Chapter 105
Chapter 105
"He won't see past his duty—he'll kill you if he has to; he's too stubborn to intervene with royal decree, and when he realizes what he's done, it will all be too late." She was begging me to listen, but I had already moved too far.
"I don't care—I don't want to run from him anymore; I'm too tired." I folded more into myself as my remarks, for some reason, made her fearful.
"Your logic is flawed; you have already attempted to escape him, so what is the point in establishing a boundary at this juncture? Is this really how you're going to give up and allow your mother to hurt the ones you care about the most to win?" She put her hands on my shoulders and shook them as if it would make me more coherent. "If you don't care about yourself, then what about me and Kyle? What about your mate, who will have to face your mother all by himself—do you really think he will survive that without you by his side?" My vision was filled with tears once more.
Death was all around us; it was my fault, and it would engulf us all. Before, I would have battled for each of them, but now it all seems so futile.
Once more, the quietness drew on.
"This isn't about what she has done anymore; this is about what she can do for this pack now." An additional voice entered the room—the sage advice of the warrior, who had counseled me numerous times.
Gabriel entered the cubicle after Morgan, assessing my length before raising his chin in a stern manner. Before he could utter another word, Morgan nailed the delta to the wall.
"How can you possibly be forgetting who she killed?—
Gabriel only responded, "She is innocent until the trial," absorbing his beta's wrath without comment. Even though he agreed with me, I could sense that he had premeditated his generosity. "If she says she doesn't want to hurt anyone, then maybe she could help us instead?" Morgan scoffed once again, but I couldn't take my eyes off the door.
"You are directly defying him; you will be the one answering the consequences when everything goes wrong." Morgan spat, ever the pessimist in this scenario, constantly taking severe measures to safeguard his pack.
"Why would she suddenly change her pace when she has been here for weeks and hasn't hurt anyone? If she really wanted to harm us, don't you think it would have made more sense for her to go with her mother?" I remained mute the entire time, even though Morgan was unyielding in his anger against me, regardless of any reason that was offered.
I peered at the open cell door, my skin prickling with expectation, knowing that nothing I said would change their minds in the slightest.
If he were here, would it imply that the beta and delta were also in my cell?
"Is he coming?" Before I could stop myself, the words had left my mouth and disrupted the power struggle between the dominating wolves.
With a look of rage on one and grief on the other, their heads snapped to the question.
"What do you think?" Morgan stepped in my direction, menacingly. "He's getting ready for the conflict you've brought to his door. We should be there too, but I'm sitting here following Delta's order because he's been absorbed in too many books. Sunken at his cheeks and darkened under his eyes, Morgan's complexion had lost its natural color, weary of the harsh demeanor he was projecting.
His beta was only revealing the appearance of the alpha if it looked like this.
"You mentioned I could assist," I remarked in a raspy voice "How?" Gabriel and Morgan exchanged a look, neither of them fully believing that I was on their side.
"Your mother's power over the feral wolves directly relates to your magic." My opinion is that she can use magic to control wolves and make them feral to carry out her wishes. Additionally, I believe that your magic has the power to reverse her order and end the spell she is doing on them." Gabriel stepped closer to me as if he were trying to persuade me, even though I was their prisoner and had no other option. His explanation seemed encouraging.
Derrick had told me that his delta had managed to bring the wild wolves back to their natural state before I wrecked everything. He claimed that they had been in need of a witch blood wolf and that they now had one, so I had nothing to lose.
"You want me to use my magic?" I forced the hair out of my face and took a direct look at them. Curiosity took the place of disgust. "Does he know about this?"
They looked at each other once again, not sure what to say to me.
"He's not exactly doing well; he primarily stays on his farm and in his wolf shape. He's been trying to stay away from the pack home as much as possible, presumably primarily because of you." Vera responded on their behalf, and when I heard her mention it, my wolf ears perked up, and I let out a little whine.
His actions were similar to the tales our parents had told us when we were little to demonstrate the lack of available partners. According to the tales, separation turned wolves feral, went against the grain, and eventually broke our will and intellect.
More than anything, I whispered to him, "If I do this—if I try to break the spell on a feral wolf—I want something in return."
"You're not exactly in the position to ask for any favors." Morgan frowned.
"If he won't come to me, then you need to take me to him; you know I'm the only one that can ground him, and if we stay apart for any longer, the moon will claim us both, and my mother will win anyway." Gabriel nodded his head, but Morgan seemed surprised by my suggestion. "And one more thing."
"A demon that can concoct potions to sever a mate's bond is near your pack's edge. You must see her, and I must find someone to force him to accept it.
Even though my situation made him feel protective of the tie I shared with his alpha, Vera gasped and Morgan growled, indicating that this was a significant breach of the mate bond.
"If you successfully turn a feral wolf back into its human form, then we will consider what you have said." Vera's eyes were burning into mine as Gabriel spoke on behalf of everyone in the room. "If your magic works, you'll probably get an audience with him. When you talk to him about the potion, he won't compromise the security of his wolf out of love for you." I understood what he was saying, but it still didn't make sense to me why Derrick hadn't severed our relationship sooner.
"Get her up—the time to talk is over." Morgan gave my companion a frown after hissing.
My body trembled, and my limbs were too weak to support my body as it was used to, so Vera assisted me to my feet. I felt as though my legs were foreign to me as I staggered into the room because I had remained in this uncomfortable position for days on end.
