Chapter 131 Holy Blood
Dimitri
Pythonissam Island
We ended up in a cemetery.
It didn't feel like a normal one though. This one had a different air around it. It was more...charged with energy. It was easy to understand that powerful witches had been buried under it. And for as far as I could see, there were only graves.
"What are we doing here?" Anna asked with uncertainty in her voice.
"We're going to burn the entire cemetery." Malone replied.
"B-but...our powers..." Anna looked conflicted.
Malone raised a brow, "which book have you read that says we gain powers from our ancestors?"
Anna opened her mouth but shut it again.
"Exactly. None." He spoke. "I used to believe it too until I did my research. We do not gain powers from our ancestors, child. We are powerful in our own selves. We hold our power, no one else. We used to burn our ancestors earlier just like other supernaturals. But a lot has changed in the last two hundred years. All because of Yolanda and her prophesy." His eyes were fierce as he looked at the vast expanse of graves in front of us.
"Yolanda?" Anna asked. "The Head of the Witch High Council?"
Malone nodded. "This is all her fault. We need to stop her and restore the balance of life in Jivan. No soul should come back to the land of the living after it has crossed over to the other side."
"What do we need to do?" Natalia asked.
"Help us burn the graves." He replied and extended his hand. Two torches appeared in his hand and he handed one to both of us. He muttered a chant under his breath before the torches lit up on fire.
"Let's get to work then." Anna said and stepped forward, her hands in the air, facing the graves. She had just started muttering a chant when dark clouds suddenly formed over our heads and it started raining. Heavily.
"Its the ancestors." Malone said. "You need do keep chanting and keep your resolve firm child."
He stepped forward and started chanting as well. After saying it for over ten times, a little fire appeared over one grave before the rain water extinguished it.
"This is stupid." I gritted my teeth and kicked the headstone, making it fall on the wet soil. Fucking bitch that hurt. Because of the fucking heel in my leg I had forgotten about. I plucked it out and tossed it aside. "What the hell are we going to do now?"
"Keep trying till we do what we have set our minds to." Natalia answered. "Try using the torches. Maybe their magic is linked or something."
I lowered my still burning torch to the grave and the second the flames touched the soil, it covered the entire grave so quick that I had to jump back to avoid getting burned. And it burned out again just as quickly, leaving behind black soil and ashes in its wake.
"Fuck yes!" Natalia grinned and began torching the grave in front of her but the rain water wiped her fire out.
"What the hell?" She growled.
"Your fire is not special enough." I smirked as I moved on to the next grave and burned it.
It caught fire so quick I had to jump back quickly again. Fuck, I need to be careful.
"This doesn't make sense." Anna muttered as I walked next to the other grave and neared the torch to it but this time, it didn't light on fire. What the hell?
"Dimitri. Prince Dimitri Volkov, Hand of Queen Avalyn." Malone looked at me thoughtfully.
"It's a little late for formalities, I think." I pushed back my wet hair, taking them off my forehead.
"Just how close are you to King Nikolai?" He asked me, clearly distracted from the task at hand.
"Is this relevant here?" Nat scowled. She was right, we needed to find a solution and get to work. Or else a lot of innocent witches are going to lose their loves.
"Very." Malone replied without taking his eyes off me.
"Um...very. We talk about everything. We've been together since I was eight. He's my brother, his mother was like my mother."
"You didn't share the same mother?" He inquired. Not a lot of people knew we weren't really brothers by blood.
They knew I wasn't Adrik's son but people always assumed for some reason that we had the same mother. Most probably because I called Viktoria Mom.
"No. He's my brother by choice." I replied.
"Well there goes my theory," he turned his head as he looked in deep thought again.
"What theory?" Anna asked.
"The book said holy fire. Holy. And according to the prophesy...King Nikolai...well it is assumed he is a part of it."
"What?" I demanded. "What prophesy?"
"Nothing that matters right now." Malone shook his head, "I thought that you shared blood with him. The first two graves that lit up had your blood spilt on it first. Only then, they burned." It was the blood from wound caused by Natalia's heel. "But that's clearly not the case."
"Oh," Anna nodded.
"I share blood with Avalyn." I whispered. "I gave her a blood oath. We exchanged blood."
Malone's eyes widened at that. "Queen Avalyn?"
I nodded.
"Oh dear God!" He whispered under his breath.
"What?" Nat asked.
Malone shook his head. "Dimitri, you need to bleed on each and every grave and only then we will be able to light them up on fire. Even a drop should be enough."
My eyes swept across the vast expanse of cemetery in front of us. I couldn't even see where it ends. But lives needed to be saved. And I'll generate blood faster than I'll dry up if I only spill a drop per grave. "Let's get to it them."
I extended my claws and scratched my wrist open.
Malone had a bowl ready in his hand. I put my wrist over it and pressed with other hand so that I bled in it faster. It could a couple of minutes to fill it but once we were done, we paired up.
Malone and Anna went towards the left and Nat and I took the right side.
We developed a system to speed things up. I jogged over the graves, making sure to bleed on each and every one of them and Nat jogged after me, lighting up the graves I bled on with the torch.
We were much faster and efficient like this. And whenever Anna used up the blood, she came for a refill before going back on her way.
We had covered half of the cemetery when Natalia's speed started slowing down.
"You okay?" I asked in worry.
"Yes," she gritted, "let's keep going and finish this."
I nodded and we got to work. But not even five minutes later, her speed started decreasing and her breaths became laboured. And then her smell hit my nose. I could smell it in spite of the rain water and the mud's smell and fast winds, which meant it was bad. She was in pain.
Fucking hell, her hour's up.
"You need to leave." I stopped, looking away from her.
"It's starting again." Her voice trembled, like she was in terrible pain.
She always engaged in the habit of downplaying her sufferings so look just as strong as the males. She usually was, but now was not the time to be strong.
"What the fuck Nat, do you want a repeat of what happened?" I hissed. "Go find Malone and tell him to send you home."
"I can do—"
"Fucking hell. Don't make it worse for both of us!" I whirled around to face the stubborn woman. "I know you can do anything you want and that you're strong. But for fucks sake, right now you need to be with your mate instead of a mate-less male."
She gritted her teeth before she turned around and jogged away. I decided to keep an eye on her just in case. She liked pain but I'm sure it's not this kind. And I know she has a big capacity for it but I also know that she must be hurting a lot for her to show even this much in front of me. She wasn't even a kilometre away when she stumbled before falling on the ground.
I waited for her to pick herself up. Which she did but she was walking at a snail's pace.
Fucking hell. I wasn't going near her.
I shifted into my wolf, ran at full speed to Malone and simply motioned him to get on. He seemed to realise what had happened and he promptly climbed on. I ran back towards Natalia until her smell hit my nose. I stopped and getting my message, Malone got off and walked towards her.
She stumbled on her feet and Malone quickly opened up a portal in front of her and she fell into it.
He looked at me, "I sent her to Queen Avalyn. She is safe and at the palace now."
A breath of relief left me and I let out a small bark, showing him gratitude for doing this for us and for giving me the news. He nodded, "let’s get to work now."
I shifted back to my human form and worked on my own while the witches worked together. Our speed had decreased but it was better like this.
It took us another two hours before we finished burning the entire cemetery.
I was still reeling from the loss of blood. I was healing, sure, but the loss was still felt. I was tired and a little dizzy now. Thank Goddess we're done now. My wound kept healing so I had to scratch open a larger wound which caused me to lose more than just a new drops. If I had to gone longer than this, at the same speed, I would've been at a risk of fainting. I had easily lost over two to three litres in the span of three hours.
"We're finally done. We saved all the witches." Anna let out a breath of relief when we met at the end.
I smiled. "We still need to go back. The war isn't over."
"We are not done, children." Malone shook his head grimly.
"We're not?" Anna and I echoed.
He shook his head. "The main witch cemetery is on an island near Bellehaven. It is four times the size of this and we need to burn it too if we want to make a real difference."
I'm a dead man.
Avalyn
Imporia
"Oh my god." I heard a distant voice that broke me out of my sleep. My eyes fluttered open and I saw Max staring at me, wide eyed.
Eliyah was standing behind him, he too was shell shocked, looking at me with wide eyes.
My eyes snapped to Nat and I saw that she covered in something white and was sleeping peacefully. I rubbed my eyes to clear my vision and saw that the white thing were feathers. Beautiful, long feathers that were attached to wing.
Wing.
I turned my head, looking to the source and realised that the wing was attached to me. Correction, two wings were attached to me. Magnificent, long white wings with a golden undertone.
How is this possible?
Was this what caused the pain? It has to be.
The wings were huge. They moved like I could move my hands. I stretched them and they hit the wall on one side and the other side expanded up to over seven feet. The part connected to my back was golden and then it slowly shaded into a pure white colour. They looked...heavenly.
My hands reached out to touch them. Soft. So soft. They were the softest thing I had touched in my entire life.
A whimper broke me out of my awe. It was Natalia, she looked like her pain was growing again. The clamps were still on and so was the vibrating dildo. But she slept peacefully through it, almost like nothing was bothering her.
My wings were covering her, I realised. I covered her with my wing again and she quietened down again. I let out a soft sigh.
"Avalyn." Max called, still staring at me and my wings, not able to take his eyes off. "What the fuck?"
"I don't know," I whispered, "I was in a lot of pain one second and then I passed out. I woke up in front of you."
"You're not a werewolf anymore."
I nodded. "I'm a faye now." I looked at my wings. They must be a faye thing. Like werewolves had wolves, fayes had wings. "And a vampire."
"What? How?"
My heart ached in pain at the thought of Papa. But I didn't have time to mourn right now. My energy was back and I felt better than I have ever felt. And Nik needed me. I needed to go help him win the war. I couldn't hear what was going on because the rooms were sound proof but I knew it was bad.
Max was cut up in multiple places and he looked worn out. He had streaks of blood all over his body and his t-shirt as missing, he was wearing only a pair of shorts. "Long story," I simply replied. "How bad is it outside, Max?"
A dark shadow crossed his eye, "pretty bad." Which means it is extremely terrible. "I barely made it back."
"I must go." Nat was in trusted hands now and since I was a hundred percent healthy, I could go.
"Avalyn," Nat called out weakly. I turned to look at her in worry.
"They-they've got a cure for the witches. Hold off killing them for as long as possible." I knew they would come through.
"Thank you," I breathed. Thousands of life will be saved now. She smiled through her blurry eyes when I kissed her forehead.
I walked towards the balcony and stretched my wings, ready to fly.
"Do you even know how to fly?" Max was right behind me.
"I'll learn," I replied. I've seen birds do it, it can't be that hard.
I flapped my wings and the air around me started moving. I continued flapping and slowly, I began rising higher and higher. I looked at Max once I was a couple of feet off the floor, "take care of Nat and don't worry about the war. I will take care of everything."
And then I turned around and took off.
