Chapter Ten
That day, Lucas and Amanda stayed indoors, even after the weather cleared. Lucas left that evening once the snow was salted and mostly gone and the pavements were finally passable.
The two spent the rest of the week mostly in each other's company, almost as if they had come on vacation together. They tried skating, went hiking, and camped out in the woods for two days.
While they couldn't keep their hands off each other for the week they spent together, they knew that what happened in Riverside Park would remain there. Or, at least, that's what Amanda knew.
Lucas never told her that he found out her identity. It was clear that if he did, it would ruin everything. There was no doubt that when she went back home and found out he was the new CEO, their relationship would take an ugly turn. But he chose not to think about that until he came to it.
After his week of vacationing was done, he left Riverside Park and took a flight to the city, where his new job awaited. Lemaiyan Fits was already doing well in the local and regional market. During his tenure, part of his job was to lead the company into the international market and make its mark there. He liked the challenge and couldn't wait to take the company to the next level.
His first week at work flew by as he reviewed ongoing projects and caught up with what different departments were up to. He had several meetings, some lengthy ones that took up hours.
He realised that his predecessor had been a great manager. Lucas couldn't understand why he felt the need to suck up to the Chairman through Amanda in order to rise up the ranks. If he had been patient and let his hard work speak for him, he probably would have gotten a higher position in the Group than being the CEO of one of the subsidiaries.
Unless he had other unknown motives.
However, despite the fact that the company was headed towards the right direction, it was nowhere near his old company in New York. Sure, there was a world of difference between their respective markets, but Lemaiyan Fits had a massive room for improvement, and he was going to make sure to use it up.
He signed a two-year contract. Him joining Lemaiyan Fits had, after all, been an out-of-the-blue decision fueled by his father. He figured that in two years he would have achieved his goals, and Lemaiyan Fits would have enough time to find a fitting replacement for when he left.
His first week at work was going to end with a party on Saturday, organized by the Chairman to welcome him into the company.
Lucas knew that Amanda planned to leave the resort on Friday.
Would she be at the party?
If she was, how would she react?
How would he react? Should he keep on pretending he never found out her identity while they were still at the resort?
He decided to mentally prepare for the worst.
