Chapter 6

Derek’s POV

.

I finished cleaning all the dishes in approx fifteen minutes. At the same time, I gave myself time to pull myself out of all the thoughts which appeared just because I was damn too close to her. I couldn’t understand, I had worked and stayed near her all her life but she had never behaved in this way. But now that we had spent time outside the packhouse a couple of times, I started feeling attracted to her?

‘What is all that about?’

‘There’s nothing wrong in feeling attracted to her.’, Rex pointed out.

‘This is wrong, Rex.’, I muttered in which he didn’t say anything.

“Come on now, Let’s go?”, She said, showing me the bottle of wine and two glasses and pulling me out of my thoughts. The two of us headed through to the living room. I didn’t know whether she was genuinely doing this or it was just a mere coincidence but her hands were touching mine, time to time. I felt a small shiver soar through my body and I made sure to hide my face because if she saw my eyes, maybe she would be able to see my desire. I sat down on the sofa, putting a small distance between us. She took the seat next to me, closing the distance which I was trying to maintain between us.

I tried to pour us both a glass of wine but she gently slapped on my hand and glared at me, which was a silent message that she wanted to do her work on her own. She then poured us both a glass of wine, handing it to me.

“Thank you.”, I smiled, taking a small sip and resting back on the sofa where I had slept last night.

“Now, Derek, tell me about your mate and your love story.”. She asked.

“Well, I met my mate when I went to the human’s world for some pack’s related work. That’s when I found her, in the human world. She was a human, so I patiently took my time to tell everything about me and did everything to win her heart and finally I was successful. The day I was planning to propose to her, she met with an accident and then I lost her forever.”, I said, feeling my heart break talking about her because I missed her. Even Rex whimpered in pain.

“I am so sorry.”

“It’s fine.”, I said. “That’s it about me. I told you that there is nothing much to know. I am the only child of my parents. You already know that my parents have been married for thirty four years, and still very much in love with each other.”, I smiled to myself, thinking about them.

“Yeah! I know. Even my parents are still in love with each other.”, She gushed. “And that’s what I want, love like that.”, She added with a smile.

“Same, maybe one day.”

I saw a sadness shoot across her eyes as she thought about it. I could tell that Adams and her marriage would be playing in her mind because just like everyone, even she would have probably thought that he was it for her. I reached over, placing my hand over her gently, making her look up at me.

“You will find it, Stacey. The one who will love you with your flaws. Adams must not have been the one for you after all.”

“I know, but it still hurts, you know?”, She said sadly.

“I know and it will get better in time.”

“Hope that time will come quicker. Anyway, enough about his topic. I am interested in knowing you.”, She quickly changed the topic.

“But there isn’t much to tell about me. You know my schedule because I spent most of my time with you.”, I shrugged. It was the truth because I really didn’t do much at all. After losing my mate, I started spending all my time at work.

“Why, thought? Why don’t you go out and have fun? Most of us lose ourselves in the alcohol after losing our mates but you...you didn’t change even a bit after losing your mate.”

“Well, that’s because we promised her that we would continue to live our life in the same way like I used to live earlier. And about the fun part, I used to have fun when I was teenager. Infact, I was the leader of the bad boys gang.”, I laughed, recalling those memories.

“I knew it. You are not as calm and innocent as you seem. Please do tell me more, what kind of bad boys you were, Mister Derek? I wish we could have studied in the same school but dad sent me to that school where only Alpha’s kids were allowed to study.”

I knew what she was referring to when she heard that I was the leader of the bad boys! I used to be a pain in the ass but that never included making fun of the weakling and hurting anyone.

“I,,,I partied a lot, drank a lot and also had a few one night stands. I put my parents through hell until I eventually grew up after finding my mate.”

“I knew you were not as decent as you look.”

“I used to be like that...but now...long gone.”

“I don’t think so. People may change along with time but their nature doesn’t change that easily. I think you still have that bad boy streak in you somewhere.”, She smirked. She was right about it, I did have but not everyone should know about it.

“Maybe but you will never see that side of me.”, I said and saw the expression of her face getting changed and her eyes light up a little.

“I don’t think so.”

I raised my brow at her but she didn’t seem to care. She had a devilish look in her eyes, I knew what she was thinking but that wasn’t going to happen.

“Then you are thinking unnecessarily.”

“We’ll see.”, She replied, her voice was slurrier than usual. Her body had started showing the effect of the wine and I swallowed hard, recalling her behavior when she was not in her senses. I decided to change the subject, talking about anything except the topic of mine. She now knew enough about me.

A few hours later!!

“Now, I should leave, Stacey. We have…”

“Shut up, Derek. You have at least said the same line nth times until now.”, She said, interrupting in between and then laughing. After three bottles of wine and a couple of bottles of beer, Stacey and I were both a little drunk, sharing our childhood memories, laughing, and not forgetting flirting with each other.

“You are an amazing person, Derek. I wonder why are you still single after your mate’s death? Are you planning to stay all your life alone?”

“Nope, it’s not like that. I am still single because neither I found my second chance mate, which is quite rare nor my wolf hasn't found the right chosen mate for him.”, I replied.

“Are you sure your wolf has checked his surroundings well?”, She said, biting on her lower lips as she looked at me.

‘Rex...no...no…!’, Before I could have told him that Stacey was just flirting with us. He snapped, taking control over my body. ‘Rex….listen to me! She is not the one.’

No reply!

Stacey’s lip-biting was getting to him, well, not just him. I found him inching closer to Stacey; our faces only inches apart. It was clear that even her wolf was fighting for control. Rex reached my hand up and caressed her cheek softly, watching a sign of reluctance, if any but instead he could have leaned toward her, she did. Rex immediately gave me control over my body. I knew deep down why he did so! So that I wouldn’t be able to scold him later for anything. I also knew I should pull away but I couldn’t. That’s when her lips fell against mine. I let out a small groan and found myself kissing her back. I gripped her hips, pulling her closer to me.

I smelt her arousal and guess what? My situation was no more different. I didn’t remember the last time, my length twitched in my jeans. I moaned into her lips, when she knowingly or unknowingly I was not sure, touched my length. I slid my tongue into her mouth and she let me, kissing me back the same way. The moment my hand reached her clothing, all of a sudden fear took over me, when I realized what the hell I was doing. I quickly pulled away from her.

“I’m sorry. I have to go now.”, I said in a panic tone. I tried to stand on my feet but she jumped on my lap, coming closer to me than she was before. Our breathing was heavy. Every part of my body was screaming that they wanted to stay here and didn’t want to go anywhere else.

“Please don’t go.”, She said breathlessly.

“I am sorry but I have to go.”, I said, pushing her away from me, also making sure that she didn’t fall down and rushing out of her penthouse.

“Derek...please come back”, I heard her screaming.

But I needed to get away from here. Away from Stacey.

Why did I do that?

Now working with her would be going to be awkward as heck.

Shit!

I honestly have no idea how I am going to face her tomorrow.

I grabbed a bottle of water and some painkillers that I would need in the morning. I changed my clothes and climbed on the bed. I soon found myself drifting off, a part of me hoping tonight was all a dream.
