Chapter 16 house warming party
Getting there, he left instructions that she not come for work the following day so as to facilitate her moving out, Alex then gave her a credit card. The card was to be used to purchase some official clothes as she was now ‘company property’ as Alex said. Trying to argue out spending company money on her clothes had been a failed course and she could only accept things as they had been.
That night, grace slept soundly, there were no nightmares or any those half-baked dreams. No, she had slept peacefully and serenely. She did not know why but maybe it had to do with the fact that she had a way through the coming stages. Deciding that she would make sure she was the best personal assistant to Alex, she slept off.
Hearing the alarm cry in the morning had resulted in a slam of the device, pulling her blankets closer, she was staying home for the day. When sunlight eventually made the bed too uncomfortable as anna had done the honors of drawing her curtains she got up. Rolling out she dragged herself first to the bathroom. Here she splashed some cool water onto her face, then went on to brush her teeth.
She decided to make some lemon tea as she had woken up feeling quite nauseous. After a light breakfast, grace went on to get her bag, where in under two hours she had had everything packed and ready for moving. Driving her baby right to the place, she went to the reception where she was given her keys. Opening the door, she moved straight to her bedroom. There she went to the walk-in closet. She could remember how flabbergasted she had been the day before, walking into such a large closet. Could she ever fill that thing?
Unpacking her clothes, she hanged them on the closet and decided that she would first have a bath. Looking at the large bathtub and the large screen staring at her she felt like she was in a movie. She filled the bathtub with warm water and dropped in to just soak in the bubbles. Sitting back on the seat in the bathtub, she relaxed her mind, and she could feel the tension escaping. While here, she planned her activities for the rest of the day. First, she would dress, then go out and have something to eat because apparently her stomach was becoming quite small.
Dressing up, she locked her house n went out. Just along the street there was a small hotel, where she stopped by to get something. As she was eating, she thought of having a small housewarming party with her friend and called her. Thereafter, feeling refreshed she walked the distance to the nearest clothes mall. All the clothes on the mannequins looked so colorful and inviting she had trouble choosing where to start.
An assistant came over to assist her, first they went to the skirts section and got several official skirts. She bought four of them, in red, black, navy blue and purple. They were pencil skirts that had a zipper at the back and a long slit at her back. In the dressing room, looking at herself she felt flabbergasted, the skirts fit her like gloves and thankfully, they were made from a stretchy, material which made them comfortable.
Thereafter, she went on to try lots of dresses, while making sure to choose some sophisticated suits that spelt power, and dresses that made her feel like a career woman. At some point in her life, she remembered that she had envisioned herself wearing some black power suit and commanding the attention of the whole room, when had her ambitions decreased so much to living off a boyfriend.
Come what may, her shopping spree was satisfactory, after that, she went on to the market for some fresh greens and meat. Today, she felt full on cooking mode and she planned on doing it wholeheartedly. Unexpectedly, she liked trying out new things and she had fallen in love with many African dishes. Back at home, she looked at her pristine kitchen and she could not help but feel fired to start work. So, settling everything in the appropriate shelves, some in the fridge like the greens, she got to work. Today she had decided to make something spicy and light at the same time.
She planned on having a full out dinner and her preparations began with making dessert. Grace had decided on having something sweet for the desert, and remembering a cake recipe she had learned online she was quick to try it. Thankfully the kitchen appliances were topnotch and, in a few minutes, she was deeply engrossed in her work. She wanted to make a vanilla flavored small cake, sprinkled with some chocolate flakes just to reduce the sugary taste.
With the cake baking in the oven, she started on her main dish. Today, she had decided on making some rice mixed with meat. In Kenya, this was basically called pilau. In all honesty, grace had been obsessed with Kenyan food so much that after her friend showed her a few recipes, she ended up googling several other recipes. Somehow, she had fallen in love with the Kenyan cuisine and she could not explain it. Chopping the garlic was followed by grinding of the ginger in a pot and pestle. Afterwards she chopped some onions and setting on a pan on the fire, warmed some oil. When the oil was hot enough, she poured the three ingredients together to properly cook them. Feeling the wafting smell, she relaxed as she continued stirring.
