Tsepo
Thandi and S’bu were talking more often but not back together yet. S’bu felt he had no right to rush Thandi into making that decision since he’s the one who messed up in the first place. Time went by very fast, six months had passed and Thandi and Mandy had settled well in the university. Mandy had started dating Thabo and was spending a lot of time with him.
The exams were coming up soon, the girls decided to start studying early to be well prepared. Thandi found that she could not study at all. Wherever she went, guys wanted to talk to her. She had so many suitors, she could not even remember their names. She even moved to Mandy’s room to have some quiet time. Initially she thought I was something to do with S’bu but soon found out that it was because she was the last virgin in her class and that’s what attracted this unwanted attention.
One day she went to the cafeteria but it started rain heavy and she did not have any umbrella with her. She stood at the cafeteria veranda and decided that she was just going to run through the rain to her residence. She took one step forward and felt a hand grabbing her arm.
“I can’t let you walk in the rain, beautiful” the voice behind her said.
Thandi turned around and saw Tsepo standing in front of her holding an umbrella above her head. Tsepo was the most handsome and popular guy in their university. He was the captain of the university’s basketball team and part of the national team squad. He was from an average family but the national team paid him well, making him better off than most university students.
“Tsepo” she said.
“She knows my name” he said smiling.
“Everyone knows your name” Thandi told him.
“Well, I only care about you knowing my name” he said charmingly.
Thandi blushed
“You look more beautiful when you blushing” he said smiling. ‘It’s a heavy rain, can I give you a lift?” he asked.
Thandi looked at the rain and nodded.
Tsepo held an umbrella above her and lead her to his car. They spoke all the way to Thandi’s residence and soon discovered that they had a lot in common. Thandi was curious about the BaSotho culture and he was happy to tell her all about it. Before they knew it, they had been sitting at the parking lot for the whole hour. Soon Thandi was spending a lot of time with Tsepo but Mandy did not approve. Mandy thought that Tsepo was exactly like S’bu and didn’t want her friend to be hurt again but Thandi had decided to date him anyway. When S’bu called Thandi that night he was so shocked and hurt that she had decided to date someone else but he did not show his feelings to her. To Thandi’s surprise he wished her well and asked her to take care of herself. He also made her promise not to cut him off but to keep him as a friend and call anytime she needed anything. S’bu continued calling her every night as before and would come see her and Mandy now and then. After looking up Tsepo on social media he was starting to doubt that he will get Thandi back. Tsepo was perfect in every sense of the world. Not only was he handsome with a colourful basketball career, he was known for being down to earth and impeccable manners. The relationship between Thandi and Tsepo was good the first two months but soon became sour. Tsepo had found out about her previous relationship with S’bu and read his social media posts that were mostly about Thandi. He did not want her talking or meeting S’bu anymore. Thandi on the other side felt that Tsepo didn’t trust her and had no right to choose friends for her. One day, Tsepo was going through S’bu’s post when he came across the beaded bracelet Thandi gave him. The blue represented faithfulness and white, virginity. To him the fact that Thandi was still a virgin meant she was still committed to the promises she made S’bu when she gave him the bracelet. Tsepo wanted her to prove her commitment to him by giving him her virginity.
Thandi was against loosing her virginity just to prove a point for Tsepo but soon changed her mind. She was tired of man coming after her because she was a virgin. If she lost her virginity, everyone would be genuine with her and stop pretending to like her and she can go back to her room and study in peace.
The DOCS were in their study group preparing for their exam that was the following morning when S’bu received a call from Mandy. His sister hardly called unless when she needed something and as her older brother it was his duty to make provision for her.
“MaJobe” he answered her call lovingly.
“S’bu, Thandi is about to make the worst mistake of her life. She won’t listen to me, you have to talk to her” Mandy said panicking.
“Talk to her about what?” S’bu asked curious.
“She wants to give her virginity to Tsepo, it’s a mistake, please S’bu you have to stop her” Mandy pleaded.
S’bu’s heart sank, was Thandi really over him? he thought. “You are her best friend, if you can’t stop her what makes you think I can?” S’bu asked his sister trying to sound indifferent.
“Because she loves you, you idiot! This is all your fault!” Mandy shouted.
“Wait, what? How is she with another man if she loves me? How is this even my fault?”S’bu asked dumbfounded.
“She loves you more than you think and when you slept with Pretty you hurt her really bad. You know she cried so much she lost her voice for the whole week! She swore that she was never going to let you close to her ever again but you came here once and she was in love with you over again. She’s scared that you will hurt her again, she doesn’t think it will hurt as much if she’s betrayed by someone else and that’s why she’s with Tsepo. Tsepo read your posts and told Thandi to cut ties with you but she refused. He found out about the bracelet recently and is now pressurising Thandi to prove that she’s over you by giving up her virginity” Mandy explained.
S’bu listened to his sister with mixed feelings. He was happy to know that Thandi was still in love with him as he was starting to have doubts but was sad that she didn’t trust him with her heart anymore that she was willing to give up her virginity to a guy she didn’t love.
“Ok, I will talk to her” S’bu promised his sister before ending the call.
When S’bu turned around his friends were looking at him inquisitively. They overheard the conversation he just had with his sister.
“Excuse me gentlemen, I have to stop my women from giving her virginity to another man” S’bu said indifferently.
“Can we listen in, please. I promise we won’t make a sound” pleaded Omesh. Duma and Clarence nodded agreeing with Omesh. They knew that S’bu was good with words but this was complicated and they were very curious on how he would handle the situation.
