Chapter 27 receiving threats
Time seemed to pass in ablur the following week they had been at work. The investigations into the money laundering deal were still in progress, the only downside being that after the fund drive, grace had been receiving threats from an anonymous person. At first, she had taken them lightly, until she had found pictures of her and her tummy sent in a box. The central part of her tummy had been cut off and her face had been disfigured. The sight of such had sent chills down her back and all the while she worried, she was in danger from someone she did not know.
It had been okay when it had just been words and she had not actually bothered with it. But now, it bordered on being psychotic. Maybe there was a killer out there on a trail behind her. one of these days the package had winded up being sent to her office and when Alex chanced upon it, he had been angry. “Grace for how long have you been receiving these threats? And why didn’t you tell me about it? This could be dangerous.”
“Okay first of I’m sorry at that time I did not think it was that important, but as I look at it now, this has gone on for nearly a month sir. I wanted to actually go and report it to the police because whoever sends the threats has gotten worse off.”
She did not know why but looking at Alex worry over her had been sexy as hell. Here was a man, bigger than life itself worrying about her. simply abandoned grace, what had the earth turned into. It was at that moment, that the lady hired to do the investigation got inside the office to give an answer. She had been on this case for a little over a month now, interviewing each and every person within the building who has worked long enough for the company.
She had even had to follow up on some of those employees who were no longer working there and what she found out surprised her. the place had been rotten and oozing with pus. The sinister plots and plans had been well executed that if she had not had an extraordinary investigatory sense, she would have jumped right across the answers right before her eyes.
Placing some papers in Infront of them, she dived right into what she had found out. In detail, the entire amount of money siphoned from the hotel was laid out there. The figure was not just the millions he had thought of, no, it was more like around thirty million. Slowly, the money had been siphoned off to offshore banks under alias names in different parts of the world. The work had been done in such a way that tracing the money to the source had been hard.
Deals were made such that cash was paid for tenders not delivered. In the process of managing many assets and his father being occasionally sick, most of the stealing had taken place. If this had been a teaser, the identity of the perpetrators had left his mouth dry with surprise and astonishment. Trying to talk, he could not say anything because his mind was empty. This had been the cooperation of two people; the secretary having been at the forefront. Alex knew that the secretary had been already fired but he could not help the anger he felt building up when he thought of the betrayal that had taken place within the institution.
Even though he had had an inkling as to who might have done the deed, he still felt upset when it was confirmed that Martin had been part of it. Martin and the secretary Stacy had been an item.
This had been before Alex got there and got in between their business of not just siphoning money, but also being lovers. His father had been too trusting of how workers that he had not thought something like that could ever happen in his company. What had made the whole investigative process easier was the fact that Stacy no longer worked there.
First, she had met with every worker in the hotel in a span of two weeks. Then she had requested permission to check everyone’s workstation and details. What had gotten her suspicious had been the note he had found at martin’s dustbin. It had been a note signed to one of the alias names that she had found money paid to for a tender delivered.
Hi Martin, I hope you have been fine. Why have you not been returning my calls when I’ve done everything you’ve asked of me. Right now, I’m even out of work and I need money urgently. Can I please withdraw from our account? Please get back to me.
Yours TJ
