127 - The chapter with Alicia's threat
Rose
We had a good time at the party, and after the initial shock, Theo even managed to make fun of the situation, although he still continued to claim that I owed him an eternal debt. What he didn't seem to notice was how uncomfortable Camille was with the subject. It was because I noticed this that I called her to go to the restroom with me, taking her away from the group for a few minutes.
" What's the problem? " I asked as I walked up beside her.
" Problem? I don't have a problem." The poor girl's eyes widened.
" Camille, haven't you realized that we don't lie to each other? It's clear that you're bothered, I just don't understand why." I tried another approach.
" 'It's nothing, it's just…”
" Was it because I asked if Theo wanted to have sex with me? Because that was a joke, really, he was the only one who never tried anything with me before " I exposed my biggest concern.
I didn't want to upset my friend and I was afraid I had done exactly that by talking to her boyfriend like that in front of everyone!
" No, that wasn't the problem! " she hurried to say " I know you guys usually make jokes about this kind of thing and I'm getting used to it!”
" Then there is a problem " I stopped walking a few steps away from the girls' restroom, forcing the girl to look at me.
" Can we not talk about this here? " she pleaded, looking at a point.
I followed the girl's gaze, finding Alicia staring at us a few inches away, next to Susan and another sorority pledge. In fact, she was close enough to hear the tenor of our conversation, even over the music.
" Have you lost something here? Apart from your dignity, I mean,” I glared at her uncomplainingly.
Allie rolled her eyes, approaching with a haughty expression.
" 'You better know it's not going to stay that way, Campbell!”
" What are you going to do? Break into Chris's room again? That's going to be a little difficult now that they're sharing a room," Cam answered for me, surprising me.
Actually, I don't know what surprised me more, her answering or the fact that she didn't even blink at the annoyed looks she got from the three girls.
" Are you sharing a room? As far as I know, that's not allowed " Allie tried to keep her pose, even though she was visibly shaken by that information.
" 'We won't be on campus for long, don't worry,” I winked at her.
Surprise flashed across all three of their faces, and they exchanged confused glances before Allie recovered.
" 'I don't know what you think you're doing, but you're not stealing my boyfriend. Then you'd better give up,” she approached, lowering her tone.
" He was never yours, you had the chance and you threw it away. You only want him now because you realize he's not the loser you thought he was." I gave it back without shaking.
" You'll regret it. I'm going to make your life hell on this campus, the same way my father does yours at the office." She threatened me again.
The feud between the two of them was old, my father often came home about to explode for all the trouble Eric Waldorf caused him at the office and it was left to my mother to put up with all his bad moods.
" That makes sense. Your father can't get over the fact that a guy twenty years younger than him, and let's face it, a lot better looking, gets the best cases in the office. You had someone to look up to, you can't admit you lost".
I was already tired of that argument, not bothering to wait for an answer, turning my back on the group and dragging Camille with me towards the restroom, breathing a sigh of relief when I found it empty.
" How can you stand her? " Cam grimaced.
" Unfortunately it's years of practice " I went to a shelf where several towels were organized for the use of the party guests, taking one and starting to dry my hair that Christian had done the favor of ruining with his little pool trick, luckily my makeup was really waterproof, otherwise I would be in serious trouble.
" 'Don't you mind having to fight for Chris like this? " She frowned.
" Fight for Christian? Cam, if he really wanted to be with her, he could make good use of it because I wouldn't stoop to chasing after someone who doesn't want me, I have a very good self-esteem, and above all I'm ashamed of myself to submit to that role. My issue with Alicia involves much more than Christian. " I stared at her as I ran the towel through my hair.
" Ohhhh…”
" She's never done anything as big as the gentian violet issue before, but we've been at it for a few years now, she always finds some excuse to attack me. The excuse this time is Christian. But that's not what I want to talk about, now you can tell me what made you so uncomfortable before.
" You're not going to let that go, are you? " she sighs.
" 'No, I'm not.”
" Look, it's just that I can't stop thinking that I'm depriving Theo of something I don't feel ready for yet " she lowered her tone " and you can see that it's something he clearly misses, or he wouldn't have cared so much about you lying.”
It took a few seconds for me to understand the real meaning of her sentence, and then my eyes widened.
" What? Why do you think that?”
" Are you going to tell me he doesn't miss it? " she stared at me.
" Of having sex? Of course he does, he's a sexually active twenty year old guy! But do you know what he would miss the most? Being with you if you were to walk away because of some bullshit like that! " I tried to reassure her.
That didn't seem to convince the girl, so I decided to try another approach.
" Is Theo forcing things somehow? “
" 'No! He's great, and he assured me he'll wait until I'm ready, but... He got so angry with you and…”
" Cam, please. Do you really think anyone can get mad at me? I'm great! “I ironized” So you don't have to worry, he's a nice guy, and if things get too hard for him, I'm sure he'll talk to you."
She frowned, seeming to consider what I had just said, and I decided to put an end to it.
" And actually, the reason he was so angry was because he knew that a lot of people believed the story was for real. You know, if I had used Liam, no one would have believed it, but he... They had no reason to doubt it!”
Camille stifled a small laugh, motivating me to continue with that line of reasoning.
" He must have also been annoyed that, besides being gay, He has been very betrayed in the last few months and Chris has not been discreet at all" I added, getting a laugh from the girl " now you look better!”
We started to walk to the door, surprised when Audrey walked in, accompanied by Shavannah, raising her eyebrows in a surprised expression before smiling.
