#521 - Intelligent life locks

Frank bent down and picked up the finger-thick object that had fallen to the ground. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be something wrapped in plastic.

Although the packaging hadn't been opened yet, Frank could already tell what it was: an energy bar issued to soldiers by the army.

Although military rations are sold on the market, they are all gimmicky products and not real military rations. An energy bar like this one in front of him is not something ordinary people can obtain, let alone this mental patient.

Frank's hand holding the energy bar trembled uncontrollably. To prevent himself from crushing this only piece of evidence, Frank could only place it on the table next to him.

Frank had never felt this emotion before. He felt his brain trembling, his chest as if on fire, his lungs burning, and his limbs as if they were no longer under his control. Even the simple action of standing up was shaky.

"Why?" Frank asked calmly, placing his hand on the table. Then, he suddenly erupted and overturned the entire table.

The bottles and cans on the table all fell to the ground. The culprit was now obvious: the very army he had once served.

It made sense. Frank was a test subject in a top-secret project, and now that the project had been exposed, the military couldn't just sit back and let it ferment.

If they couldn't solve the problem of the test subjects turning into monsters, then the military family members who knew some of the inside story would naturally be the primary targets. Eliminating them was natural. It was ridiculous that Frank had naively wanted to live a good life with his family.

The military probably planned to silence the test subjects' families first, and then deal with them after they turned into monsters. The reason they gave these grunts houses might have been to make it easier to track them.

But the military obviously didn't expect Frank to be lucky enough to turn back into a human from a monster and rush back home from New York. Unfortunately, it was all too late. All Frank found were five cold corpses.

As for the mental patient, he was probably just a scapegoat the military found at random. When the time came, they would have the police pin all the blame on the mental patient, and the military could get away scot-free.

Thinking of this, Frank headed straight for another house not far away. It was the home of another test subject. Frank's family had moved here with them. They had laughed and promised each other that they would take care of each other, whether in the military or as families.

Sure enough, Frank broke into that man's house in the same way and only saw the corpses of the man's wife and mother. Perhaps because they were too close, the military didn't arrange a second mental patient. They probably thought one scapegoat was enough and that more would arouse suspicion.

Frank understood that the remaining forty test subjects' families were probably facing the same fate.

Frank kept his promise. He buried the man's wife and mother in the ground. Because it was already daytime, even if the town was deserted, there were still people walking on the street.

These people naturally noticed Frank. Faced with Frank covered in blood, they chose to call the police. There was no police station in the town, so they had to temporarily call in the police from a neighboring town.

This was probably one of the reasons why the military chose this place.

After Frank buried the bodies, the police arrived. Seeing Frank's appearance, the two policemen immediately drew their guns and ordered Frank to drop the shovel in his hand.

Frank no longer believed in anything in this country. He first dropped the shovel in his hand to attract the police's attention, and then pulled out the pistol hidden in his waistband. He had just found this gun in the test subject's house.

"Bang! Bang!"

Two gunshots rang out in succession. Frank's precise shooting skills knocked the guns out of the policemen's hands. The policemen who lost their guns immediately became like rabbits at a loss. One of the policemen tried to pick up his gun but was threatened by Frank's warning shot.

"Go back if you don't want to die!"

Frank threatened in a cold voice. The two policemen raised their hands and dared not move again. Seeing this, Frank raised his pistol and walked backwards towards the house. He was going to drive away and look for a chance to take revenge.

"Bang!"

Just then, another gunshot rang out. Frank only felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. He immediately realized he had been shot. Not daring to delay, Frank ignored the two policemen and scrambled back into the house.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Several more gunshots rang out. That person obviously didn't want to let Frank go, but Frank was fast and had already crawled into the house.

"Fuck!"

With a curse, the two policemen looked in the direction of the sound and only saw a fully armed man getting out of a car parked on the side of the house. They were about to ask who he was, but the other party skillfully flashed a badge.

"Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Now pick up your guns and kill that criminal with me." The man said, putting away his badge and raising his pistol as he walked towards the house.

A higher rank crushes people to death. The two policemen could only admit they were unlucky and picked up their guns, tiptoeing behind the man.

William Rollins felt very unlucky. He was sent to carry out this clean-up mission, and he didn't expect that when he thought he was about to finish and drive away, something went wrong. Fortunately, he saw the police car on the way back and paid attention, otherwise there might have been omissions.

'When I find that son of a bitch, I'm going to make him pay.' William thought fiercely.

"Did something fly into the house from the window?"

A policeman behind William whispered to his partner.

"Don't be nosy." The partner glared at him, then continued to follow William silently.

Inside the house, Frank was hiding in the kitchen. Fortunately, the structure of these houses was similar. Frank could find the kitchen of this house based on his memory of his own house.

Clutching his chest, Frank could only sigh at his bad luck. The other party had only hit him with two shots, one in the right shoulder and the other in the chest. Blood was constantly flowing out of that small hole, like a broken water pipe.

"Maria…" Frank mourned the life of his deceased wife, and the resentment in his heart turned into a surge of anger.

"Crack!"

The sound of glass breaking, but it shouldn't be someone coming in from the window. Probably only a small stone breaking the glass could make such a small sound.

Frank struggled to look up. He only saw a ring flashing a blood-red light floating in front of him.

"Intelligent lifeform locked."
