"Tamantha! I'm glad you are back! What happened? Why did they take you to the precinct? I thought you won the credit card money. Did you bring it back? Who bailed you?"
Before I even answer all of Lindsey's questions. I went directly to the kitchen and grabbed myself a bottle of water, and drank it until it was gone without even breathing through my mouth.
I sigh after I finish it all. I feel so complete now, just with water.
I didn't know Lindsey followed me. She is in front of me with a confused look on her face. She was waiting for me to explain everything about her.
I know that she is worried because of what happened. I'm also concerned for myself, but how can I tell her everything about it?
Weston's words echoed in my mind. I can't tell anyone about our accidental marriage, or it will end me.
But what would I tell her?
"Tamantha!"
"What?" I asked.
"What do you mean? Speak now! Tell me what happened," she said and sat on the chair near the kitchen table.
"Nothing happened," I said and walked past her. I'm sure that she watched me pass by. I walked outside the kitchen and sat on the couch.
"What do you mean nothing happened? The police went here and asked you to come with them! He arrested you, and nothing happened?"
I sighed.
Damn, Lindsey won't let this slip up.
I need an excuse.
"It was wrong."
"Huh?"
"They mistake me for somebody else who took someone else's card. It wasn't me. They are wrong, but we settled it after I explained everything."
"But you did have a credit card from someone, right?"
"Yes," I said.
"So it is still yours?"
"Yes."
"And the police randomly mistake you for stealing a credit card?"
"That's what I said, Lindsey."
"Can you hear yourself right now, Tamantha? They wasted your time. They mistake you as a criminal for stealing a credit card even if you don't. And you didn't do anything about it? That's fucked up, Tamantha. I can't believe you didn't do anything!"
"What can I do? It was all a mistake."
Her eyes squinted. "Yeah, I'm sure it is a mistake."
"It is," I said casually.
She nodded and walked towards the bedroom.
Lindsey has been my best friend ever since. She knows all of my secrets and everything. Even the way I lie, she knows it very well. But I'm sorry, Lindsey. Just let me slip this one lie. I don't intend to keep it for her that long. I'm sure Weston would do anything to find that man. When we see the witness, straight away, I will tell Lindsey about everything.
Why am I even thinking that much? I'm sure that it won't be long. All I need right now is rest. This day is the longest one I have ever had.
After what happened, I hopped in the shower and left right away. I haven't gotten enough rest since Zack and I broke up. My life started to crumble. I lost my job over a sexy girl. And now I'm married to a handsome billionaire who I had a bet with.
When I woke up, I noticed that it was dark outside. I must have slept all day. I stood up and fixed my bed.
I look around the apartment. The door creaked, and my eyes darted to it.
"You just woke up?" Lindsey asked.
I nodded. I think my hair is still messy, and my shirt is wrinkled, so she noticed.
"You're hammered, huh."
"I'm not."
She was about to speak when my phone rang. I immediately grabbed it for some reason.
I looked up and saw an unknown number, saying that we should meet at the bar.
The bar?
This must be Weston.
"Who was it?" Lindsey asked.
"Hmmm? No one."
Her eyebrows raised.
"Just a notification about an app update." I reasoned.
"Okay." She shrugged.
"Should we order? I don't think Andrew will come tonight. He is busy--"
"I'm gonna go out, Lindsey."
"Going where?"
"Work---" Ah shit. I don't have work anymore.
"Let me remind you that you are fired from your job, Tamantha."
"Yeah, I know."
"So why are you going to work–"
"Workout!" I sighed in relief. Why is she so curious about everything now? I mean, don't act that odd, though. But good thing that I think quickly, or she would know what is happening, and Weston would kill me for it.
"Workout? Since when did you start working out, Tamantha?"
Shit. Lindsey knows that I hate working out. I tried it before, and it didn't end well. I got injured trying to do the crab toe workout.
I don't even know how I got injured. All I know is that everything hurts. Since then, I have started hating workouts. I know the benefits of working out, but I'm too scared to do crazy activities.
"Now! Why is there something wrong with wanting to be healthy?" I asked.
"No. But, oddly, you started working out, out of nowhere."
Yes, because you started asking me this out of nowhere too. And why does Weston want to meet at the bar? Doesn't he have anything to do? What are we going to do there? Get drunk and relieve the time when we accidentally married each other?
Ugh! This is because of him!
"Well, I've awakened Lindsey. I want to choose myself. I want myself to be happy and healthy."
Her lips turned into a smile.
"I think this is the first time I heard you say that, and I'm very happy for you, Tamantha. Whatever happened in the morning made you think working out is good for you. Maybe we can jog together or go to the gym so you have a workout buddy."
I started to panic when Lindsey said that she wanted to join me. It's not that I don't want her to be my workout buddy. I mean, I would like to, but no.
It's just my excuse.
My phone rang once again.
Come here, fast.
That's what the text said.
"Yeah, maybe next time, Lindsey. I'm going to go now."
"Wow, excited to exercise, huh? That's good."
That's what you thought, Lindsey. More like excited to be legally single again.
I hopped in the shower and looked for decent clothes. All I can wear is three-fourths leggings and a loose shirt. I also wore a jacket since it's cold outside. Put on some running shoes as well.
I need to look at the part if I want to convince Lindsey that I will work out in the gym.
Once I was finished, I went directly to the bar.
My eyes landed on the man standing outside the bar entrance. His red polo sleeves are rolled up to his arms. It fits him well. Even though it's not a checked shirt, it still hugs his fit body. His grey pants suit his leather shoes that scream I'm expensive even in the dim light entrance of the bar. His hair is the same as before.
He's tapping his foot, and looks like he is irritated.
Hmm
Mr. Billionaire doesn't like to wait.
He doesn't have patience at all. I was observing his behavior. I don't want to get married to someone who isn't, especially to someone he cares about.
But why am I complaining? We are not married because of love. We got married accidentally. It was never meant to happen, but it did.
Weston glared at me, probably because I was taking too long.
I hurriedly walked towards him.
"What took you so long?" he asked.
Instead of answering him. I also asked him a question.
"Why did you text me to come here?"
"To find the man."
As expected. I know that's why, but I want it to be confirmed. What if he wants to get drunk again, right? And get married to somebody else!
It's not like I don't want him to get married to someone else, but that's just adultery and against the law!
Since we are legally married. Not that I care, but that's just another legal thingy that I don't want to deal with.
Weston's eyes scanned me.
"Why are you dressed like that? Did you come here from the gym? You could've just changed to dry clothes."
Wow. So nice of him to think about it. Change to dry clothes? I didn't even go to the gym! I'll take a cab to get here!
I don't even have a sweat anywhere in my body right now.
"Don't mind me, alright? How's your luck so far?" I asked.
"How's my luck? Are you stupid? I don't even remember the guy."
"Neither do I, Weston!"
"What's your name again?"
My eyes widened at his question. This man doesn't even know my name! And we are fucking married! This is ridiculous!
"Don't give me that look. We just met last night. We didn't exchange names." He reasoned.
"Yes, you didn't even look at the marriage papers."
"Shh… shut up," he said
I wonder what he put in my name in contacts.
I bet it's just 'girl' or fatty.
I took a deep breath. "Tamantha."
He smiled. "Okay, Tamantha. I know we started on the wrong foot here."
My eyes remained on him.
"But we need to be in this together, alright? We both agreed that we don't want to stay married to each other because it's bullshit and it's an accident. So we will do our best to find the guy without spending anything on untrusty people. Are we clear on that?"
"Yes." I nodded.
"Did you tell anyone about it?" he asked.
"No. That's why it took me this long. I'm making excuses to my friend."
"Okay, that's good. What time did we see each other last night?" he asked.
Why is Weston discussing it here? As far as I remember, he doesn't want anyone to know about it, yet he is talking outside the bar where people can eavesdrop.
"Aren't we going to get inside the bar?" I asked.
"And get drunk again? Hell no." He shook his head.
"But someone might hear us here."
"Who?" he asked.
"I don't know." I shrugged.
"Do you have a friend that goes here?"
My eyes widened when I realized that Lindsey goes to this club. I was with her last night!
"You do?"
"I am. But I'm sure she will stay at the apartment because she has no one to go with." Yeah, right. I'm sure Lindsey is just at home.
Right at that exact moment, a familiar voice made my eyes widen.
"Andrew! Why aren't you here yet?! You told me you're coming!"
I stiffened from where I stood.
Shit.
I thought Lindsey was staying at home?!
I'm sure he's talking to Andrew on the phone, and she is just behind my back.
The good thing is that I'm facing Weston. Only he can see Lindsey. But if she turned around, I'm sure she would notice my clothes. She saw me leave the apartment. I'm sure she will know that it is me.
"What?! Why are you like a brick there?"
I swallowed.
"Let's get out of here," I whispered.
"Do you wanna go on a honeymoon or what?" He laughed.
"No!"
"Oh gosh!"
My heart thudded when Lindsey screamed behind me.
Did she notice me? Shit!
"Let's go!" I said to Weston and grabbed his wrist, pulling him away far from where Lindsey was.
I was out of breath when I stopped.
"What the hell? Why are you grabbing me?" Weston asked after I let go of his hands.
I pulled him and ran towards a coffee shop far from the bar.
"We almost got caught! That's my friend! The one behind my back!"
Whoo! Why do I feel we are doing something illegal even if we are not?!
"Oh, that explains it. You should've just told me instead of grabbing me like that."
"I told you! But you don't seem to pick up any of my signals! Hello? Wide eyes! I stiffened right where I stood!"
"So? It's unclear! You're giving mixed signals," he said.
"Mixed signals? How is that a mixed signal? That is only two--"
"Weston?"
My head tilted when a baritone voice interrupted me.
Weston's eyes widened, and he stiffened where he stood.
I turned around and saw a tall, handsome man who looked like Weston.
Ah shit.
Is there something else that could make this day even more complicated?
