Chapter 59
Thea’s Point of View
I still had a hard time getting out of the gate. Even the new car I bought for Cray and I seemed to have been scratched because of the paparazzi waiting for me outside. Fortunately, we got past and they didn’t chase anymore. I took Cray with me because there was a chance I wouldn’t get home right away because of so much media waiting. They are all thirsty for controversial talk.
When we arrived at a small agency office, there were no paparazzi. I don’t know if it’s because they didn’t see Craig come here or they got kicked out by the agency. Craig greeted us immediately. Since Cray was awake, he went with his father.
I took out my phone and directly went to my phone’s call log to show the last call to me. Craig and I looked at each other and motioned for me to give that to the officer. I don’t know what they’re doing because they plugged a cord in there and connected it to the system unit.
“Are you sure this man is the one you suspect? Do you have proof?” The bald officer man with a gigantic body was not looking at me. He was fiddling with the computer and typing. Some codes came out that I couldn’t understand.
“I think only 60%. 40% is still too complicated and I can’t explain, but since he’s the only one I know who has a quarrel with Craig, he’s the one I immediately thought of. And one more thing ... he’s good at computers.” After I said that I went behind the man who was looking at the codes.
Two tabs appear on the monitor. I can see the serial numbers along with the codes. On the other tab, only the IP number appears. The officer compares that. My hand quickly landed on my open mouth. My lips trembled as I held it. It was as if someone had sprayed ice on my head because they were so identical.
Craig approached us while Cray was still carried in his arms. I stared at him as he gazed at the monitor. His jaw tightened when he read it was Wayne who spread it. Why did Wayne do this?
Didn’t he say Craig was like his brother? That even if I ever compared myself to Craig back then, he would have chosen Craig.
Perhaps...? I considered the possibility that he did it because of my actions. I’d like to piece together what has occurred since he initially came to be—the first time I met him I lost my memories. Until he said “sorry,” but I rested my thoughts. The next step is to determine who the newscaster is referring to as the person who provided the video and accused Craig of forcing the woman.
Felicity is not a fool to provide this information to the media. Even though she was desperate, she knew how to think. She will destroy our lives and reputation, but not her own. Because I can’t see the woman’s face and there are no noises, the video can’t identify her.
I remembered the flash drive she had given me. I bought a brand new phone after my old one broke. I kept the flash drive hidden because I knew I’d need it someday. My heart skipped a beat at the prospect of it being the solution to the problem, but I was mistaken.
The file does not exist.
Why did I undervalue Wayne’s abilities? I yelled violently as I turned off the OTG flash drive and prepared to rush Wayne, but Craig stopped me. He shook his head as if to say, “I don’t need that any longer.” I’m concerned about the things he’s put up for himself. He came up with that name that didn’t ask help from his parents, but it was ruined in an instant.
I knew he was weak, but he refused to show it to us — to me. And because that’s his name, I know he regrets it more than I do. I’m also holding back since I don’t want to add to his worry.
Cray just stared at us. His gaze shifts from Craig to mine. They say that even if you don’t open your mouth, even if you don’t say words, your child will know how you feel.
Cray touched both of Craig’s cheeks, then he kissed him as if you thought he was big and mature. “Papa, don ‘mi sad.” He also touched Craig’s hair and stroked it. He didn’t do that to me. It’s only now that I’ve seen Cray’s side like this.
Suddenly, tears welled up in my eyes because of my son’s comfort with his daddy. Even if he doesn’t speak directly, you will be okay when he says that. Craig grinned and hugged him tightly. I walked over to them and hugged them as well. This is my long-held dream for Cray. To have a whole and happy family. I know we can do it; it is just a test and I believe we can handle all the problems that are yet to come.
The officer did not look at us and just continued what he was doing. I think we can leave now because we have finished what we are looking for. It was confirmed that it was Wayne. We said goodbye to the officer who helped us as we walked to our cars when Craig’s phone rang.
Because of what is happening, he cannot ignore it. He glanced at who was calling and we both wondered why it was Mason. This man couldn’t call just to ask about Craig’s condition, so I had a bad idea of the reason why he called.
“Hey, we need to cancel what we agreed on. I don’t want to fall to the ground with you.” Mason laughed out loud at their line—the reason I clench my fist. “That’s what I’m telling you, you’re too curious. Look what’s happening to you?”
I never let Craig listen to the bullshit my stepbrother would say. I snatched the phone from him and then put the speaker in my ear. He kept laughing; he thought maybe Craig was still the one he was talking to.
“Who let you do what you want?” My lips no longer move. They were trembling with rage. I just want to throw away the phone.
“Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. You’re too young, Thea. In the time you have lost, do you think you can still control the company?”
“Why? What do you think?” Not only is Craig his enemy now, so am I. I think he should be worried if he wants to get the company in my hands.
“It’s just sad to think, Thea, that I could bring down this company in one move. Everything you have worked for will come to nothing. What your parents have worked for will be destroyed. They will pick you and Craig up in the mud.”
After he said that, he turned off the call. Even though I didn’t want to be afraid of what he said, I knew in myself that I was threatened.
“What exactly is the secret you’re going to reveal, Mason?” I whispered to myself as Craig silently stared at me.
