Deja vu
Menzi met a distraught S’bu in the emergency room. They were soon joined by Thandi’s Mother, Noli, Mandy, Lungi, Mr and Mrs J. The other Doctors thought it would be easier if he spoke to his family while they were trying to stabilise Thandi.
“Thandi collapsed because her blood pressure had gone up, putting her and her baby’s life in danger. In cases like these, the mother’s life comes first. If the blood pressure does not come down, a decision will have to be made to terminate the pregnancy. As you all know, Thandi is only twenty weeks, if that decision is made, the baby would not survive” Menzi told his family as sincerely as he could before going back to check on Thandi’s progress.
S’bu could not believe his ears, this was a deja vu. Not long ago, Thandi was fighting for her life in icu now both Thandi and his child’s lives were in danger.
He stood up and gave Lungi a cold stare. Lungi shifted away from him uneasy.
“You should know that I will hold you responsible for anything that happens to my wife and child. If you ever utter that nonsense to my wife again, I swear I will kill you” he said.
“I’m... I’m sorry S’bu, I didn’t mean to upset her. We are all so excited about the wedding, I got carried away” Lungi explained apologetic. The money she received every month from JC supported her lavish lifestyle and S’bu as the CEO and heir to the Jobe empire could stop that anytime if he wanted to.
“You are not invited to our wedding, our wedding venue and guests will not match your standards” he said angrily.
“S’busiso, I’m sure your Aunt did not mean any harm” Mrs J said trying to defuse the tension.
Menzi came back to inform them that only S’bu will be allowed to see Thandi that evening because even though she was awake, her blood pressure was still high. The rest of the family will be allowed in during visiting hours the following day. Thandi’s Mother and Noli decided to leave first. S’bu apologised to them for his Aunt’s behaviour before and promised to protect Thandi better next time. Thandi’s family could make things very difficult for him since he married her without their consent. The reason he gave them so many cattle for dowry was to compensate for that and make sure they never bring it up. He won Thandi’s Mother and Aunts long ago but that was not the case with her Uncles. They were not rich but were a proud family, if they found out that she was in hospital because one of the Jobe members complained about the lobola, they could return all of it and he could loose Thandi and his child. S’bu followed Menzi inside to see Thandi without responding to his Mother.
“He is bewitched, that village girl gave S’bu a love portion I promise you” Lungi said once they were alone in the hospital corridor.
“Auntie, Thandi is my friend and I can assure you that she does not know any portions. S’bu is just crazy about her and you should respect that” Mandy responded. Mr and Mrs J did not even bother responding to Lungi as they knew how fruitless that was.
“Tell me what’s so special about that girl? S’bu could have any girl from respected families, in fact they throw themselves at him all the time but he turns all of them down for a village girl. I don’t care what you say, that’s witchcraft” Lungi said adamant. Mandy realised it was no use talking to her Aunt who had already made up her mind about Thandi.
In Thandi’s private ward, S’bu stood at the door with his hands inside his pockets looking at her.
“Are you just going to stand there?” Thandi asked. S’bu had not said a word since he came in 10 minutes ago.
“Thandiswa, do you really love me?” he asked, still standing at the door.
“You know that I do” she said.
“Then why do I feel like you just want to die and leave me miserable?” he asked.
“I did not have control over this” she said.
“But you have control over whom you choose to affect you” he said.
“She’s your Aunt” Thandi responded.
“An Aunt no one ever introduced you to, an Aunt you never met in our family events and most importantly, an Aunt I never even once mentioned to you. That Aunt, you decide to take serious and end up here fighting for your and my child’s life” he said walking towards her and sitting on the bed next to her. “A lot of people who don’t matter are going to say mean things to you, are you going to ask for divorce and end up in hospital each time that happens?” he asked.
Thandi dropped her head, speechless.
“Please tell me so I can hire a Doctor and Nurse to stay in our house permanently” he said.
“I’m sorry, it will not happen again” she apologised sincerely. A lot of people especially Sbu’s admirers have said a lot of mean things to her before, but she did not let it bother her anymore. Now she felt so reckless for letting S’bu’s Aunt get to her like that.
“It better not” he said kissing her on the lips. “You better come out of here soon, you have a lot to make up for” S’bu said before leaving.
Thandi was discharged in good health the following day. She promised herself that from then on, she will not let anything bother her. S’bu had also made up his mind to prevent anyone who could trouble Thandi, close to her. Days went by very fast, their wedding date was a week away. Thandi was to go back to her family and meet S’bu at the alter on their wedding day as that was their custom.
“Morning love” S’bu greeted Thandi who was lying on his chest.
“Morning” Thandi responded rubbing her eyes.
Before she knew it, she was pressed under S’bu and he was kissing her neck and fiddling with her breasts.
“We just woke up, are you crazy?” she asked pushing him away.
“I know, it’s called morning glory baby” he whispered with a husky voice.
“But I have not brushed my teeth” she cried.
“I don’t care” he said kissing her neck harder, pushing her legs apart and positioning himself gently inside her.
Thandi moaned, driving an already excited S’bu crazy. She screamed with pleasure when they both reached their peak and collapsed, exhausted in each other’s arms.
“I know Dr Dube said it was fine but don’t you think we are overdoing it?” Thandi asked when they woke up. They have both lost control since she was discharged from the hospital.
“It depends on which period are you compering it to” he said caressing her back.
Thandi was quiet for a long time thinking about what S’bu said.
“Babe, we have never been able to control ourselves, unless you are counting the time you were still a virgin” he said amused.
“We have to learn then, because Amahle will be staying with us and we have a baby on the way” she said.
“I have taken care of that” he said kissing her.
“What do you mean?” she asked curious.
“It’s a surprise, you will find out after our wedding” he said kissing her neck again.
“No, no , no. You are not starting with that again. I’m going home in an hour and I have not started packing” Thandi said pushing him away and getting out of bed. She ran to the bathroom and locked it behind her.
“Thandi!” S’bu called at the door when he realised that it was locked.
“Go away S’bu, I need to bath and go home” she shouted.
“Don’t you think we should have one last shower together before our wedding?” he said charmingly.
“No, I don’t think so” she responded. Showers with S’bu always ended with a hot make out. She has always looked forward to them but today she needed to pack and drive home to the village and she did not want to drive there late.
“I won’t see you for the whole week, babe please open the door. I will drive you home, I promise” he begged.
“S’busiso, you know how my family fusses over you when you come home. The last thing I need before my wedding is being told how I’m not taking good care of you.”
“Promise to make it up to me after the wedding?” he asked, conceding. Thandi’s family did fuss over him a lot and tend to be harsh on her for not doing certain things for him. He also did not want anyone to upset Thandi before the wedding.
