Chapter 38
Kendra POV
I leave Bradley in the cabin while I check on Alissa and Chuck. I hope they are both okay. I cannot wait to tell them how well Bradley is doing. I cannot believe how unbelievably happy I am right now.
I knock on the cabin door before I enter. No one says anything. I decide to go in and check on the two of them. Chuck meets me as I come into the kitchen.
“How is she?” I ask him.
“She is okay. Alissa is no spring chicken. That blow from the stun gun was hard on her. I think her shoulder is broke from the fall. I will take her to the doctor when she wakes up,” Chuck says.
“I only wanted to check on the two of you; I do not want to intrude,” I say.
“You are family now. You will never be an intrusion,” Chuck says.
I hug Chuck. “Thank you for saying that. I feel like I belong here,” I say.
“Good, because I think that it is time for Alissa and me to travel maybe. We should do something else, get away from here for a while. We will want to be here when the baby comes, but after that, I think we should have some time that is ours. She has looked after Bradley and this place for so long she deserves something else,” Chuck says.
“Yes, she does. Bradley is okay. The wound healed,” I say.
“It is probably a combination of the vampire blood and him finally coming to terms with being a wolf,” Chuck says.
“He is moving around great this morning,” I say.
“How about you? Are you okay?” Chuck asks me.
“I think so. A lot has happened, but I am happy. I cannot remember the last time I was this happy,” I say.
“I am glad to hear that. Alissa and I would leave this place for you and Bradley to run. It is a lot of hard work, but I know the two of you could do it. It would be a nice place to raise a family,” Chuck says.
“I agree. I was not happy about being pregnant when I found out, but now I feel different about it. I feel like it is the best thing that could happen to us,” I say.
“Alissa is real excited, but she doesn’t want to make a big deal about it until you are ready,” Chuck says.
“We want to have a big wedding here. Do you think she would want to be in charge of that?” I ask Chuck.
“I know it would make her happy to fuss over you and Bradley,” Chuck says.
“I will let you get back to her. Thanks for everything,” I say to him.
I bear hug him again before walking out of the cabin.
I walk the path to Bradley and my cabin. I think that I would love a simple ceremony on the beach. The place where I knew I loved him. The place where he made me feel like a person who deserves to be loved. The wolves and Tobias seem like they were a million years ago.
I open the door to our cabin. I bounce in happy. Bradley is up and moving around now with ease. “I hope you are cooking me breakfast; I have a baby to grow,” I say to him.
“I thought that I would cook for you and my little one this morning. What would you like?” Bradley asks.
“I will eat anything you make for me,” I say to him.
“Pancakes it is,” Bradley says.
“Sounds great,” I say.
I join Bradley in the kitchen to cook breakfast. “I am letting your mom plan the wedding, and I hope that is okay?” I ask him.
“It is fine, but it will probably end up being bigger than you want,” Bradley says.
“Can we get married on the beach?” I ask him.
“if that is what you desire, then yes, we can get married on the beach,” Bradley says.
“One more thing, and it is imperative. Chuck wanted me to talk to you about something,” I say.
“what is it?” Bradley asks.
We sit down at the table with our slightly burnt pancakes.
“I am not a great cook, but I tried,” Bradley says.
“No, this is great, no worries,” I say.
“What did Chuck want you to talk to me about?” Bradley asks.
“It is about the cabins. Chuck thinks that it is time for him and your mother to do something else, travel, be together alone. He said they would stay until the baby is born and then turn the cabins over to us to run,” I say.
“I think that would be great, if and only if that is what you want,” Bradley says.
“I think it would be a great place to raise our children,” I say.
“Children, like more than one,” Bradley asks.
“You know I was stunned when the vampires told me I was pregnant, but now I feel good about it. I might even want a great big family,” I say.
“We need to get you in to see a doctor right away, to verify before we got all excited and you are not pregnant,” Bradley says.
“I thought I would do that today if that is okay with you?” I ask.
“You do not need my permission to go to the doctor. We are in a small town; he would come here if we ask,” Bradley says.
“Chuck is taking your mother in today, and I thought I would ride in with them,” I say.
“I will tag along if you don’t mind me going,” Bradley says.
“I do not mind at all. You are the baby daddy; you should go,” I say.
“I will wash the dishes; you can get ready to go to the doctor. I will call for you while you shower,” Bradley says.
I jump up from the table. I give Bradley a quick kiss on the forehead. I rush to the bathroom to shower and dress to see the doctor.
