50 - The chapter with the breakfast line
Christian
I woke up the next day turned onto my side, with one arm around Rose, who was still in the same position, making me sigh as I watched her face closely. If it were not for her heavy breathing, I would swear that she had died of a sudden illness in her sleep.
The commotion had already taken over outside the room, showing that probably everyone had already arrived and was ready for breakfast. We would have a lot to face that day.
" Chris..." Rose's sleepy voice caught my attention. She still had her eyes closed, in the same position.
" Yes?”
" Can you take your hand off my ass? " she murmured before opening her eyes to stare at me, making me laugh.
" Sorry. " I brought my hand up to her face, brushing a few strands of hair out of the way to get a better look at her.
" Good morning," she smiled.
" Good morning," I returned.
Rose turned to face me, looking in a much better mood than she had yesterday.
" It looks like there are quite a few people out there.”
" If the whole motorcycle club shows up, it's about forty people," I sat down on the bed, "and unlike your parents' house, here they take breakfast seriously.”
Turning my back to her, I reached for my cell phone on the bedside table before feeling the mattress sink with her weight right behind me. Her fingertips came up against the welts on my back from our last night together, causing me to cringe slightly as I felt my skin burn.
" Does it hurt? " I heard her voice, turning my face to look at her.
" What do you think?”
" I'm sorry about that," she touched my skin again, gently.
" No, you're not.”
" Not really," she admitted with a cocky smile, "you'll have others by Saturday.”
" Let's get dressed and go out. There are a lot of people wanting to meet you," I warned.
We took only a few minutes to get ready before leaving the room. I started to feel a little anxious as I went downstairs, I am about to introduce a girlfriend to my family!
And the relationship isn't even real! What am I doing?
I felt Rose's fingers intertwine with mine, I looked at her, and she just smiled.
" Come on, Davis. Time to make everyone buy our story," she winked at me.
Without much thought, I leaned in, bringing my hand to the back of her neck, pressing our lips together in a restrained kiss, unlike the kisses we used to exchange when we had the chance.
" Just getting used to kissing you in front of others," I explained before the girl's questioning look.
She giggled a little before I pulled her toward the door that led to the large hall where everyone was gathered. In the room there were two large rectangular tables where everyone was sitting, and in one corner a buffet with all the food prepared for breakfast. All the women were already seated and eating, while the men lined up to serve themselves. My parents were in the center of the first table, and my mother smiled as soon as she saw us.
" Rose, go serve yourself," I instructed, getting in line.
But she stood beside me, looking confused by this instruction.
" It's a line, we just got here.”
" You don't stand in lines. Go serve yourself," I repeated.
" Chris, I always wait at the college, I can wait here too," she denied, making me take a deep breath at the angry looks in our direction.
Doesn't she realize anything?
" Rose, seriously, go serve yourself," I lowered my tone, giving her a meaningful look.
She frowned, seeming to notice that I was serious, and seemed determined to just do as I asked, but before she could follow my lead, a guy who must have been a little younger than my father and was close to serving himself, let out a curse before coming toward us.
" Hey girl, go get served! " He raised his voice to Rose's surprise.
" What? " She blinked in amazement, making me feel mortified by the situation.
Rose was not used to being treated so rudely, it was clear that she was used to being idolized everywhere she went. I should have warned her about how stupid everyone there could be.
" If your useless boyfriend doesn't know how to treat a girl, we do. And women don't queue here, so get your fucking serve! " He raised his voice even higher, annoying me.
With my peripheral vision I could see my sister and her boyfriend looking like they were about to interfere while my father just watched us curiously.
I don't know who this guy thinks he is, but if he thinks he can talk to my girl in this tone, he...
" I'm sorry, did you just yell at me? " Rose also increased her tone, crossing her arms to the surprise of the man in front of her.
I decided not to interfere in this little clash, knowing that Rose would probably do a better job than I at defending herself.
" What part of go serve yourself don't you understand?”
" And what part of If even my father, who was largely responsible for bringing me into the world, won't yell at me, I won't accept that some thug I've never seen in my life will do it didn't you understand? " Silence reigned in the hall and I felt everyone's attention on both of us, probably expecting me to interfere in the situation, which I would never do.
" And what is Daddy's little princess going to do? Cry? " the man sneered, and I noticed my parents starting to get up.
" You're right about one thing, I am a princess. But I'm not helpless, so if you dare to raise your voice to me again, I will shove this boot so far up your ass that you'll need fucking surgery to remove it, is that clear? " Rose lifted her foot a little, pointing to the thick-heeled boots she was wearing that morning " Now I'm going to stay here with my boyfriend, because that's what I want to do!”
Everyone froze at Rose's words, and the man in front of us didn't quite know how to respond, when Vihn started to laugh, infecting everyone in the room. I wrapped my arms around Rose's waist, pulling her close to me, and moved closer to her ear.
" Have you gone crazy from bumping into a guy three times your size? " I whispered through the din that had taken over the cafeteria as the man began to walk away, returning to his place in line.
" If things got complicated, my boyfriend could defend me," she winked at me, making me laugh.
" Christian, serve yourself and come sit down," my mother called from her table.
Holding Rose's hand, I pulled her to the front of the line, feeling everyone's eyes on us. Things started well.
