When Our Kind Go Insane

Turning to Cynthia, I ask quietly as we rush down the hall, “Do you have any idea of how long he has been acting like this?”

She shakes her head and then cries out, “No, I was just in his room taking care of his clothes when suddenly he came at me. His eyes had turned red and his face stone cold. Then he started screaming at me to fetch you. I didn’t know what else to do.”

On the verge of tears, her voice trails off and then I see the thin line of tears cascade down her cheeks. I simply can’t have my people acting this way towards others in the castle. Now, this may be a problem if he indeed has gone insane.

When one of our kind loses their mind, we become unusually strong and quicker than we normally are. It makes it virtually impossible to deal with them after that and we almost aways are forced to kill them because of it. After all, when they go insane the only thing that satisfies them is eating our own kind. Because of this, I don’t relinquish the idea of finding him in this state of mind.

Still following her along the corridor, I raise my head up quickly when I hear someone howl at the top of their lungs. Scanning the area in front of us, I spy where it is coming from and then I swallow hard when I realize that Alpha Bernard has lost it. Stopping a few feet from him, I glare at him before launching headfirst into his torso.

I need to knock him down before anyone else gets hurt. Then perhaps calm him down before I must kill him. Too late, he already dodges my advances, running right into Omega Cynthia before grabbing her around the neck and chocking the life out of her in one swift movement. I can’t get to him before he breaks her neck because it happens so quickly. All I can do is watch the light leave her eyes.

When I do reach him, I swipe at him with my claws extended and extremely sharp. I just barely touch him because his movements are always one step ahead of mine. How do I fight this madman? Especially, when every time I try to connect, he evades me.

Barreling forward, I hit him finally straight on and shove him against the wall. By now the security has been alerted to the dangerous situation and they are coming to my aid. Now, all I can do is wait for the precise moment when I can strike the fatal blow and take him down for good.

Hearing the guards coming up behind me, I lean down to look in his eyes one last time. She was right, they are not like so many times before, but blood red this time. How could I have not caught it early when I saw him before turning in?

Was I so preoccupied with Arabella that I am becoming blind to everything and everyone around me? While my mind strays to disturbing thoughts, I forget what I am about to do, and he manages to free himself from underneath my weight. Lashing out at me, he tears a deep hole in my side and then runs off to another part of the castle with the guards closely behind.

Hearing him howl for one last time, I know that they have him cornered. Soon they will kill him and dispose of his body. But what caused his mental state to decline? I wonder.

This is always troubling, because one never knows what will trigger it or when it will happen. To some it never does, others when they are very young. I was once told that humans have the same problems and that if we could figure out what causes mental illness in us, perhaps we could help them as well.

Closing my eyes from the pain while using the wall for a support, I hear a familiar voice scream right before I look. I know that voice, it is Arabella. But why has she left her room when I specifically told her to stay put?

She runs up to me and places kisses all over my face, then hugs me tightly around the waist. Seeing my wound, she quickly releases her arms before saying, “I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you, I just needed to make sure you were alright.”

Gazing into her eyes, I temporarily forget about my wound and wrap my own arms around her tighter than she had mine. Seeing the concern makes me feel delighted to know that she at least cares if nothing else. I smile as I stare into her eyes, then I kiss her open my mouth before slipping my tongue inside.

She tastes so delicious, so absolutely divine that I get lost in this moment forever, that is until I hear one of the security guards come up behind me and state, “My king, we have taken care of him. I am sorry to bother you.” Janette lowers her eyes when she sees that I was kissing Arabella.

At one point in my life, I had almost taken her to be my mate. But we were not compatible, or at least I didn’t think anyways until I found out later that she was in love with me and wanted so desperately for me to feel the same way. Now, every time we see each other it becomes extremely uncomfortable, especially when I chose Arabella to be my mate and my Luna.

When she doesn’t leave immediately, I ask, “Is there anything else you need Janette?”

She quickly shakes her head and then looks like she is about to say something but doesn’t. Opening her mouth several times, she hesitates and then finally says, “No. There is nothing else.” Then she lowers her head and walks away quickly.

Arabella reaches her hands up to my neck and pulls me back down to kiss me before anyone else comes to bother us. Her sweet lips are so warm and when she kisses me this time, I feel her moan into my mouth and then something strange happens. A black spot in my vision increases from left to right and then I fall to the ground before I hear Arabella screaming, “Oh no. He is bleeding everywhere. Can someone help me?”

Feeling colder by the minute, it spreads across my body from my feet all the way up to my head. While this is happening, I realize that I am either passing out or I am dying.
