of money lose from the hotel. He had thought things over and a little investigating proved that this had been something that had gone on for quite some time. He probably needed to hire an external auditor and an investigator to get the facts right. Looking at grace, he knew she was trustworthy; besides he had looked at her portfolio after asking her to work for him and he loved what he had seen.
Arranging his office to fit in two desks, he moved his desk and seat to be right behind a mirror that gave a view of the whole city. His couch was also moved to occupy one end of the office and by the time he was done, there was enough space. His previous secretary had had her own space just outside his office but he wanted grace even nearer. That day grace moved in, arranging her things, placing a photo of herself and another girl on her desk just to add a touch of ownership.
Together, they went through some of the things he expected her to know, and then showed the location of some of the files. Afterward, he left her to give her the opportunity to familiarize herself with most of the things expected of her. The rest of the moment was spent in a comfortable harmony, only broken by some questions from grace and his instructions towards some things.
Picking his office phone, he dialed and called Marx, he would know what to do with the situation surrounding him at work. Marx picked on his first call and the bastard had the nerve to start off by teasing him about being left on the dancing site. Wait how had that come up, Alex had thought that his friends had left for home, but apparently, someone had sneaked upon him. “Who told you this,” Alex growled into his phone, cursing whoever had seen him? ‘We all did man; we had just moved out when Fred decided that he had forgotten something in the room. As he came back, what did he see but you all entangled in a woman, looking at her as though she was your last saving straw.
Of course, the bastard recorded everything and sent it to us. Just so you see how you looked; I will send you the video. That was truly a first, I mean she left you by yourself. sorry man.” The sorry bastard said sorry but he could hear a muffled laugh. Deciding to push all that behind him, he proceeded to tell his friend the main reason he had called him. ‘So, is it possible to get someone to help me out here?’
