Chapter 3 getting a job
That Monday she got up early and prepared herself to go to the hotel. Getting there, she felt intimidated, the hotel was grand, splashed in white color, most of the outer expanse covered with mirrors. She really did hope she could start well and be able to manage for herself and her baby. Taking a deep breath, she entered the hotel surroundings and went to the receptionist. She was a blonde petite beautiful lady who was heavily made up and had a quite haughty look.
Grace hated these kinds of people the most but she still propelled herself to her and asked for directions to meet with Allan McKnight, who was the human resource manager. Grace felt irritated as the receptionist took her time, looking her from the top to the bottom, eyes full of ridicule. She knew she was not the best dressed, but she still warranted respect as a human being.
Getting into Allan’s office she tried taking deep breaths to offset her anger. She did not know why but recently; she had been snapping very easily and tears came quickly. When she lifted her eyes towards the desk, she was met with the gentle eyes of Allan, who looked to be around fifty years of age. The hair around his temples had started whitening, but still, he looked arresting and joyous. The kind of a person you can find yourself confiding in very quickly. Ushering her to her seat, Allan surprised her by hugging her and at that moment she felt peace. Peace like a river over her aching soul and mind. Tears almost fell, clouding her eyes but that had not been the time to be emotional.
Sitting down, they got into the business, and after a short while, having answered questions that hardly felt like an interview, she had a job as a waitress. She could not stop her beaming smile even if she wanted to. The success of the first step filled her with faith and hope for a better tomorrow. Full of excitement, she did not even bother with the elevator and instead found herself moving towards the ground floor through the stairs. Swinging with a flair and a distinct hop in her steps, she had to literally hold her hand against her mouth to keep the shout and laughter bubbling within her.
The next thing she knew was that she had hit the wall. A dark tall wall, and now that she saw better, it was a man. Dressed immaculately in a three-piece suit. The suit was black and currently, a dark handheld her lighter one in a strong grip against a hard chest.
Alex pulled himself out of the swimming pool in one motion, the water cascading against his washboard abs. Blowing the flowing water, he raised his toned arms to wipe away the residual water from his face. Looking at him, one could see a young man, dark in color, and handsome to the boots. He was what you would call tall, dark, and handsome. Adding to this very advantage of being sexy as sin, he was loaded. He was the son of billionaire Adam Wood, a successful entrepreneur who started a chain of hotels that were spread out in three continents now.
The hotels were under the name Eden Gardens and they pictured the very essence of comfort and relaxation. These hotels were constructed under a theme of sustainability as well as catering to comfortability. Most of the hotels were situated in tropical areas, surrounded by a blast of green. They were the best holiday destinations, having been started from a small business.
As Alex walked, his phone rang, and picking it up, he realized that it was his father. In truth, his father had already started showing signs of growing old, his frequent heart attacks had been disturbing. “Hi dad how are you,” Alex said as he walked right into his room. It had been a long time since they had last talked. He had been a man who liked his fun, he partied and satisfied his very healthy libido. Since he completed his university studies, he had moved out of his father’s mansion, moving to stay by himself in his own apartment.
Since his father rarely called, he knew that there had to be a reason for the call. They exchanged a few pleasantries and his father ended up asking him to visit. Two days later, Alex got home, hugging his nanny, Mary, currently a fifty-five-year-old very motherly woman. She was his second mother, having taken care of him right from his birth. Kissing her on her cheeks, he walked up the stairs, straight to his father’s study. Getting there, he was surprised not to find him there, it was strange because his father basically lived there.
Moving out of the room he went to Mary where he asked where he was. Mary’s face changed and she looked troubled. Seeing the changes in her face, Alex could not help but think of every bad case scenario. “Your father had a stroke this morning, he was taken to the hospital and he is currently in the hospital.” That hit him deep in his guts that he had to struggle to remain standing. After getting the name of the hospital, he swiftly revved his car and moved towards St. George private hospital. In reality, this was a hospital for the rich, the wards instead looked like living rooms, furnished with a bed, a couch, and a table.
