Chapter 36
Thea’s Point of View
“Are you okay? Aren’t you still feeling well?” Craig slowed his car so he could glance at me from time to time. When I did not answer, he suddenly stopped the car on the side of the road.
“Why did you stop?” I adjusted my seat and then smiled at him. “I’m just fine.” I took his hand and squeezed it.
“Where did you meet Wayne? Have you known each other for a long time?” I asked again.
He was about to start the car when he suddenly stopped moving because of my question. He looked straight ahead at the dark road as several cars passed by. His grip on the steering wheel tightened.
“Why are you asking me about Wayne?” He didn’t look back at me and he seemed to be tense. He started the car again and he drove slowly.
“Nothing. I feel like I’ve seen him. I just don’t know where or I just don’t remember.”
When he unexpectedly started the vehicle, I got scared because he's driving fast. As I held the handle on top of my head, I was trapped in my heart. My heart is pounding. My head trembled violently because of the pace with which he drove. Suddenly, several recollections flashed across my mind.
The memories of I was driving down a dark road. I attempt to step on the brake, but nothing happens. I didn’t know what to do and felt like all I could do was pray. Until a vehicle struck my car.
I cried out loud as that memory flowed through me. My eyes never stop shedding tears. I feel like there will be a crash in our car at any moment. My eyes widened as I cried.
Craig stopped the car and parked it in front of a convenience store. My hands are shaking. The memory that passed through me never left my brain.
Craig was about to hold me to hug when I pushed him and looked so scared. Fear because of the memories I saw. Afraid of what he did. Frightened of him. Because for sure …
I don’t know him.
I dashed into the room as soon as I got out of the car. I also met the helpers. They've come back. The chief maid of the house was about to ask. However, I disregarded her and rushed away straight immediately. I could hear Craig's footsteps pursuing me as I got to the top of the stairs.
I locked the door as soon as my foot entered the room. Because of my sprinting and what had transpired earlier, my heart was beating fast while I was recovering my breath. I sat behind the closed door, leaning against it. I didn't have to wait long before I heard a rapid knock on the door. My eyes welled up with tears. My sobs became more strident.
I felt him lean against the door and the noise stop as if it were just the two of us. I also heard his loud sigh. I hugged and fell on my knees.
“I don't know how to explain to you. Everything is too messy. A little more time. Give me a little more time to fix everything.” I heard the pleading in his voice. I felt his weakness behind the door.
As I listened to his voice, my face was drenched with tears. When am I going to learn to resist you? How long will I be resurrected by untruths when I enter this house? What's going on is challenging for me. It's only made more puzzling the way he acts. I tried to recall what happened earlier. I summoned the guts to confront him.
"What's the matter with Wayne? Why did you act as if you weren't you after hearing his name?" My tone becomes icy. I eventually became tired of his falsehoods —no. To all of them.
He didn't say anything, so I knew the answer right immediately. I'm certain Wayne has something to do with my entire life. He is more than simply a buddy to them. Everything grows more difficult as time passes. Aunt Joana, Mason, Craig, and Wayne are among those who have contributed to this puzzle. They're all a mystery to me.
I was closing my eyes as I rested against the back of the door, unbeknownst to me. When my phone rang, I jolted awake. I gently rose to gaze out the window. I awoke at midday. I would have answered the phone when a helper knocked on the door.
“Mrs. Thea, you must eat now. Sir Craig himself prepared the food.”
I didn’t answer because I looked at my phone first.
It's Megan.
"Mrs. Thea?" After calling me again, the maid knocked again.
"I'll eat later; please inform him that he may eat first. I'm still putting the finishing touches on something." I rose from my lying position on the floor and sat on the bed. Because I did not answer the phone, the call went unanswered. I was expecting Megan to call again, but I just saw her text message to me.
"How are you doing? Should we return to where we went yesterday?" That's what the message says, and an emoji wink is added. I'm also not sure what this woman wants at times.
I stood up and headed over to the cabinet containing the medications Aunt Joana had given me. I need to visit my doctor right away since I'm curious about the negative effects of these drugs as well as the consequences of not taking my regular capsule.
I responded to Megan. "We're not going there right now. Join me as I test the negative effects of the medication I'm taking and whether there are any risks to not taking my daily medications."
As I was about to go back to bed my eyes suddenly swiveled. I felt like something was trying to get out of my belly. I dashed to the bathroom and puked on the sink.
I vomited a lot, but all that came out was sputum. While I was still feeling awful, I wiped my mouth and glanced in the mirror. I assumed it was because I had slept on the floor the night before.
