71 - The chapter where Rose apologizes
CHRISTIAN
" You know, I know that bikers like to live dangerously, but to make rose lose a competition on purpose is to have no love for life," Theo sneered.
" How screwed am I? " I watched as Rose marched furiously toward the entrance of the dorm, brushing the excess snow off her coat as she walked.
" We're going to Grayfox Mills for pizza, and now there are six of us, so you'll have to go alone with her to Brigitte's." Liam commented as we started walking in the same direction as Rose.
" You can go with her," I proposed.
" You provoked her, you can handle it," he denied.
" It was you who gave her the idea of a race knowing that she is dominated by an evil competitive entity.” I returned it.
" And yet you made that entity lose," Cam surprised me with his answer.
I looked in her direction, watching the girl who kept a half smile on her face.
" Even you will stand against me, Miss Martin? " I stared at her with the pleasure of seeing her cheeks flush.
" Christian, I'm hungry, so go calm her down. We'll meet you at the pizza place," Skyller cut me off.
They said goodbye as I took a deep breath, preparing myself to face the beast. I entered the dorm, finding her still in the foyer, using a mirror to fix her hair, her gaze locked on mine through the reflection, and I didn't have to ask to know that she was angry.
" How long are you going to stay angry? " I approached her nonchalantly.
" You never get tired of being a jerk, do you? Just when I think you're evolving as a person, you prove to me that you'll never stop being the big jerk that you are," she turned to me, approaching me with hard steps.
" You embody a dark entity in a simple race between friends and I'm the jerk? " I returned it without letting myself be intimidated “I thought you were working on keeping your competitive side under control, but of course I was wrong.”
I gave up trying to get along with her at that point. It was a waste of time if she was going to act irrationally, and this time I wouldn't give up my reason on a whim. I doubted that I would be able to reach my friends in time to get a ride, so I opted to just go to my room.
" Hey, where are you going? " Rose followed me angrily " We're talking!”
" I'm saving you the pain of being in the company of this big jerk, everyone's already gone to the pizza place, you better hurry up," I muttered.
She held my arm, preventing me from going any further, and I took a deep breath before turning to face her.
" But what about you?”
I didn't say anything, just kept looking into her eyes, giving her a silent answer to that question.
" Stop it, what are you planning? To stay here alone? " she held my hand, interlacing our fingers before leading me out of the house.
" It's better than putting up with your infernal mood! " I returned, although I allowed myself to be guided by her.
" Well, my mood would certainly be better if you weren't such a jerk," she mumbled in reply as we both walked hand in hand toward the parking lot.
" I admit that I am a big jerk for trying to make an insufferable bore like you have some fun in the snow," I immediately returned.
" Boring? Did you just call me boring? " her voice rose a few octaves, attracting the attention of some passing students.
" Why are you so surprised? I have never hidden that I consider you the most insufferable person on this campus any more than you hide that you consider me a big jerk.”
We both stopped in front of Brigitte, that anger had taken over her face again, but I couldn't care less.
" You are an arrogant bastard. You're acting like I'm a crazy person for the way I reacted, but every second you show me that I was right to be angry with you," she growled before angrily releasing my hand and walking to the driver's side.
" I don't act like you're crazy, you are crazy! And if you were so sure, why didn't you let me go back to my room? " I got into the car regretting that I hadn't followed my initial plan.
Rose sped away with the vehicle at once, causing me to hold back, giving her a surprised look.
" I should have left you alone, I would have had a lot less anger than I am having right now," she gave me a quick look.
" Then stop the car and I'll come back to the dorm. Damn it, I spent the entire weekend taking care of you sick, I gave you your medication, I got you food, I became your private fucking manicurist, and do you realize how hard it is to sleep next to you with you wearing nothing but a tank top and panties and being forced to control myself, after all you were sick and the focus was on your recovery? " I retorted, expressing all the irritation that had already overwhelmed me with her attitude." I spent the whole damn weekend living for you, all so that the first time I contradicted you in the slightest, you could tell me that I was nothing but an arrogant bastard.”
Rose seemed surprised at my reaction, but I couldn't care less, I was sick of her little games. We had already left the campus and were walking the streets that would take us to Grayfox Mills.
" But…”
" So if you can't handle a fucking game between friends, stop the fucking car, because this arrogant bastard will be better off away from you, and you can be sure I won't be alone!”
Rose left the street we were on, taking a side road flanking one of the many woods that surrounded the small town, probably looking for a place to maneuver the car and return to the campus. But to my surprise, she stopped her car just a few meters ahead.
Great, she will literally drop me off in the middle of nowhere and I will have to walk a few miles back.
But I wouldn't bet on it, my hand went for the door handle, but before I could open the door, Rose unbuckled her seat belt and leaned towards me. Her hand reached behind my neck, tangled in my hair, and her lips soon joined mine in a hungry kiss.
I didn't even have time to register the moment she climbed into my lap without breaking the kiss for a second. My hands went straight to her ass, not hesitating to squeeze her flesh over the jeans she was wearing, mentally thanking me that the car was so spacious.
" I thought I was a damn bastard," I took a deep breath, exploring her body with my hands.
I was surprised at the tender way her hands cupped my face in a small caress as they looked into my eyes.
" You're a fucking bastard. But I'm an insane bitch, so I guess we're even." A small smile broke out on her flushed lips before they came back up to mine, this time more calmly.
I ran my hands up her back, enjoying that kiss, my heart racing in my chest as confused feelings grew in me. Where had all the anger I had felt moments ago gone? That was barely an apology and still I couldn't find even a shadow of that feeling.
What the fuck is happening to me!
Rose pulled away once more, this time leaning her forehead against mine, keeping her eyes closed with baited breath.
" They're waiting for us, aren't they? " she reminded me of the existence of our friends, who would soon start calling us to find out where the hell we were.
" Yes, and you're wearing too many clothes to get this done quickly," I returned, looking into her eyes.
But the big truth was that I didn't feel comfortable with what was happening inside me. I mean, I should still be angry with her, madly horny, yes, but still angry!
Rose brushed her lips against mine again, and I took another deep breath, opening them to deepen the kiss, but she pulled away with a frown.
" What's the matter? " she asked looking into my eyes.
“What do you mean?”
" You're acting weird," she explained, caressing my cheek again.
" We'd better not keep anyone waiting," I forced a smile.
That answer seemed to take Rose by surprise. She blinked in a daze before climbing off me, returning to her seat at the wheel, giving me one last frown before she started the car, maneuvering to head back down the street from where we had left.
" I'm sorry, okay? " she let out in a low tone after a brief moment of silence.
" What did you say? " I frowned as I looked at her, surprised at her worried expression.
" I'm sorry I called you a damn bastard. You were trying to be nice and I was acting like a spoiled brat.” She took a deep breath.
" Is this really you admitting that you were wrong? " a small, sneering smile crept onto my lips, as I tried to distract myself from the previous questions.
" Don't be a jerk about it, okay? It's hard for me to apologize, but I don't want this awkward atmosphere between us, so…” she murmured, her cheeks flushed.
I put my hand on her thigh, stroking it as I watched her profile.
" We're fine, okay?
" Really? " She gave me a quick look for confirmation.
" I'll buy you a pizza as a reward for admitting you were wrong," I winked at her, having the pleasure of hearing her laugh.
" A pizza? Davis, do you think an apology from me is worth a pizza? Do you know how rare a phenomenon that is? " she joked “I didn't even apologize to my father after I cracked his head open with the bottle. And he wanted to send me to juvie!”
Now we were both getting back to normal!
" Ahh, and how much is your apology worth? " I asked with an amused expression on my face.
We were already in Grayfox Mills and Rose was looking for a good parking place near the pizzeria.
" A tattoo!”
" A tattoo? " I raised both eyebrows at her.
Rose got a spot, concentrating on maneuvering the car and parking it perfectly before turning to me, who continued to stare at her, unceremoniously, Rose leaned over, bringing her hand to the back of my neck before kissing me. It was the first time we had done this somewhere that we could be seen by anyone, and she didn't seem to mind.
" You said you chose one for me, I want to do it," she pulled away just enough to look into my eyes before giving me one last kiss and exiting the car.
I followed her, walking easily beside her. Damn it, it's official, I want her. And I want her for real. The fact that I was so excited about the opportunity to kiss her in public is proof of this. But what about her? What do you think about all this?
" I think I preferred it when we just had good old-fashioned make-up sex after a fight.” I tried bringing my hand to hers, intertwining our fingers, probing her reaction.
Rose gave me a brief glance before smiling, shaking her head as if to dismiss a thought before looking forward again, walking hand in hand beside me toward the entrance of the pizzeria.
" Well, you can't tell me about a tattoo and not give me any more clues about it. That's not fair," she returned without looking at me.
" What do you want to know?”
" Where am I going to get this tattoo? I should warn you that I'll do some research beforehand to find out the level of pain.”
Through the large window of the pizzeria I could see our group already eating and laughing, feeling pleased to see that Cam seemed more and more at ease sitting next to Theo.
" This time I didn't choose it because of the pain," I laughed, opening the door for her to pass. “You set the time and I'll pay for it, consider it your Christmas present.”
We attracted some attention as soon as we entered the place, Liam was the first to wave at us, causing Rose to let go of my hand to wave back.
"Are you serious? Can I schedule for you too? ", she smiled at me.
" For me?”
" Yes, you said that one day you would tattoo something from chemistry, we can do it together," she seemed excited about that possibility.
That subject died as soon as we arrived at the table, being greeted by our friends.
