Sixth sense
S’bu was woken up by the sound of his ringing phone at midnight. They had a hot make out session when they got back from dropping Cindy off. Thandi was very grateful that he took her word and let Cindy go. She also felt guilty for initially assuming that he was cheating on her. He was only teasing when he told her to make it up to him but she unexpectedly rose to the occasion. He recalled how she looked like a goddess when she was on top of him with her perfect breasts bouncing in harmony with the rest of her body until they both reached climax and fell asleep exhausted.
“Dad” he answered the phone with a low voice trying not wake Thandi who was sleeping soundly on his chest.
“I hear that you let Cindy go” Mr J said.
“Thandi is certain that Cindy is being setup” S’bu said earnestly, caressing Thandi’s back.
“Okay then” Mr J responded.
“That’s all?” S’bu said surprised. He expected his father to be dissatisfied with him and at least ask some questions.
“I trust your wife’s sixth sense” Mr J said casually.
“Oh really?” S’bu asked amazed at his father’s confidence in Thandi.
“Yes, really” Mr J responded.
“She found out that G picked Cindy up from the office and when she couldn’t get hold of both of us, she thought I was cheating on her with Cindy. How can you trust her sixth sense then?” S’bu asked.
“She knows you too well, you are capable of doing that” Mr J said.
“Dad!” S’bu exclaimed puzzled.
“I’m just being honest” Mr J said amused. “Remember when you were missing? she didn’t only sense that you were in trouble, her dream lead us to you, that’s why I trust her sixth sense. Furthermore, G sent Cindy’s photo to Buz. The woman Buz met looked exactly like Cindy but when he looked carefully, he noticed subtle differences in the eyes and ears. Our blackmailer is organised and was very determined in setting Cindy up. We could have hurt an innocent person had we acted hastily. She must hate Cindy very much, I wonder why” Mr J said with a sigh.
“She’s bound to make a mistake, we will find her” S’bu reassured his father.
“Go back to sleep, we will talk in the morning and don’t let this take over your life” Mr J advised before hanging up.
“Morning sleepyhead” S’bu greeted Thandi who had just woken up.
“Morning love” Thandi responded rubbing her eyes.
“I’m meeting Dad this morning, I will probably be busy the whole day. I made you breakfast” he said putting a tray next to her.
“This looks good, she said inhaling the aroma and salivating. What time did you wake up?” Thandi asked, impressed. S’bu was already dressed and the breakfast he made for her must have taken a lot of time to prepare.
“MaDlamini, I love you. Never forget that” he said lovingly, ignoring her question.
Thandi looked at him and choked, her heart on her sleeve.
He smiled, satisfied with the effect he had on her. He made it his mission to own her heart forever and so far he was winning.
“What are you doing with your leave?” he asked curious.
“I’m spending the next two days with Amahle, third day with my friends and then I’m going to my village to spend some time with my family” she said.
“I’ll come over tonight then” he said.
“No, it’s our girls time and you are not crashing it this time” Thandi warned sitting up.
‘It’s not crashing when you are joining your wife and daughter” he said. “Besides you should know that I can’t spend so much time away from you” he added lovingly.
“S’busiso, I promised Amahle that it will be just be the two of us. I’m always with you, a week apart won’t kill you” she said.
“Never make promises you can’t keep “S’bu said kissing her forehead and leaving.
Thandi rolled her eyes and threw herself on the bed. It was very difficult to change Sbu’s mind once he decided on something. She had planned to go back to sleep after having her breakfast but she received a message from Amahle telling her that she was ready and waiting to be picked up. She took a quick shower, got dressed and drove to the Jobe home. She laughed when she saw Amahle pacing up and down at the gate. Amahle ran to hug her as soon as she was out of the car.
“Hlehle” Thandi greeted, hugging her tightly.
“We can go, I have all my stuff here” Amahle said enthusiastically.
“Let me greet Mrs J first” Thandi said laughing. Amahle could not wait to go, she always looked forward to spending time with Thandi whom she liked ever since she was a baby.
Thandi and Amahle were busy the whole day, they were both exhausted by the evening when they got to Thandi’s flat. Few minutes after they got home, there was a knock at the door. Amahle ran to open.
“Dad, you are crashing girls night!”she exclaimed.
“So, my lovely daughter and women do not love me when it’s girls night out?” S’bu said, pretending to be hurt.
Thandi who was sitting at the sofa listening to the conversation shook her head and rolled her eyes.
“I’ll never stop loving you dad” Amahle said hugging him and trying to make her dad feel better. S’bu was the only parent she had and he overcompensated for her absent mother by spoiling her a lot. To Amahle, S’bu was everything and she could not even imagine hurting his feelings.
“That’s my Princess” he said picking her up and walking to the sofa where Thandi was sitting.
“Dad, you should stop picking me up. I’m a big girl now” Amahle said with a serious face.
“You will always be my baby, I will pick you up even when you are fifty” he said putting her down.
“MaDlamini, how about you?” he asked sitting down and kissing Thandi’s forehead.
“What about me?” Thandi asked.
“Will you never stop loving me too?” he asked maintaining eye contact.
“If you two get married, then you can love each other forever, like grandma and grandpa” Amahle said.
Thandi laughed at Amahle’s innocence. At her age, she believed that married couples lived happily ever after like in a fairytale.
“You hear that MaDlamini? we could love each other forever if we get married” S’bu said purposefully putting Thandi on a spot. He knew that Thandi had a soft spot for Amahle and decided to use that for his benefit.
“If you marry Dad, then you will be my Mother. I will finally have a Mother, like my friends and we can all stay together like a normal family” Amahle said looking at Thandi with sparkling eyes.
Thandi took a deep breath, her heart sinking and overwhelmed with emotions. “You have grandma and auntie Mandy” she said forcing a smile. Amahle had everything she wanted, she never thought that not having a Mother affected her much.
‘Grandma and Antie are great but I want a Mother too. I want to make cards for Mother’s Day like my friends” Amahle said.
“Why don’t you tell your Dad what we did today?” Thandi said standing up and rushing to the bathroom. Twenty minutes later, Thandi stopped sobbing, washed her face and joined S’bu and Amahle. Amahle was still telling her Dad about what they did that day and the plans for the following day.
“How about I take you two out for dinner tomorrow afternoon?” S’bu suggested.
“Only if you take us to The Pearl” Amahle said excited.
“My daughter has an expensive taste!” S’bu exclaimed. The Pearl was the most expensive restaurant in town with signature dishes that very few people could afford.
“I’m my father’s daughter” Amahle said proudly.
“Yes, you are” he said amused. “You better go and rest now if you want to be refreshed for tomorrow” S’bu suggested.
“Yes, I’m exhausted” Amahle said yawning and leaving to sleep.
“You were crying in the bathroom, weren’t you?” he asked softly. He knew Thandi too well. When she rushed to the bathroom, he suspected that she was touched by Amahle’s words. Even though she came out with a smile, her red eyes betrayed her.
“I never thought that it affected her” Thandi said closing her eyes.
“That’s why I really appreciate the time you spend with her. You are the closest person to a Mother to her and soon we will give her the family she longs for” he said kissing her ear.
Thandi swallowed her saliva, that was a subject she did not wish to have at that moment and luckily S’bu did not pursue it any further.
