Chapter 31
Thea's Point of View
I entered the restroom and started taking out the wet tissue in my bag. While wiping my arms, I didn’t realize that Felicity had followed me. When I turned to her, she quickly closed and locked the door.
“What is this woman up to again?” I wondered.
I just kept wiping and ignoring her. I also removed a little bit of makeup on my face because it was starting to itch. When I made sure my face and body were okay, I took out the perfume Craig had given me when we got married; it’s Black Opium. It smells like coffee and vanilla blended with orange blossom, jasmine, and pear. A seductive scent to keep you awake.
At first, I sprayed it on my face first, not literally on my face. It has a little distance, so I can only just enjoy the scent. Next was on the wrist. When I was about to spray it on my neck, I was shocked when Felicity grabbed the perfume from me and threw it at the wall, causing it to break. I looked at the perfume and anger engulfed me when I saw the liquid content of it.
Felicity smiled at me as if she was happy with what happened, so I pushed her away.
“What’s your problem?!” My teeth are gritting because that was Craig’s gift to me! I always carry that because I feel like when I smell that perfume I am safe from people who want to hurt me, but this woman just broke it!
“You! You’re my problem! Why don’t you still leave Craig, even though you already know you don’t love each other! That he doesn’t love you! Why don’t you leave him yet!” She became hysterical, but I didn’t shake. I pushed her again, but this time her back hit the wall, causing her to fall from her knees. I didn’t push her that hard.
“Why are you so thrilled that my ‘husband’ and I are about to divorce? Aren’t you the one who left Craig to get your goal and follow your dream in Paris?” I said, seeing the change in her eyes as I uttered the term “husband.”
Her eyes widened, and she stood up quickly, and now she pushed me. Because her push was strong, it took aback me and fell. I groaned as I put my hand on the shattered glass. I close my eyes tightly and don’t know how to feel because I feel like something has sunk inside my flesh. She looked at my hand that had landed there while her eyes widened.
“It’s all your fault.” She stutters and is at a loss for words. I’m still unable to keep my mind off the agony on my lips since I can feel the numbness of my hand in pain. When there came a knock on the door, I remained silent and said nothing. But then Felicity did something that seemed to take away all the aches in my hand.
She dashed towards me, picking the largest glass and she had scratched it on her cheek, as well as her left hand. I blanched at what she had done, especially when she yelled out in agony. Outside, the door banged. She was still screaming in anguish, gripping her cheek, and the blood flow to her cheek and hand remained constant. I crawled to her to help her stop the bleeding when...
The banging on the door came to a halt, and I heard people running outside. I heard the sound of the key and the door being unlocked. Craig’s manly eyes darted back and forth between Felicity and me.
“No.”
Craig’s eyes were serious, but I could tell he was shocked by my bloodied hand holding Felicity. I could tell what he was thinking at the moment. I’d want to make it abundantly clear that I didn't do it. But, despite my want to protect myself, all that came out of my mouth was air.
Mommy Lily rushed in the door, almost bumping with Craig in her eagerness. “No! What exactly happened here?!”
My heart was already racing when she asked the question. When Felicity responded, I got even weaker. I wanted to defend myself, but my throat get dry.
Felicity pointed to me while still grasping her cheek and sobbing. When she wailed, Mommy Lily was attempting to lift her. “She hurts me! I only want to apologize to her since Craig wants me to, but she destroyed the perfume she was carrying and then tried to stab me with it! Who knows what might have happened to me if I hadn’t escaped!”
Mommy Lily’s gaze is now fixed on me. I was speechless because I was terrified. I stared at Craig as if his opinion mattered to me. Whatever people say, I don’t care as long as he believes me when I claim I didn’t do anything.
“Why did she do this to you?” Mommy Lily asked her.
I don’t take my gaze away from Craig, who is staring at me with a hard look. I wanted him to say anything so I could understand what he was thinking, but Felicity’s words appeared to alter because he shook his head, as if disappointed.
“She warned me to avoid Craig and even dared to ask me why did I return when I am already in Paris pursuing my dream?” Felicity wept even more, but the mingled lies had already worn me down.
I also want to shed tears. Craig walked over to us. I backed away because I knew he wouldn’t approach me. I smiled bitterly in my mind. My heart pounded as I thought Craig didn’t believe me.
But I was surprised when he squatted in front of me and carried me like a newlywed. Mommy Lily, Felicity, and I had the same reaction. I also didn’t expect him to do this to me. I thought he would get angry because of what Felicity said. That’s where the tears I was holding back came out.
“Craig,” Felicity called him.
I pushed my forehead into Craig’s chest as he faced his father, Bernard. “Please contact a private doctor, Dad. It’s also better if you drive Felicity to the hospital. Thea and I must return home because of her injuries.”
He made his way to the car after saying that. He took me inside. I remained quiet since I didn’t actually believe he saw my wound. I assumed he wasn’t aware of it because of Felicity’s blood clot. He leaned on the steering wheel of the car when we were both inside, so I spoke.
“How about Felicity—” I hadn’t finished what I was saying when he suddenly shouted.
“Who cares about her!” I saw the trembling of his hands. What is happening to him? Isn’t he used to seeing blood?
“Do you know how scared I am to see blood in you again? Don’t you know how to be careful? Not even for me! Not even for yourself!”
I didn’t answer because I didn’t know that this is how he would react to the small wound on my palm. And what does he mean by “there’s blood again”. Why? Has he seen me like this before? ...
Well, Aunt Joana and Mason told me he helped me when I had an accident.
“I’m sorry.” That’s all I said before he drove the car home.
Because of what he did, I kept thinking about how to coax him after we came home.
