FOUR WEEKS LATER
Twenty-eight days had passed since Alexander told Melinda his whole story and Neither Melinda nor Alexander had made any move. They don't even know what they are anymore. If they are still an item or not. Both of them were still very confused in their own world.
"Sorry for disturbing you, Dee. But someone is here to see you." Doris, Dee's assistant, told her.
"Thanks, Doris, you can tell the person to wait in the reception. I will be there in five minutes."
"Sure," Doris said before exiting Dee's office.
After completing what she was doing, Desourire made her way to the reception to see who was there to see her.
On getting there, she saw that it was Alexander. A sad smile made its way to her lips. She could see that Alexander looked awful. His eye bag was so evident which made his eyeball smaller.
"Alexander, it's so good to see you." She said as Alexander stood up to hug her.
"You too Dee," Alex replied with a forced smile after which they both sat down opposite each other.
"How are you, Alexander?" Dee asked with a sad face.
"I don't know how I am Dee. I honestly don't know. I feel awful." Alex replied.
"How is she?" He asked, referring to Mel as he looked at Dee with very hopeful eyes.
"Same as you. Miserable, sad, horrible, and sick." Dee replied with a sad voice and Alexander exhaled.
"I'm sorry for making her feel that way. It was never my intention. I never meant to hurt her.'" Alex said.
Dee stretched her hands and took Alex cold hands into hers "Don't be Alex, it's going to be fine." Dee assured.
"I really want to make things right. Apologize to her and make up for my mistakes but I don't think she wants to see me. Her dad told me she said she no longer needs a driver as she would be driving to work herself. So I thought maybe she needed space. And now one month has passed without me talking to her or being close to her and I feel miserable." Alex said as he tried to hold back his tears.
"All that has happened isn't your fault, Alexander. You suffered a lot too and trust me Mel feels so sad and sorry about that. The reason why she is angrier and hurt is that you failed to tell her the truth yourself. You know hearing it from Frank makes the whole situation horrible and more confusing." Dee said and Alexander nodded.
"Mel has not been in good shape either. She keeps throwing up now and then and my dear friend refuses to go to the hospital. She keeps burying herself in her office work pretending she's fine but she isn't." Dee said. She then looked straight into Alexander's eyes and continued. "Alexander, I have never doubted your love for my friend. You both really need each other to heal. I know my best friend, She can be very stubborn but I believe what you feel for her can overpower her stubbornness and pride. Fight for her Alexander. You have given her enough space. One month is enough for her to heal. Go to her and try to sort things out." Dee said.
Alexander stood up and gave Dee a friendly hug. " That's just what I needed. Thanks for your help, Dee." Alex said with a more genuine smile this time around.
...........................
Alexander drove as fast as he could to the Davis company with so much motivation to win back the love of his life.
When he got to Melinda's floor, He met Tracy.
"Hi, Tracy. Is Melinda in?" Alex asked.
"I'm sorry to tell you this Alex but I can't allow you in," Tracy said.
"Why?" He asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Melinda gave me that order," Tracy said.
"She did?" Alex asked surprised and hurt at the same time and Tracy nodded.
Alex exhaled and said. "Please Tracy, do me a favor. Can you please go and tell Mel that I would like to see her please?" Alex said with a puppy dog face and Tracy sighed.
"Okay. Just wait here. I will be right back." Tracy said.
A minute later, Tracy came out of Mel's office with a sad face and Alex already knew the answer even before Tracy could talk.
"I'm sorry Alex. She said she doesn't want to see you," Tracy said.
Alexander tried to hide his disappointment and thanked Tracy. He left the building thinking of what else he could do.
.........................
It was 8:30 pm and everyone had left the office except for a very depressed Melinda. After completing her work for the day, she finally decided to go home.
She entered her apartment, turned on the light, and proceeded to the couch in the living room where she dumped her bag and removed her heels. She then walked into her kitchen, to the fridge to get a glass of water.
Feeling very hungry, she started to search for what to eat but that was interrupted by her beeping phone.
Mel sighed as she walked out of the kitchen into the living room and reached for her phone in her handbag. She looked at the caller id and saw it was Nate. Then a sad smile crept to her face.
"Heyy," Mel said, trying to sound cheerful.
"Hey, Linda, how are you?" Nate greeted from the other side and Mel chuckled.
"I'm good, you?"
"I'm okay. Just checking on you sweetheart." Nate said.
"Thanks, Nate." Mel smiled.
"So what did the doctor say?" Nate asked. Melinda had promised him she was going to go for a check-up today but she failed to do so. Not knowing what to tell Nate, She went mute.
"You didn't go to the doctors today right?" Nate asked, Disappointment evident in his voice which made Mel feel guilty.
"I'm sorry Nate. it's just that there was a lot that needed to be attended to at work today." Mel said.
"Hiding behind work and refusing to confront your problems will do you no good Mel. You need to look after yourself also." Nate said.
"He came to see me today at work," Mel said, referring to Alexander as she ran a hand through her long hair. She didn't know why she was telling Nate but she felt like talking to someone before she went crazy.
"So did you two reconcile?" Nate asked with a hopeful voice.
"No," Mel said.
"No?" Nate asked, surprised.
"I refused to see him," Mel said.
"Melinda Viola Davis." Nate groaned her name from the other side.
"Why are you so stubborn?" He said.
"It's not that Nate. I'm just in conflict with myself." Mel justified.
"What is it, sweets? Don't you love him anymore?" Nate asked.
"Trust me, I do. I do love him so much and these past days without him have been very hard and lonely. The thing is that I feel guilty. I feel guilty for the way I shouted at him and for the way I thought of the worst things about him before hearing the whole story from him. I'm just scared of facing him again. What if he ends it all. What if he tells me he no longer wants me." Mel said, fear evident in her voice.
"Calm down Mel. You are just overthinking. Alex loves you." Nate said.
"I love him too," She whispered.
"I promise to make things right." She added.
"I hope you do. So what did you have for dinner." Nate asked, changing the subject.
"I have not eaten yet,"
"Mel." Nate groaned from the other side and Mel chuckled.
"Dude, you were the one who interrupted my dinner. I was looking for what to eat when you called me."
"Okay then. You can go have dinner, we will talk later. ''I love you."
"Thanks for calling. Love you too." Mel said as she ended the call with a smile on her face.
After eating dinner, Melinda went for a shower. Looking at herself in the mirror, She noticed her breasts looked fuller and her hips were more defined. Her face was dull and she had lost a little bit of weight. She shook all those thoughts from her head and walked into her closet to look for something comfy to wear. She continued searching and her eyes fell on a particular shirt which she recognized belonged to Alex. She removed the shirt from the hanger, brought it closer to her nose, and took in Alexander's scent.
Even if she was deceiving everyone, she couldn't deceive herself. She missed him terribly. On several occasions, she had picked her phone up and wanted to call or text him but she didn't have the courage to do so. She missed him so much.
Melinda put on his shirt and made her way to her bed. She covered herself with the duvet and started thinking of what to do. Her eyes locked with the bracelet on her wrist. she had not taken it off since the day he gave it to her. She then decided she could no longer avoid him. "Life is too short to be unhappy Mel." She said to herself.
