58 - The chapter where Harry crosses the line

" You seem distracted." A female voice caught my attention.
I looked over to find Alicia following me, her long red hair loose, partially hidden by a black fluffy cap that matched her coat that surely cost more than all my clothes put together.
" I was distracted, I didn't see you coming," I returned.
" Then I surprised you," she smiled.
Her smile was exactly the same as when we first met, and at that time I considered it the most angelic smile in the place, and maybe it still was. But it was far from the most beautiful.
" Sure” I tried to sound as nonchalant as possible.
In the last month I had noticed her trying to get closer, Allie always found a way to include herself in the groups I was in at parties, and on those occasions I could feel Rose's gaze following every interaction between us, and she tried hard to show indifference, but I knew how she felt deep inside.
" It's been a long time since we've had a chance to talk, I heard that you went home for the holidays," she tried to bring up a subject.
" Yes, I took the opportunity to spend some time with my family." I stopped walking, turning in her direction, not caring whether or not I was in the middle of the road, people could detour if they wanted to. “As for our talk, I don't think we belong to the same social group, so we won't have a chance to interact.”
" I don't agree, we are always going to the same places, we always meet, but it seems that now you are too busy to remember me.” She started playing with a lock of her hair, giving me another one of her smiles.
" Too busy?”
" You're always in company. It seems that now all the girls have begun to see the potential that I saw in you from the beginning.” Her smile widened, to my surprise.
Not even when I thought I had a chance with her, had Allie been as direct as she is now.
" I'm sure many take advantage of that potential. I have to go, or I'll be late," I returned before turning to walk, but she hurried to catch up.
" I'm heading in the same direction," she explained.
I didn't bother to answer, trying to get to my class building as quickly as possible.
" I didn't see you in the cafeteria today, in fact, my cousin's table was half empty. Decided to do something different at lunch?” she tried to probe me.
" You have no idea," a small smile came to my face as I remembered Rose.
I finally reached the entrance of the building, I could feel flattered, Alicia was a pretty girl and if I wanted to, I could certainly spend some time with her, but I made a promise to Rose and I intend to keep it.
" Will I see you at the party tonight? " she asked with a small smile on her face.
" No, I have other plans tonight," I said before saying goodbye, and then entering the building.
As I entered the classroom I looked around, heading towards Harry as soon as I spotted him settled in his usual place, but before I could say anything, Lucy Hanh entered the classroom, preventing any direct interaction between us. Sitting beside him, I waited for the first few minutes of class to pass before whispering to him, without looking away from the teacher.
" I don't know what you think you're doing, but you need to stop.”
" I'm looking out for my relationship, Davis. How does that concern you? " He returned in the same tone.
" It concerns me because you are messing with my friends. I heard about the scene you made in the cafeteria, and if you keep it up, you won't have a girlfriend for a long time, so you better watch out, you're messing with the wrong person.” I tried to advise him once again.
But this only served to make the boy give me a cross look, seeming irritated by my intrusion into the subject.
" First of all, I'm not afraid of Liam. I can handle him without any problems. And Sky already knows that she's my girl now, not Van Derr Waal's," he muttered, "and if you want to take care of any relationships, why don't you take care of the one you pretend doesn't exist with Rose?”
I took a deep breath, trying not to let this provocation get to me. My friend seemed completely out of it that day and I didn't want to make things worse.
" There is no relationship with Rose. She is my friend.”
" Oh sure, the friend you fuck whenever you get the chance and think no one knows." He stared at me with an irritated expression. “ What do you think? That no one noticed that you two couldn't have lunch in the cafeteria today? What a coincidence, no?”
I took a deep breath at this gratuitous attack, holding myself together so as not to explode with it. I bit my jaw, controlling myself not to answer it at that moment, when I noticed the miss Hahn looking in our direction.
" You better watch your mouth, Thompson. And I've warned you, if you keep bringing this up you're going to end up single!”
" If you don't mind sharing the girl with the whole campus, that's your problem! I don't…”
" I told you to be careful! " I raised my voice a little, attracting the attention of the nearby students and Ms. Hanh herself, who gave us a questioning look.
" Mr. Thompson, Mr. Davis. Is there something you would like to share with the class? It seems to be more important than my explanation," she quipped.
" Sharing is Davis's specialty," Harry teased, making me clench my fists.
I'm going to do Van Derr Waal a big favor, and I'm going to put an end to this bastard myself.
" I'm waiting. What's so important that you'd get in the way of my class?”
" I'm sorry, Ms. Hanh. It won't happen again," I muttered.
She stared at us for a few seconds until she decided to drop the subject and returned to her explanation. As for me, I was willing to ignore my roommate for the rest of the class, but he didn't cooperate with me, whispering after a few seconds.
" I don't know why you are angry with me when I am just trying to protect my relationship.”
" You don't have to attack Rose to defend your relationship, no matter if I fuck her or not," I returned in irritation.
He took a deep breath, waiting a few seconds as the teacher gave us a suspicious look before speaking again.
" You should understand me, Audrey is right, Liam is doing everything he can to get Skyller back," he murmured.
I couldn't contain my surprise at that statement. Audrey? He's taking advice from Audrey? The same Audrey who is crazy about Van Derr Waal?
" Audrey Dixon? Are you taking advice from the same Audrey who humiliates your girl at every opportunity? Are you stupid? " I turned to him.
" She assured me that she never excluded Sky from anything, even inviting us to the party at Sigma today. Van Derr Waal made up that story about not going where Skyller is not welcome to manipulate her," he returned angrily.
I rolled my eyes, knowing that nothing I could say would have any effect at that moment, Harry was willing to believe whatever he wanted.
I just hope Skyller doesn't forget our appointment today.
I spent the rest of the class concentrating on the calculation demonstrations of the first law of thermodynamics, surprising myself with the complexity of the subject. I will not get any further involved in that subject. Both Liam and Skyller are adults and can deal with their own issues.
