Traits Of A Saviour
Lilliana Roslyn's POV.
"We are trying to solve the matter, Rita. It's just too much." I hear the voice of commander Oliver says from the balcony of the room I'm in. After many searching of where Rita is, I finally get to know that she's here and I think this place is a private room of commander Oliver. So, how I got here is through the help of Mr. Meany.
I didn't even talk to him about the earlier conflict between us which involves me slapping him, hard in the face.
"Yeah, I know..." Rita voice trails off. What are they talking about?
"No need to eavesdrop. Come out already." Calls, commander Oliver. He's caught me, leaning against the threshold of the door and eavesdropping on them illegally...or is it illegal to eavesdrop on my friend and her...mate talking?
I still can't believe that that cruel and sadistic piece of shit is Rita's mate.
After debating on whether I should reveal myself or not, I finally step into the balcony and as soon as Rita's eyes land on me. She squeal.
"Oh, my god! Ana, you're okay." She says, more of asking.
Rita stands and walk over to me, ushering me to the seat beside her.
"Look who's here?" Commander Oliver says and I force out a small smile to him. Note this, its because of Rita. I hate him like mad.
"I know." He says, suddenly and I mentally smack myself. He can read me as much as Adrian and Lucas can. How could I have forgotten that he's a water bender?
He continues. "I see, Adrian's done a..."
"Ahem." Rita clears her throat, loudly and intentionally to halt commander Oliver midway. "How about you excuse us?" She walks over to him, after making sure I'm seated already. Then, she drags him up when he's acting lazily with that teasing grin on his face.
Being with this benders has made me realize somethings about them. They love making that smug grin that I hate. That every human hate.
"Leave, Oliver." Rita says without utilizing his title and he doesn't seem bothered, even with me being present.
"You don't want me to." Commander Oliver says, pouting his lips. They're acting as if I'm absent.
The next thing, Rita did got me, gaping my mouth as commander Oliver flare his eyes and say, faking anger. "Did you just..."
"Yeah. I just smack your big ass." Rita completes for him.
"You're in trouble for doing this."
"For doing what? This?" Rita teases and smack commander Oliver ass again. This time, he jolt up and with the sound, I heard. I'm sure, Rita swat him really hard.
"Definitely, a punishment." Commander Oliver says and Rita nods and grin.
"Yeah, I want a punishment." She says, cheerfully. Punishment? What kind of punishment?
"Don't worry, babe." He says and then, dart his eyes over to me, smirking as he looks back at Rita, who's also looking straight at him. She acting like an hypnotized human but I know better than having the believe that commander Oliver has hypnotize Rita.
"Meet me in the usual room." He adds and wink at her. Rita seems to understand him.
"Yes, sir." She replies, smiling widely.
"And don't braid your hair, I'll do it, myself." Wait...hope it's not what I'm thinking?
"Sure." She pause. Now, commander Oliver is at the exit with his wine cup on his left hand. "I don't want cuff but ropes. Those thick ropes you got at the workshop."
"That's my girl."
"Your bad girl." She says and he left with a proud grin. Did I just heard my best friend talk about kink strategy with her partner?.
I shake my head as Rita turns to face me, focusing all her attention on me.
"Baby girl." She squeal and bear-hug me tightly. "How much I miss you? What happened? You know, they didn't tell me much. I didn't even know that you were gone until I forced it out of Oliver." She explains.
I nod my head and say. "I can't really remember much. The memories seem bizarre."
"Just don't bother yourself too much about it. But you really got us worrying when you were gone and I was mad at all of them." She says, emphasizing her point with her hands. "They didn't even let me know anything about the creature that kidnapped you."
It didn't seem like Pallas kidnapped me though but it's no need to make them see through my view. It will be hopeless trying to make them understand things I, myself don't even understand plainly.
"But all that doesn't really matter. It didn't really affect us that much except for king Adrian. He was torn and had to keep to himself. It worried others and even I pitied him. He was in his room throughout, dying slowly in there." A glimpse of sympathy and pain flows through Rita's eyes and I look down.
I shouldn't have left. I was too occupied with the thoughts of learning about my mother that I forget the present in my life. And at the end, I couldn't even remember much. Nothing about my mother.
Rita's hand shake mine and she leans more closer to me. "Remember I told you that I'll tell you something later?"
I nod at her as I raise my gaze again and look straight into her eyes. Their brown colours are vibrant. Full of brightness. She's truly happy.
"What I wanted to tell you is that, I don't know what you're thinking about king Adrian and his race but one things I know is that this-" through gesture, she bends her hand downwards and rotates it in the air. "-chemistry between you and king Adrian can't be stopped. It's like...an already written thing. He really cares for you."
I just listen to her while my lips are pressed into a thin line. I'm short of words. "If any of us, humans wanna change the world. If we want to save the human race from slavery, once and for all. And if anyone has a chance, it's you, Ana. You're the only human who can change all this quickly. You have better chances than any of us could ever get. From you, all of us, humans can gain more bravery to stand up and take back our freedom."
"Bravery?" That's the last thing I think I have.
"Yeah, bravery." She presses. "Okay, take for example. What you did the other day was courageous. How you saved the human involves lots of bravery. You've always been brave, Ana." I smile at her last words and tighten my hand on hers.
"How's the human?" I ask.
"He's fine. He's at the infirmary, receiving treatment. Are you free now, maybe we can go visit him?" Rita says.
"I can't now. I need to go somewhere. When I'm back, we'll go." Thinking, I'm free from Rita's interrogation, she suddenly ask again.
I should have knew I can't escape her. "With king Adrian?"
"Yeah." I croak and she smiles.
"You know, in the next few weeks you'd be a supermodel for all humans." Says, Rita, bewildering me completely.
"Excuse me?"
"Oliver's continent is like a distributor that sends humans to other continents when there are needed before the referendarius day. So, with what you did, I'm sure the humans that would be auctioned off would spread your act across the globe." Rita says and I smile, awkwardly.
"Spreading my act of bravery across the globe won't mean anything. It doesn't change anything." I squint my eyes at Rita and she grins.
"It might not matter on the outside but it'll on the inside. And once it matter on the inside- in our hearts. That's all. Ana, you're a saviour." Rita explains. When I said Rita seems mysterious, she really is.
"Thanks for the talk though." I say and rest my back against the softy couch.
"Yeah, you're welcome. Anything for a friend."
"Um...how about you go see the human? You said he's in the infirmary, right?" I pause and Rita nods. "I need you to check on him, see if he's okay."
"Is something wrong?" Rita asks, confusion painting her lovely face.
"No, I'm just..." I trail off.
"Over thinking?" Rita says and I fix my eyes on hers. I nod to her in agreement and she pulls me into a hug.
I'm having this vibe that the human might be in danger? I don't know why, I'm having the suspicion but I just want to clear it and since I wouldn't be around for a while, Rita could help me. You can never know what benders are up to even when they're trying to be good. One doesn't just change to good in one day. They'll have to leave their bad ways gradually.
"We'll be good, Ana." Rita mutters into my hair.
"All humans will be good." I say in assurance. A promise I'm not sure of yet coming from a different part of me. A part, I never knew. Whatever I'm missing from the trip with Pallas would definitely be something strange. Something different...perhaps preternatural.
