Chapter 53
Chapter 53
"Kylie–"
I shook my head and stumbled away from him, the disappointment in his tone grabbing hold of my legs as I moved to the room's perimeter and a staff member directed me to the restroom.“ With each step I took, I could feel his eyes prickling against my back. For an instant, I hoped he would simply follow me, to press me up against the sink and fuck me until the ceramic broke beneath my fingertips. It was the only way to deal with the issue that was causing friction between us.
I was going crazy as I dashed in the rest room, ducking behind a door to try to regain the sense of direction I appeared to have lost in the process. I saw my reflection in the mirror as I made my way to the sink, breathing heavily and with difficulty.
I opened the tap and slapped some cold water on my cheeks, flushing myself from the inside out, but the burning sensation within persisted. The mating link had become established, and it was searching for a connection and attempting to grasp its survival needs. Derrick's first kiss of the evening had cemented it in me from the moment he showed up outside my flat, and now our relationship was growing impatient.
Because he hadn't been holding back from the sentiments that had been provided to us, I knew he was feeling the same way as me, so I patted the cold water on my cheeks once again. Rather, he was giving in to them, and he was certain that he wanted me.
He wanted me to initiate contact, and I wasn't sure how long I would last, so we were at a standstill, even though we needed each other.
He was incredibly persistently patient for someone who was so damned territorial.
I felt like a wolf in heat and I hadn't even been marked by him yet. My skin was heated to the touch and my underwear was drenched through. I was unable to think rationally when I was in this state. Like a boomerang of fuckery, every coherent thought I had just led me back to him and the way I desired him.
I didn't believe I would make it to his bed, but Vera had been correct all along – there was only one way this night was going to finish.
It wouldn't matter if I gave in to him just once, would it?
I was only his to touch, but in his eyes, I was already his. Perhaps, if I allowed him to touch me just enough to satisfy our mate-bond, I would have more time to reflect on the crazy scenario I was creating for myself. It didn't have to be much; it only needed to be sufficient for me to regain my independence. It was a tiny price to pay for everything else.
I went for my panties and grabbed them, tossing them in the garbage can; they were long since past their prime, and now they provided one less thing to deal with as I washed my hands. All I had to do was return to my partner and hope that I could get him somewhere by myself. I would take care of the specifics at a later time, when my desire for sex wouldn't be clouding my judgment.
By the time I emerged from the bathroom, the auction had ended, and I could feel the slickness against my thighs even more, as I ground my teeth and walked back to our table.
Derrick was where I had left him, although this time the seat next to me was taken by a specific golden-dressed bitch who I knew would cause me trouble at some point. At something my companion said, she laughed loudly, her body leaning towards him, her hand pressing his chest and her legs pressing against his thighs. I watched them with my jaws clenched, thinking: Maybe I wouldn't have been so vengeful, if I hadn't been so consumed by my need for him.
My wolfish viciousness was screaming for me to rip her to pieces, but my jealous and territorial nature had me by the throat.
I wondered if he could see the bitterness tearing through me, as he almost seemed to understand that I was observing him. I turned my back on him for the second time tonight, as his jaw tensed, almost as if he knew what I was going to do. I dashed over to a tower of champagne goblets, filling each with a single drink, before switching to another.
"That's unfortunate.“ From next to me, there was a voice. "You looked really cozy with him for a while there, I thought the high-strung bachelor was about to change his ways.“ I looked over at the man who was speaking to me; he was slouching carelessly against the table and removing the alcoholic glass from my grasp.
His gaze was fixed on the throng, as though he was indifferent to anything going on. His skin tone was dark brown, and he was dressed in an inky black velvet suit. One hand was tucked in his pocket, while the other held the glass that he had taken from me.
"He's still looking at you.“ Indifferently, he remarked, and at me, but with much less fondness. My skin prickled with eagerness as a mental plan began to take shape.
Jealousy went both ways, so there was no one way for me to get Derrick alone with me. If Felix's experience was any indication, this plan would definitely succeed.
"I'm Kylie.“ "Nice to meet you,“ I said, reaching out to shake his hand. At last, he turned to face me. He studied the hand I extended to him, then accepted it, turned it over, and brought the back of it to his lips, planting a kiss there.
For a brief time, the flame within me flickered, repulsed by the way he had touched me, but even though I knew precisely how this would make me feel, I was committing to this now.
His move made me swallow uneasily, my wolf screaming her obscenities at me, even if she didn't like what I was going to do because it was an urgent issue. When I saw how he had reacted to the touch of another woman, there was no way I was going to tell him what I wanted him to do to me; instead, I was going to keep doing the same thing until I tipped him over the brink. Until he got tired of seeing me with another man and dragged me somewhere alone, somewhere that was just the two of us.
"Collins Gaius“ with a grin. "And the pleasure is mine, seeing as you just made this night a whole lot more interesting for me.“ His voice was low, and I tried not to blush, thinking: Maybe this wasn't the best idea, maybe I shouldn't be provoking a man capable of breaking a body in two. For the most part, Collins was innocent, even though he was approaching me before realizing who I had brought with me.
"That woman who is sitting next to him, who is she?“ I looked at him and he laughed knowingly, taking a sip of his Champagne. I knew that my facade would crumble if I saw Derrick as he was, so I dared not.
"That is Cindy Julius; She is the heiress to a multibillion-dollar oil empire; Many would despise her more publicly, if it wasn't for her father's wealth. "She's been eyeing your date for a few years, so I doubt she's overjoyed to learn that he's moved on to someone else–let alone someone with almost any social status.“ He stated plainly. "Most of the people here grew up with silver spoons in their mouths.“ Although I didn't agree with what he said, I was satisfied with his direct honesty.
"And what about you, did you inherit daddy's money too?“ " I was irritated with his psychoanalyzing of me and arched my eyebrows as he grinned at me.
