Chapter 7
Meeting Cayne's parents were the perfect definition of the word 'awkward'. However, his father eventually took a great liking to me. His mother on the other hand seemed to hate me. We were sitting around in a spacious living room. To my horror, Cayne introduced me as his wife that shocked her mother. She looked at me with so much disgrace and like she wanted to tear me to death.
"Cayne, what do you mean wife?" His mother asked with a horrifying voice.
"You heard me, mom," Cayne answered annoyingly.
"But why didn't you tell us. We are your parents. How could you do this to us?" She says acting hurt.
"It's because I know you would stop it. And I wouldn't let that happen, that's why we secretly married."
"What about Anica?" His mother asked.
Anica? Anica Clark? The girl I saw last time in a newspaper with Cayne. She's his secretary, right? My God. He's dating his employee?
I internally rolled my eyes and just basically pretended that she wasn't saying anything. If she thought bringing up Anica would piss me to death, she had another thing coming. My God. I don't even feel a single pain in my chest for what she had said. The hell I care with them. She wasn't in the loop and didn't know that I and her dear baby boy weren't really together.
"You know I really didn't date Anica, mom," Cayne looked extremely annoyed.
"Well, I always thought you should. She is a wonderful lady after all." His mother shot a look at me and force a smile. "So, Raszhiel darling, what do you do for a living?"
"I'm still trying to find one, ma'am," I said.
"So you mean, you are jobless?" She said sarcastically.
"Yes, I am. But as I've said, ma'am. I'm still trying to look for one." It took every ounce of strength in my body to refrain myself from rolling my eyes.
"But she's planning to work in Anton's Inc. As a fashion designer," Cayne said that made me look at him.
Fashion designer his ass.
"Really? So you will work with Richie, I've heard that he had so many affairs with his female workers. It makes me wonder how will you be able to get hired."
I raised my eyebrows at what she said. Wow. His mother has an evil tongue.
"Mom!" Cayne yelled, his face was livid as he stared at his mother.
"Monique, that's enough," Cayne's father- who preferred to be called Julio - intervened. He frowned as well, matching Cayne's frown.
I stood up and look at her. I'm a very nice person to those people who are also nice to me. But what his mother said is below the belt. Like she was insulting my capability as a woman.
"I think I will be hired fairly ma'am. I'm talented and have the skills of an employee that a company is looking for. And I don't need to sleep with anyone just to get anything. That includes your son ma'am. So if you think that Cayne and I have been humping like rabbits, you're wrong. I don't want anything from your wealth and if you don't like me for your son, you can take him if you want. I'm not stopping you." I said with my face held high and walk away.
After I walked out I went to the garden to take some fresh air. Then Cayne suddenly came out of nowhere.
"Sorry about my mom," he apologized, shaking his head and looking very embarrassed. "I didn't know she was gonna--"
"No, it's okay," I interrupted him. "She was just looking out for you. Can't be mad at her for that."
Cayne smiled and suddenly his expression changed. Uh oh. I know that kind of look. We walked closer to me slowly. I tried to back up, but my back already hit the wall. He placed his hand on the other side of my head and then leaned forward.
"Tell me something, Raszhiel."
My heart went crazy in my chest, flipping and jumping and dancing wildly. And then his breath caressed my skin, I burned with the sensation it gives me.
"What?" I said. I was so pleased that my voice didn't tremble.
He cocked his head and asked, "How do you feel about me?"
How unexpected. I scanned my mind, searching for the answer.
"I feel grateful for you because you offered me a nice job." I chuckled nervously.
He shook his head. "I didn't ask if you were grateful to me. I'm asking what you felt about me."
I looked at him for a moment until finally, I had my answer.
"I think you're a flirt. I also think that you want to have some sex with me." I frowned.
"True and true," Cayne smiled. "I suppose do flirt a lot. But I make sure that women are comfortable with my presence. And yes, I guess it's very obvious that I want to have sex with you." He smirked. "That's no secret."
"Well, I'm not one of your bimbos, Cayne. I'm only here for the job. So I felt sorry for you."
He looked straight at me. I think I was melting under his intense gaze. I couldn't understand how eyes that were closer to ice than fire could leave my skin burning. I could understand why there are so many girls willing to jump off into the bed with him. He was sexiness personified. He is every girl's dream and fantasy. Everything you wanted to show off to everyone. But still, I couldn't let myself fall for that. I wouldn't let myself be another notch under his belt. Not again. I was once fooled by my past lover. I should have cut his dick for what he did. He's a plain stupid asshole and a motherfucker. Thinking about him and what he did makes my blood boil.
"I'm gonna go now," I whispered, slipping by him.
I fled as quickly as possible. Cayne Shelton is gonna be the death of me.
----------
The next morning I woke early, took a shower, and wore sweatpants and a crop top. I was just lying down on the edge of my bed, reading because I have nothing to do and I was so bored, when a soft knock sounded on my door. I got up and went to open it. A smiling Monique was in front of me. Oh no. Not so early, please. She grinned at me and squeeze her way in. My God! Cayne's mother is something. She looked at what I was wearing and shook her head.
"No, no, no! That simply won't do."
"What?" I looked down at my outfit and look back at her.
"Cayne and Julio are meeting some important investors for Shelton's Corp. And as far as I don't want to, you'll be coming with them so you should wear a decent outfit young lady."
"What? Why? Can't I just stay here?" I shrieked.
She looked at me while raising her eyebrows. I think she's ready to bite the hell out of me. She then smiled.
"I don't know what you did to my son and what has gotten into him to marry a woman like you. But honestly, when I first saw you I knew you are one of those little dirty letches who's trying to leech off my son's wealth," She said while walking towards me, looking at me from head to toe like I'm a very low person. Her face then slowly turned serious as she spoke again. "You have to learn how to conduct yourself at one of these events now, after all, your his wife, right?"
It was pretty funny how she thinks that Cayne and I are married. I'm pretty sure Cayne is incapable of feeling anything other than lust. Guys like him wanted to stick it anywhere and everywhere.
Her mother was shoving a bag and I hadn't noticed she was carrying it when she entered my room.
"Here, put this one. I don’t want my son to be ridiculous in front of a lot of people because of you. You are not beautiful enough for me, that's why I brought this dress to light up your face."
I didn't say anything. I'm a little bit hurt by what she had said. I stripped off and put on the clothes that Cayne's mother bought me. It was a thigh-length business-style black dress. But it wasn't boring, this dress was a knockout. The way it clung to me was loose enough to show that I am a lady but tight enough to show my womanly curves. The neckline was neither too low nor too high. The heels that she bought weren't sky scrapping heels, but they were more like a business-type.
I coughed and Cayne's mother turned away her gaze from the book that I was reading earlier. She looked at me.
"Mmm-hmm," She nodded herself. "Much better, you look like a decent person now." She sarcastically said.
She dragged me out of the room even before I could even go to the vanity mirror to put even a little makeup.
---------
Cayne kept on sneaking glances at me as the limo drove steadily down the road. His mother sat beside me, smiling like a Cheshire cat. Cayne, on the other hand, sat beside his father who was engrossed in the newspaper article he was reading. We would occasionally catch her wife's eye and give her a wink that causes her to giggle like a teenage high school girl.
When the car stop, we immediately got out. Cayne hurriedly rushes to my side. He held his hand for me and I took it. As we walk inside the fancy restaurant, I began to feel nervous and conscious about myself. I was out of my element. Decked out in Chanel and Versace with a Valentino coat slung over my shoulder.
Cayne looked at me and smiled. "Chill, just go with the flow. Pretend like we are like a real married couple. Just like what you did to mom and dad earlier."
I nodded. Cayne always seemed to know when I was uncomfortable. It was like he could right through my soul. I let out a deep breath that I was holding out for a while because of extreme nervousness.
The hostess led us to the table full of businessmen who were talking comfortably amongst themselves.
"Well, look who's here," a short fat man with a French accent greeted us. "Julio, Monique, Cayne, and...?" He trailed off, looking at me.
"Oh. Everyone, I would like you to meet my wife, Raszhiel Kein Moncada." Liam introduced me. I gave a little wave to them and greeted them back. They were a little bit shock about Cayne's introduction to me.
"Wife, you mean? We didn't know you had a beautiful wife Cayne," said by the next to the fat French. He was about the same age as Cayne. "I'm Nicholas, by the way. Nicholas Prudente."
"Enchanté, Raszhiel, the names Alvin," Alvin shook my hand and smiled warmly.
Cayne pulled out my chair. I was seated next to Nicholas. Who was looking intently at me.
After our food was served to us, the businessmen jump straight to their conversation. Surprisingly, Cayne had all the best ideas. All the men, except Nicholas of course, who was older than the two of them, seemed to trust and respect him.
Midway through our lunch, I felt a tap on my hand. I turned and met Nicholas's eyes. He jerked his chin in the direction of the bathrooms. He got up swiftly and left. Uh? What does he mean? He wants me to follow him to the bathroom?
"I'll be back," I whispered to Cayne.
He nodded and turn back to the conversation about their investments. I went in the direction of the bathroom and looked around. Did he go to the men's bathroom or the other one? I crinkled my nose. I really hoped he didn't go into the men's --
My thought was cut off when the door to the side of the building opened and a gust of wind nearly knocked me down. A hand shout out and caught my wrist, pulling me outside. I couldn't grasp or scream. I could only think the worst. What if Nicholas was some creepy pervert who had pulled me out here so he could have his way of me?
I was suddenly standing in front of Nicholas who were just looking straight at me. It was only 11 something in the afternoon but I could still feel the early morning breeze that is so sweet and calm. So maybe I had exaggerated the gust of wind just a little. But in my defense, I thought I was gonna get raped.
Nicholas had a cigarette burning between his lips. I wrinkled my nose and backed away.
His mouth curled up in what I think, was supposed to be a smile.
"Why did you want to see me?" I asked him, shifting nervously.
Something about him was intimidating. He isn't warm and friendly like Cayne. I can feel in his presence the aura of negativity. Or is it just me?
He was silent for a moment, just stared at me, "I just wanted to warn you," he finally murmured.
"Warn me?" My mind automatically shifted to blank. I hoped he didn't think I cared.
"Yes, about Anica."
Anica? Cayne's secretary. The girl that Cayne's mother talking about?
"What about her?"
Nicholas blew out a puff of smoke and threw his cancer stick to the ground and stepped on it.
"Yesterday, Anica stopped by the cafe to pick up her usual like she always does. She always asks for me to be her waiter, because she thinks that the rest of my father's employees was incompetent. So I went to take her order, as always. She asked me if Cayne was free or not. I already knew about you because I saw you last time in Cayne's car, so I had you check a little. Turns out he introduce you as his wife. So I told her that he was with you. I honestly didn't expect her to be pissed. She just suddenly stood up and left and didn't even bother to order."
I blinked at him. "And so? Why does she get pissed and left? What's so scary about that?"
He looked down at his shoes, furrowing his eyebrows. He seemed to be fighting himself. He finally looked back at me.
"Look, I know you and Cayne aren't really together. I've been his best friend since we were kids, he doesn't tell me everything but I know him more than anyone else. But I know about his sexual rendezvous with girls and also with Anica." He shook his head. "I already warned him about her, but he didn't listen. And now Anica thinks that you two are really together. Anica has a history of rubbing off people she thinks to stand between her and what she wants."
Rub off? Did he mean Anica had people killed?
"I've known her a long time now. Way longer than I've known Cayne. And I know if she thinks a woman is trying to take the man she wants, it doesn't end well," Nicholas said slowly. "If I were you, I'd stop with your plan. Leave Cayne alone so you won't get hurt. Anica is dangerous. I'd hate to see something terrible that might happen to you." Then he opened the side door and left. As for me, I was speechless at what he said.

3rd Person's POV
"So you want me to kill her?" the man asked, looking at the picture in his hand.
The woman nodded vehemently, her brunette curls bouncing.
"May I asked the reason?" The man half smirked.
"She took what is definitely mine," she hissed, her pretty-faced contorted in rage.
The guys nodded, he heard that before.
"You have the money?"
The woman handed her the envelope. He opened up and counted the money inside. He nodded in satisfaction and places the envelope in his coat pocket.
"I'll take care of your little problem." He looked at her. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Oh yes, kill that bitch already." The woman's lips pulled in a cruel grin.
"And make sure you tell her who sent you."
