66 - The chapter where Christian sees what it is like to have a girlfriend
Christian
About forty minutes later I was back, but to my surprise, Theo was fiddling on his cell phone lying on the extra bed in Rose's room who was still sleeping and Skyller and Liam had left.
" Hey," I greeted him.
" Man, now I understand why Van Derr Waal sleeps so late, you need to feel these sheets," he sighed.
" Where are they? " I ignored his comment.
" Skyller remembered some details from yesterday, and she wanted to be alone," Theo explained, "Liam offered his room.”
I grimaced at that statement. Poor Skyller, she of all people, didn't deserve to go through that. But unfortunately she would have to face the situation.
" And Rose? " I sat on the edge of her bed, placing the two paper bags and the glass of tea on the bedside table.
" She hasn't moved since I arrived. I don't know if this is normal," he sat up.
" Yes, it is normal. She has a habit of slipping into a coma every time she sleeps," a small smile came to my face as I watched her sleep.
I opened the pharmacy bag, taking out a small ear thermometer I had bought, placing it in her ear after turning it on. Almost thirty-nine degrees...
" Her temperature is quite high," I sighed, wondering whether or not I should take her to the hospital.
" That's what you get for running a marathon stripping off your clothes in the snow," he shrugged, getting up and walking over to where I was standing, standing beside the bed. “Give her the medicine, if she doesn't get better, we'll have to take her to the emergency room in Waterfall.”
" I hope she gets better," I agreed, taking out the fever and pain medication I had bought.
" I'll go get something to eat, and come back later to see if everything is okay," Theo warned before leaving the room, leaving me alone there with her.
I waited a few moments, still watching her red cheeks and the tired expression on her face before waking her up.
" Hey, little freak. Wake up," I patted her face three times, "Come on, I brought you some medicine, we need to lower your temperature.”
" Christian, when I asked you to get a nickname for me, I meant a real nickname. And not using diminutive offenses," she murmured.
" You can't be offended if it's true," I returned with a small smile.
" I'm not a freak," she mumbled, sitting up.
I took two pills, placing them in her hand after opening the bottle of water for her to drink.
" Would you prefer I call you Baby? " I sneered.
Rose grimaced as she swallowed the pills, handing me the bottle of water afterwards.
" Let's keep it the little freak for now," she murmured, turning back to lie down.
I took a cold adhesive pad and applied it to her forehead, receiving a confused look in return.
" I was told that this is good for bringing down fever," I explained.
" Yes, for babies!”
" You act like a brat sometimes, so that should do it," I shrugged, starting to empty the other bag.
" Chris, I'm sick. Can you be a little nice? " she complained, making me smile.
I took the blueberry and parmesan muffins out of the bag, the cinnamon roll, and the package of cookies I had bought for her.
" Sit down, you need to eat," I ignored her complaint.
" I don't want to eat," she whined.
" Hey, this is where I really start to worry. You refusing food is the end of the world," I sneered, forcing her to sit down, "I haven't forgotten about your special breakfast. I bought the best they had at the cafeteria.”
She looked at all the items I had put on the nightstand, before looking at me, giving a small smile.
" To make me eat it had to be themed, remember?”
I rolled my eyes, stood up, and walked over to her desk, picking up one of her colored pens before sitting down again, improvising a poorly made Mickey on the packaging of each item.
" Here. A theme breakfast for the crazy girl who got sick running around in the snow with no clothes on " I grabbed a Parmesan muffin, handing it to her " Now eat it all at once.”
" Wow, you are so kind," she returned with amusement, accepting the muffin.
" I know. I try very hard to be like that.”
Rose ate the first muffin in silence, and I took the opportunity to grab one for myself as well, smiling every time her gaze met mine.
Why do I feel this way every time I'm with her? Is my sister right? Or rather, did I really mean it when I said I was crazy about her? Because I can't imagine anything better to do at this moment than to stay here, keeping Rose company.
" Have you talked to Harry yet? " she broke the silence, grimacing as she sipped the tea I had just handed her.
I nodded, opening the packet of cookies and offering one to her before answering.
" He came home late last night, I was already asleep. When I left the room he wasn't awake yet. But I will have to talk to him at some point. After all, he is my roommate.”
She sighed, straightening up, looking uncomfortable with the subject.
" In the end, he's also your friend. Even before we met.”
" Don't get me wrong, Rose. I'm as annoyed by the situation as you are, but I can't ignore it without even giving you a chance to explain," I looked into her eyes “It doesn't mean that I didn't feel like giving Harry a black eye more than once yesterday.”.
We sat in silence for a few more minutes until Rose brought up the subject again.
" When?”
" When what?
" You said you felt like giving him the black eye more than once. Why?
" Does it matter? " I stared at her, not feeling so comfortable revealing that one of the reasons I wanted to hit my roommate was her.
Rose watched me for a few seconds before she shrugged and went back to her bed, placing the glass of tea on the bedside table.
" I think I'll stay here tonight, you must have better things to do, I'm feeling better," she sighed, deciding to change the subject.
" Do you want to be alone? " I asked.
" I didn't say I wanted to. But I'm not going to rent you out.”
Of course she wouldn't force me to stay there with her, but I couldn't think of anything better to do at the moment.
" What do you say? I get my laptop, and the two of us spend the morning marathon-watching some TV series? " I suggested.
" My laptop is over there," Rose frowned.
" But mine has a bigger screen," I returned.
" I'll choose what we watch," a smile lit up her face.
" Finish eating and I'll be back soon," I warned, getting up.
I left the room, making my way back to mine in a hurry. To be honest, I couldn't wait to get back and just spend the day doing nothing with her.
Damn, I'm screwed!
