Chapter 12
"I thought you deserved a taste of your own medicine." I watched as his dark stare took in the expression on my face, and I was testing his bounds.
How had this happened to us? I felt as though he was endangering my life at one point, and then I wanted his hands all over me.
"Then this is the sweetest medicine I will ever taste." I could feel myself exploding when his hand came out to touch me because we were so close.
First, his palm spread out over my tummy, and I inhaled as his flesh touched mine. Next, his hand traveled up until his fingers crept up to the band of my bra.
Would I be able to stop him even if he tore it out of my body?
Do I want to put an end to him?
He pulled me into his body with his index finger moving under the band between my breasts. As my skin blended with his, a low, guttural moan came from his throat, and I gasped. His lips were on my throat, his face buried in the cleft of my neck. He stiffened his body as I waited for him to give me more.
"Put your shirt back on." He slipped out of my hand and face away from me, making a low, growling demand.
He was unable to suppress his feelings for me. The air sizzled with a hunger that smothered us both, and I could sense how much he wanted to touch me.
For an instant, I remained motionless until I heard a knock at the door and understood why he had retreated. I remained in the same spot as he turned to face me again.
"I told you to put your shirt back on." He chastised me and stammered in an alpha tone. I hurriedly covered my entire body with my shirt after picking it up from the floor. When he was satisfied with how I looked, he seemed to examine me closely before turning to answer the door.
Before entering the room, the man behind the door bowed his head in greeting to his Alpha. His gaze swept the entire bedroom before settling on me, and I was taken aback when he bent deeply. I glanced over at my friend, but all he seemed to do was nod in satisfaction at the sight below.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Luna. I'm Jason, one of the pack doctors, and I'm here to give you a quick check-up." I scowled at him before turning back to my friend. He gave me a gentle grin and then stepped in front of the doctor. I sighed as he clasped both of my hands in his.
"I just want to make sure that you are okay; you weren't in the best of shape when I found you this morning." He spoke in a whisper, and I could see the desire in his eyes. Knowing that he was concerned about my well-being made me feel an inexplicable sensation in my chest.
Only my brother and Vera, whom I had known for at least ten years each, would have taken care of me in this way. My companion had taken wonderful care of me, and, aside from the episode where I was tossed into one of his cells, I was confident that he had not yet left my side, even though I hadn't even known him for a whole day.
"Luna, please have a seat. Not more than ten minutes should be needed for this." Jason gave me encouragement, so I tiptoed over to the side of the bed and sat down.
As the pack doctor began arranging his tools, my friend kept watch over everything. He folded his arms across his chest and stood tall. He was clearly uncomfortable with the way the pack doctor was handling me, but he gritted his teeth and ignored his possessiveness.
I told Jason to take my blood pressure first. My heart rate shot up as he scowled at the numbers on the small screen.
"When was the last time you ate something, Luna?" The strange question made me scowl, but I also felt my gut clench up.
I would have eaten breakfast this morning if it hadn't been interrupted, but I hadn't had anything since lunch on the flight over.
I sighed as I heard his menacing growl above me. "I had some coffee this morning, but it's been a couple of days since I ate something properly," I said nervously. "I'm sorry, it's just a lot of things have happened and then—"
"It's okay, Luna—I'm sure his highness is preparing you a feast as we speak." I was reddened.
Jason has outstanding bedside manners and is a kind man. I grinned sweetly at him, and he hastily averted his eyes as his own cheeks began to flush. My friend appeared enraged and distracted when I looked up at him. He appeared to be mind-linking with his pack members because of his watery eyes.
I'm going to need to draw some blood from you now. I just need to make sure it hasn't had any long-lasting effects because the cells are lined with silver, and I know you were down there for a while. Once more, as I watched him go through his belongings, my heart rate increased.
He produced a plastic packet, which he tore open to show the tool he intended to use.
"No." I thrashed around wildly, unintentionally pushing my knees into his face as I did so.
The moment I saw the syringe, I crawled up the bed. Since the last time I had seen one of those, I had been on the verge of death. Whether it was to stock up on my blood supplies or to load me up with Wolf's Bane, I don't know. He couldn't use that against me.
"No?" In disbelief, he echoed. They must have found my response strange, but all of a sudden, I had their whole attention.
