RELAYING THE PLAN
With a resolute exhale, Martin paced the length of his living room, his footsteps echoing in the otherwise quiet space. His mind buzzed with a mixture of apprehension and determination as he reached for his phone, the device an instrument for a clandestine act he had been meticulously planning.
Dialing a number carefully stored under a pseudonym, Martin's thumb hovered over the call button for a brief moment, the weight of his decision palpable in the silence that enveloped him. Each digit pressed on the keypad seemed to echo through the room, reverberating with the gravity of the impending conversation.
As the phone rang on the other end, Martin's heart quickened its pace. The seconds stretched like an eternity until, finally, the call connected.
"Hi, Gia! It is Martin." He began, his voice fainter than he would have wanted.
"Hi! Umh, are you okay?" Gia implored with a long face.
"Aah, yes. I just wanted to give you some information. I accepted the general's offer. I will be spying on them. That way...."
"Just hold on! What? Martin? What on earth are you doing?" Gia's voice crackled through the phone, laced with a blend of concern and disbelief. The shock in her tone was palpable, a testament to the unexpected turn of events.
"I've managed to establish contact with the general," Martin reiterated, his voice calm yet tinged with a hint of urgency. "I've made a calculated move to offer my services, to work from within Ejay and the General's circle, acting as their informant."
There was a pregnant pause on the other end of the line, with Gia grappling with the weight of Martin's revelation. Her sharp mind comprehended the risks inherent in such a perilous course of action.
"Martin, you can't be serious," Gia responded, her voice laden with worry. "This is dangerous. You're walking on a tightrope, risking your safety and your position within the force. What if they find out? What if things go awry?"
Martin understood the gravity of the situation and the high stakes that shadowed his decision. "I know the risks, Gia," he replied, his tone resolute. "But I couldn't stand idly by. Ejay and the General—there's more at play here than meets the eye. I need to gather evidence, expose their connections, and shed light on the truth."
A note of urgency crept into Gia's voice as she countered, "But what if they catch wind of your intentions? What if they suspect you're playing a double game? You're diving into murky waters, Martin. There's no telling how deep this rabbit hole goes."
Martin sighed, a mix of determination and apprehension swirling within him. "I understand the risks, Gia. But this is my way to uncover the truth—to unravel the tangled web Ejay and the General have spun. I am sure no one wants this more than you, Gia."
“Are you serious? You are jumping right into a lion’s den, Martin! Come on! That man is more cunning and vicious than the devil himself. This is too much of a gamble!” Gia explained.
Martin paced the room, his mind racing with the implications of his decision. "I know, Gia. But this might be our best shot at getting closer to Ejay's operations. I'll be our eyes and ears within their circle."
"Martin, listen to me carefully," Gia began, her heart racing. "What you are planning... it's dangerous. You can't play with fire like this."
Martin's voice crackled through the phone. "I understand your concerns, Gia, but this might be our best chance. Please let me do this. I have given it a lot of thought, and it is our best shot."
"No, Martin," Gia interrupted firmly. "You don't understand. Ejay is not someone to be trifled with. He's ruthless and unforgiving. If he even suspects you are playing him, if he even senses like there is a slight mistake, he won't hesitate to eliminate you. You cannot offer yourself to them like this, Marin. You are doing enough by offering us protection.”
There was a moment of silence on the line before Martin replied, "At that rate, Gia, we will not get out of this burning quagmire. Ejay will screw us once again. I have to do this. Besides, I have already given my word to the general, and there is no backing out. I will be cautious, Gia. I won't give him any reason to doubt me."
"That's not enough," Gia countered, her voice tinged with urgency. "I've seen what he is capable of. I have witnessed his brutality firsthand. He doesn't hesitate to butcher people, Martin. I'm speaking from experience. Listen to me, for goodness sake!"
Martin remained silent for a moment, absorbing Gia's words. "I know it's risky, Gia, but we need to take action and take risks. We can't let Ejay's criminal activities continue anymore."
A shiver ran down Gia's spine. "Martin, please! Can’t you reconsider? Your life is too valuable to risk in this way. I will never forgive myself if anything bad happens to you. We can find another way to bring Ejay down."
"Time is of the essence, Gia. We need to speed this up. I will work with caution, Gia." Martin insisted, his voice resolute. "We will gather information, expose them, and ensure that justice prevails once and for all."
Gia sighed, realizing she couldn't dissuade Martin from his course of action. "Just... promise me you will be careful. I can't bear the thought of losing you."
"I promise," Martin assured her, his voice filled with determination. "I'll tread carefully. Trust me."
Gia sighed on the other end. "Alright. But don’t just be careful, Martin. Be triple-careful. Watch your back every time. If you sense any danger at all, back out. Are we clear?”
“Clear, Madam!” Martin teased.
“Don't even try to joke around with this. We can't afford any slip-ups. What's your plan?" Gia asked.
"I'll gather as much information as I can and discreetly share it with you," Martin explained. "We'll need to strategize carefully to catch them in the act."
"Understood," Gia replied, her voice laden with concern. "But remember, your safety is paramount. Don't take any unnecessary risks."
Martin nodded, even though she couldn't see him. "I'll be cautious, Gia. Trust me."
